Navigating misinformation in the news: building media literacy and critical thinking in your classroom

Thursday June 26th 4:00pm - 4:40pm (BST)

Suitable for teachers of 10-16-year-olds

The Department of Education for England’s Curriculum Review Interim Report was published in March, 2025. It was made clear that in order to address the opportunities and challenges created by our fast-changing world there is an urgent demand for media literacy and critical thinking.

Building media literacy requires developing the critical thinking and communication skills to evaluate the news we’re exposed to, but also a solid knowledge base of the topics being addressed. Whether that’s from a social media influencer, a leading politician or a friend in the playground, how can teachers support children to question what they’re told but also know when to trust information? Join this webinar to find out how.

The webinar will:

  • Give practical tips for building media literacy and tackling misinformation
  • Share examples of how creative problem-solving, can be applied to real-world issues
  • Provide advice for challenging incorrect information in the classroom
  • Give suggestions for how to ensure skills are rooted in specific knowledge
