How Has Representation and Diversity Changed

My topic is representation and diversity. Representation is the portrayal of someone or something in a particular way and diversity is the range of different backgrounds. Representation and diversity are important to me because I believe everyone should feel included and when there is no representation or diversity people will feel excluded. Being represented can also cause someone to feel confident and empowered in themselves and where they come from. I also feel like having only one race or ethnicity shown all the time would get repetitive and dull which will cause many industries to be uninteresting. Many people of color, different races, ethnicity, and people who are not usually represented are affected by this topic. The people who usually face stereotypes in movies or films are also affected by this. There is a problem in some industries where the cast is diverse but their culture is represented incorrectly. A solution to this could be to hire a director and cast of the same race or ethnicity played so they can confirm and make the details as accurate as possible. Gina Prince-Bythewood states " Yet representation on both sides of the camera is still inadequate for many, including people of color, women, and individuals." Gina Prince-Bythewood is a director and screenwriter. Gina is mainly saying that there is not a lot of representation on camera and off camera. I agree with this statement but I feel like the industries are getting better at it. I think that diversity and representation have been more common recently. To some extent, I believe some companies may be diverse because it is a more popular thing than it use to be. Also, it may be because companies that are not diverse may be looked at badly by society so to keep their reputation they became diverse. Companies that are diverse are 35% more likely to outperform other companies so that might be a reason more companies are diverse. Diversity is good but companies should not be diverse just because everyone else is doing it. Diversity and representation are important and it is a good thing that companies and industries can do.
