There are thousands of articles available on the net which tell you that there is a shortage of doctors in the world. They tell you that the medical profession has a high scope and you can earn a lot in it. But the exact opposite is happening here.
Metropolitan cities are actually overflowing with doctors and the worst part is that the government is opening even more medical colleges which will result in creating even more doctors and soon there would be a huge population of doctors in the urban areas causing doctors to get less number of patients every day, and also causing them to earn less. So is the news lying about the shortages of doctors? No, though urban areas are overflowing with doctors, rural areas are having a huge shortage of doctors. And because doctors in the rural areas are paid so less, and they don’t have a good quality of life, they don’t want to live there. In my country (India) 70% of the population lives in rural areas while only 3% of the doctor population lives there.
One way to decrease the shortage of doctors in rural areas is by increasing their regular facilities. It takes at least 7 years for a person to become a doctor, and it is unfair to ask them to go to a rural area where they will live in houses made of bamboo sticks, and they will get very less money. So, by increasing the quality of life in rural areas, more and more doctors will choose to live there and hence soon there would be an equal distribution of doctors in all the areas.
