  • Yes, that happened 12 years ago and now in 2022, a few days before the World Cup that will be held in Qatar

You asked me why the decision to host the event in Qatar was so controversial? Because Qatar is a very beautiful Arab country, and international sports matches rarely take place in Arab countries It also separates us from the World Cup match by a few and very limited days, and everyone is excited about it and is waiting for the time for the match with enthusiasm, as many countries participated in the global match that is located in Qatar Other than that, the State of Qatar is a very beautiful and wonderful country that has put golden touches so that the spectators, the public and the audience can enjoy watching the match
And when you asked me when the event ends what will be its impact?
My friend, the match will only end, but it will not end in our hearts. Its impact will remain forever engraved in history, newspapers and magazines. It will be a very great pride for the State of Qatar, and the winners will be very happy that they won the match in a beautiful Arab country. Watch them from all over the world and its impact is everything. I do not know what everything is. But of course everything, my friend

    1. Hi Calm_Starfish - it's good to hear that you're looking forward to the World Cup. You flag that people will be watching Qatar from all over the world. What do you think that the impact of this attention will be for Qatar and the Qatari people?

      1. My opinion on the impact of the World Cup on Qatar and others is positive, as they will be very happy while playing the favorite sport in an Arab country, and Qatar will be proud of what it is doing for others.

    2. You mentioned it will remain forever engraved in history, newspapers and magazines. Are there any other things that the world cup will leave behind?

      1. Yes, it will leave a lot, a lot, a lot. It will leave a very joyful impact, news engraved forever, and a lot of things, not just newspapers and magazines. 💜

  • From my point of view, I think that this World Cup benefits the country itself, a great economic and political benefit, as we have seen that all air traffic is now on Qatar, and this brings benefits to Qatar as well, or to the entire Arab world, for example Hosting Qatar this year spreads Arab culture around the world, as I said in my previous comments, and that an important event like this only happens every 4 years has helped Qatar spread Arab culture as well.

    1. outgoing_perspective interesting comment! How do you think the World Cup will help the Arab culture to spread?

      1. This is simple. Hanging banners to get to know the Arabic language and Arab culture. If the fans stay in Qatar, they should learn its customs and language at least, and because they will stay in Qatar for a long time, they will get to know the culture more. and integrate them more

      2. How do you think the World Cup will help Arab culture to spread? I also read about the World Cup that Qatar aims to prove the importance of the Qatari cultural heritage and its openness to its Gulf, Arab and Islamic surroundings.
It also established a tent in which the inhabitants of the desert in Qatar or the rest of the Gulf countries used to live, which is a trend chosen by Qatar, to confirm its connection to its deep-rooted human history, which will be embodied in the most important sporting event known to the Arab region throughout history.

    2. I agree with you, the World Cup benefits the country itself, just as the organization of the World Cup or other sports tournaments brings economic benefits to the host country, such as: providing job opportunities, attracting tourism, and promoting local brands, so sport is part of a package of other things. Those that influence the making of countries’ strategies, and have a role in strengthening the status of countries in the world, and those that host major events such as the World Cup get very great benefits, most notably: that the whole world cares about them and their societies, through the media and political presence, and there is an opportunity for It has to introduce itself, its capabilities, capabilities, cadres and energies.

    3. I agree with you, the World Cup benefits the country itself, just as the organization of the World Cup or other sports tournaments brings economic benefits to the host country, such as: providing job opportunities, attracting tourism, and promoting local brands, so sport is part of a package of other things. Those that influence the making of countries' strategies, and have a role in strengthening the status of countries in the world, and those that host major events such as the World Cup get very great benefits, most notably: that the whole world cares about them and their societies, through the media and political presence, and there is an opportunity for It has to introduce itself, its capabilities, capabilities, cadres and energies.

      1. You are right, every country seeks its own interests

  • And when you asked me when the event ends what will be its impact?
My friend, the match will only end, but it will not end in our hearts. Its impact will remain forever engraved in history, newspapers and magazines. It will be a very great pride for the State of Qatar
and international sports matches rarely take place in Arab countries It also separates us from the World Cup match by a few and very limited days, and everyone is excited about it and is waiting for the time for the match with enthusiasm, as many countries

    1. Interesting comment! I agree the World Cup gives some pride to Qatar as the first Arab country to host this big event, and I am sure everyone is super excited about it! However, apart from the positive impacts, is there any negative legacy that you can think of after the event? For example, how shall people utilise the new build stadiums and hotels?

  • The legacy of the world cup happening Quatar is that many people have sacrificed their lives due to this event. We should really think about the people who are working in inhumane conditions and not just the fact that we are going to have a wonderful time enjoying our team play. Although I love watching the world cup, ( I support England ) I think it shouldn't even happen as people could loose their live to the cost of our pleasure. Quatar is the wrong place for the world cup to happen.

    1. I like your point of view! Apart from the inhumane working conditions for facilitating the World Cup, is there any other reason that makes you think Quatar is the wrong place for hosting?

    2. Hi Fantastic_Gazelle - a number of people share your view that the World Cup should not happen in Qatar. If workers have already died in the construction of the stadiums, would moving or cancelling the World Cup still have a benefit?

    3. I agree because people shouldn’t lose their lives just because of a set of football matches that only last for 28 days. Also a lot of pollution must have been created in building all of the new buildings, and the temperature in Quatar is extremely hot. If people stay there for a long time, could it effect their health?

    4. I'm not sure about this because... Something criticized me in your words, except that Qatar is not the right place for the Olympics to take place, why?! Rather, the place of Qatar is a strategic place, and they put this match in Qatar specifically because Qatar has a lot of money to spend on this thing and it has many resources. For example, if we come to your thinking, is it permissible for them to put the match in countries that do not even have to feed their people or get rid of unemployment in Its country, and also the reason that Qatar has a lot of foreigners mixed with Arabs, so if a foreign player comes to play, he will not feel the extent of alienation in this country because all he has to do is play and who will encourage him if he is Arabs or foreigners.

    5. Qatar hosting the World Cup is not a bad thing, as some have said that it is very hot. We are in the month of November, which is a month of beautiful weather.
Controversy also occurred about it being a Muslim country. Since the beginning of the World Cup to date, nearly 500 people have converted to Islam
This is a good thing and motivates people to convert to Islam.
And for people to work in inhumane conditions, on the contrary, Qatar has taken care of them and so on because Qatar is a country with a high economy, so it pays workers very adequate wages, and everyone travels to these countries to obtain the salaries of workers
There are many topics that have been argued about, but it was the opposite of what they argued about

    6. In your opinion what should Qatar have done differently?

  • I think the workers is not in good working condition and there is a lot of sun it pollutes a lot

    1. Can you find any examples or reports about the working conditions?

  • I believe that any country should be allowed to host the World Cup if it has the economic and logistical capabilities. Organizing such a global event requires advanced infrastructure and multiple services. In the event that teams differ over the hosting venue, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) intervenes and a vote is held to choose the venue. It is appropriate to hold the World Cup, and I believe that FIFA takes into account the availability of basic services and good infrastructure when choosing a place to organize this global event. The good faith of the world in the completion of this football event is fine, as it is the first Arab, Islamic and Middle Eastern country to organize this global event.

    1. I strongly agree that every country should have the right to host the World Cup if their conditions are met. It seems there is more controversial for Qatar to host the event, can you think of some reasons why people against the host, from both the football and outside of football perspectives?

    2. Hi Sensible_Impression - you refer to a requirement for any country hosting the World Cup to have the logistical capability of hosting such a large event. Could people argue that Qatar does not have the necessary infrastructure to support all of the visiting fans?

    3. Hi @sensible_impressions. Great insight. Do you think the issues of the mistreatment of migrant workers and views on LGBTQ+ should lead to some repercussions for Quatar?

      1. Hi @Rowan. This is a very good question. I would like to voice my opinion on this. I think there should be repercussions for Qatar because these are serious issues.
The issue of the mistreatment of migrant workers is an abuse of the basic human rights of people and if even the workers in Qatar are being treated unfairly then I really wonder how much more visitors from all over the world coming to watch the world cup. As this is a very big global event, the safety of spectators from over the world should be of utmost priority and the matter should not be taken lightly. In my honest opinion, this matter should not be overlooked although I do not feel the opportunity to host the event should be taken away from them because Qatar hosting the world cup not only affects them it affects other Arab nations too as it helps to improve their representation in big events globally but at least there should at least be some repercussions for their actions. They should either be fined or given any other form of deterrent. This should ensure justice for the workers that have been mistreated and will discourage Qatar from doing something of that sort again.

The issue of LGBTQ+ is a serious issue. In my honest opinion, Qatar should not let biased views cloud its judgment. The major aim of the event is to watch the World cup and that should be the main focus. This is a global event so Qatar should have expected that of course lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, queers, and others would be attending. In my honest opinion, I feel they should have thought about that before accepting to host the event. I feel they should exercise tolerance for the different people in the world and not be biased towards some people.

        1. Hi @amazing_computers - brilliant insight! I completely agree that there should be some sort of fine etc as this reflect incredibly badly on FIFA and overshadows the joy of the world cup and people of different nations coming together. It is also a violation of human rights and promotes such a bad image.

As for your view on LGBTQ+ I also completely agree. Although I understand and respect that people can have differing opinions on the matter, being LGBTQ+ is not a choice and as such people from the community should feel welcomed at any event, let alone one as big as the world cup. I think the world cup is an event for everyone and as such we should celebrate all people in the world, no matter their gender, ethnicity, sexuality, age etc.

  • All countries world can organize and host the world cup under certain conditions. The director general of the events doesen't apply it, he exploit the workers, (the workers have very small houses, they work in the heat without security protection and they are badly paid), he restrict certain freedom like how to dressand like sexuality... and there are suspicions of corruption foe the qatar elction. For me with such actions Qatar should not host and organize the World Cup.

  • I think the legacy of big events, like the World Cup is the event in Qatar was so controversial?

  • The fifa world cup happend 12 years ago in Qatar whith lost of improvements to the country!

It was kind of unfair when the fifa world cup came out because people who built the luxurious hotel for people who wanted to watch the football match get treated badly and stay in poor hotels. Also it's unfair that people have to pay hundreds of billions of pounds just to see a football match.

  • The holding of the World Cup in the State of Qatar is likely to be controversial because it is very rare for such a major event to be held in an Arab country. The State of Qatar has also made a great effort to equip all stadiums with abundant services so that the fans can watch the matches with comfort, and they have equipped training facilities and areas designated for fans. Knowing that the stadiums are of the latest technology and the temperature can be controlled. Otherwise, there will be great enthusiasm and enjoyment of watching the matches. We are waiting for the World Cup, which will be held on Sunday 11/20/2022. Good luck everyone

    1. I'm not sure you've explained why it might be controversial- can you give more detail about why some people are against it being held there.

  • The video is about the world cup in Qatar . It talks about the dangerous situations at work and the injustices egainst the LGBTQ+ community .

  • i heard that the employers are mistreat .

    1. Please develop more your answer?

  • the legacy of big events is pollution because there too many around the world don't have the money to pay the hotel in qatar so they will go to neighbourg countries and take the plane which is a means of transport which pollutes too muchh

  • Hello everyone! I want to talk about major sporting events. I think major sporting events can have many different legacies. Economic, touristic, social, environmental and cultural etc. are just a few of the legacies that have left their mark. Such major sporting events can benefit host countries as they can have world-class sports facilities and improved infrastructure. Also, thanks to these major sporting events, the host countries can become more rich in terms of tourism. Major sporting events can help encourage people, youth and children to participate in sports. It can provide an opportunity for host countries to show themselves internationally. It can also accelerate the needed urban transformation and improve society. These are just some of the legacies I've described, and I'm sure there are many more.

    1. Hi @articulate_bird, great list of legacies! What do you think the most important legacy for a country holding a big sporting event is?

      1. I believe that big sport events can leave important legacies in terms of image and branding to host countries.

  • I think people are right not to agree on the subject of Qatar because the situations are not good

    1. Can you give examples for your opinion?

  • I think the LGBT+ community is not very well received because there are injustices

    1. What kinds of injustices?

  • Today, we attended a video conference with three British journalist. We were not alone, several classes from different countries and different ages participated with us in the conference.

We talk about the World Cup 2022 in the Qatar and the positive and negative point of this event.
The two main problems is :
The Qatar not support the comunity LGBT because the Qatar is a muslim country (In islam this is not authorized). But this not a reason for not respect this community. And the second problem is the poor working condition of football stadium workers. There are working with little security, in the dirt and in the heat for long periods of time. They are paid very little or not at all.

  • The country that will host these tournaments and activities will benefit greatly
Where there will be about 500,000 visitors in the country on the busiest day of the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East and the Arab region, and FIFA estimates that it is possible that about 40 million people will seek to visit Qatar after the end of the tournament.
    Which will lead to:
    1. These tournaments attract tourists, which increases the economy (Qatar expects the event to add $17 billion to its economy.)
    2. Openness between cultures that are exchanged in that place (fans from all countries perform)
    Third
    3. Contributing to transforming Qatar into a global community and providing a higher standard of living.
    4. Enhancing the tourism field
    5. Increasing the possibility of hosting the tournament again (the more creativity in the arrangements and atmosphere, the better

    1. Thanks for this well thought out response. These are all positive legacies of the event, can you see any potential negative legacies for Qatar aware_leaves?

      1. There are many risks, including:
        1. Qatar is facing increasing
pressure regarding its hosting of the tournament..
2.The current political crisis has witnessed, or at least raised the possibility of, the emergence of a Qatari opposition movement.
3.This means that there is an increased risk for parties working according to contracts or seeking to conclude contracts to develop the infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup. ...
        4. There is a risk of non-fulfillment of financial dues and the lack of a realistic ability to implement the terms of any legal contracts.

5.In addition, any cancellation of Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup will likely be sudden and will put the contracting companies (with Qatar) in a precarious situation that may not be resolved easily.

    2. i also think so because when the world cup started there will be a lot of visitor in the country of Qater which they will host the event of the world cup beginning in the country of Qater .And after the world cup there will be a lot of guest and tourist in the country of Qatar which will help the government establish good relationships with other countrys.

    3. I agree completely with you as it will beneficial to Qatar. In addition to the financial earnings, it will give Qatar this small country the athletic standing ,it will make Qatar enter the athletic history as on of the countries who has the honour to host The world Cup.

  • the State of Qatar is a very beautiful and wonderful country that has put golden touches so that the spectators, the public and the audience can enjoy watching the match
But of course everything, my friendWhere there will be about 500,000 visitors in the country on the busiest day of the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East and the Arab region, and FIFA estimates that it is possible that about 40 million people will seek to visit Qatar after the end of the tournament.

  • I think the workers are in very, very bad conditions. there is too much egenerhie used and a lot of noise. The stadiums will also pollute.

  • Big events, like anything in the world has benefits, but also major drawbacks.
Outside of the World Cup, the Olympic games is the most prestigious sporting event globally and is similar in the bidding process. The Olympics has done phenomenal things for cities such as London in terms of tourism, but also at huge costs. In 2012, thousands of people were relocated from their homes in order to build venues to host the major event. Alongside this, crime rates rocketed, and litter became a big issue. London was placed under major pressure and ultimately the event proved amazing for visitors but devastating for locals. Although due to the bidding cost and extortionate prices of construction, the host country often loses money, the games leave a legacy. A legacy that is remembered. A long-term attraction to the place due to the memories and experiences attached. Therefore, there's a definite and powerful legacy, but likely at the cost of those with residency in the host city.

    1. I'm not sure about this because you can't say the same about other big events like even the ongoing world cup. I think the fault was from the planning committee of the Olympics because in the bid that was submitted to host such events was the ability to accommodate large number of tourists and structural facilities that will be used to host such an event. It's so sad that instead of London gaining, they lost due to improper planning. a country like Qatar hosting this ongoing world cup has had a major boost in their economy because of things like tourism, aviation costs because they estimated a total number of 1,300 daily flights in and out of Qatar and this will give a major boost to the economy. Personally, I think the legacy of such big events are majorly positive because not only the host country benefits but everyone benefits because it brings diversity together as one.
It gives the country recognition and gives it the chances of hosting another big event another time. The citizens of a host country's standard of living will greatly improve because of the economic boost from such events. What do you think?

  • world cups are very important for international sports

    1. Can you explain why?

    2. I agree because... the world cup only happens every 4 years

      COME ON ENGLAND

      1. Are World Cups good for society?

  • The would cup in 2018 was set in Russia when France won the would cup finales beat Croatia in the finals they might win again this year

    1. Do you think Russia should have been allowed to host?

  • The world cup is held in Qatar this year and i believe it shouldn't because of their rules! I understand it is a beautiful place but maybe we should think about what other people think about this before they make it a final decision.

  • I think Qatar should not be held there because when fifa held a bid to see whose country would be holding it Qatar has a lot of money so of course they would win the bid plus there spending. 300$bilion dollars but on the other hand it is the first Arab country holding the event. But they are not allowing LGBTQ people in the country and the weather is extremly bad. They do not pay there workeres enof to feed their family. So please agree with me

    1. There is no ban on LGBTQ+ people going to the World Cup, but Qatar does discriminate against this community, so they may feel worried about going.

    2. Excuse me, I do not agree with you that the climate of Qatar is bad.. Absolutely not. If you look at the map, Qatar is located in the Middle East, west of the continent of Asia, on the Arabian Peninsula, meaning that the temperatures are moderate from November through May during the events of the World Cup.
As for banning LGBTQ people, it is a host country with its own laws and customs.. However, I do not think that you will go there except through a sports ticket that only concerns sports. If you want to relax or enjoy your time, choose any of the other countries that are allowed in alcohol or LGBTQ .
Qatar is a country of a purely Islamic character, so abide by its laws.
      Thank you

  • I personally think that the legacy that this world cup is going to leave is that this world cup is going to bring the world together. People from all parts of the world are going to be there from all over the continents, either as spectators or as the footballers themselves. The world is going to be at Qatar. it is going to be like the sugar that draws ants together.

  • I am very happy that the World Cup is happening in Qatar. I totally agree with it being a host, because it is rare that an Arab country is chosen for a world event. It's a good opportunity to discover a new culture and a new way of life. Qatar is a beautiful country. I'm pretty sure that many tourists will come to attend this great sporting event which takes place every four years.
Furthermore, Qatar will be able to take this opportunity to develop its economy and maybe improve its relations with certain countries. The hotels and the various infrastructures that will be built can be reused in the future. I think the other Arab countries are also happy that this is happening in Qatar because they can finally be represented. Despite the various controversies and accusations against Qatar, the most important thing is the smooth running of the World Cup.

  • : I think people are right to disagree about Qatar because the situations are not good, for example the workers are paid very badly, then the lgbt+ community is not very well received because of their sexuality and the way he shows himself (dresses). so that's why qatar is not the best place to organize the world cup.

    1. I would like to tell you that your words may be correct and it may be wrong because
Your words are correct in terms of: Qatar is in a bad situation and so are the workers!
However, when Qatar becomes the country in which the World Cup takes place and includes tourists from all over the world, then Qatar will be the winner because it will earn billions of money, which will improve its economic situation. It is possible to improve the salaries of employees through the World Cup🇧🇭

  • Perhaps the idea of holding the World Cup in Qatar is very good for many reasons, including that Qatar is a small Arab country, which makes it easy for domestic flights to quickly reach the places designated for training players before the matches, as well as Qatar’s strategic location in relation to the world, which enables visitors from all over the world to easily Reaching it and watching the matches, as well as staying there during the World Cup activities, and I consider the occurrence of the World Cup in an Arab country as a quantum leap because it is rare for that to happen. Also, the World Cup brings about a kind of exchange of cultures, because the world gathers at one point, so sports can have an exchange of cultures from one Arab country to another and vice versa.

  • When we talk about the World Cup, the Western world will immediately come to our minds, but 2022 was the year of a change of course when Qatar decided to host the World Cup in its country... The impact will not be momentary on the State of Qatar, but rather forever, as the number of tourists will increase and the world will learn more about Qatar's civilization And on the Qatari culture. And that the World Cup be held in an Arab country will help spread unity between the Arab and Western world, and a great economic recovery will occur in the State of Qatar, which will have an impact on the citizens.

  • Qatar deservedly deserved all respect for sponsoring the 2022 World Cup
We are all proud of the World Cup in Qatar. Stadiums equipped at the highest level for the first time in the history of the World Cup.. This is just enough for us to be proud of the Arab World Cup in Qatar. In Qatar there are prophetic hadiths in every corner about Islam, doing good and loving good for others.
Changing all the muezzins in mosques, bringing people whose voice is beautiful, and connecting headphones in every stadium so that the players can hear the call to prayer. An English football official said that it was the best thing he had heard in his life.
Distributing books in public languages on the history of Arabs and Muslims and introducing the story of Islam

They present the best version of the World Cup, and they showed their potential in it to the world

Our situation as Arabs after this event will change 180 degrees and show us to the world who we are and we made the best version in the history of the World Cup with the testimony of Cristiano Ronaldo.

32 countries, with about 2 billion people, will watch the image of Arabs and Muslims that Qatar will convey to themOne last dance, one goal
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in Qatar
To return to the World Cup in the fifth and final participation 🏆

  • In a precedent that is the first of its kind in the world, an Arab country is adhering to its Arabism, developing and civilized, to which everyone witnesses its progress and its architectural, technical and technological development, in addition to that the football game is one of the most important games that the world unanimously agrees on with its importance, strength and the beauty of the spirit of competition in it
Qatar was able to successfully organize the 2022 World Cup tournaments, based on the pictures and reports coming from the State of Qatar.
Qatar's World Cup stadiums are equipped with this wonderful and attractive shape.
Indeed, sister Qatar deserves to host the World Cup and other tournaments, the Asian Cup and the Arab Cup, with merit and without competition
One of the most important technologies used by Qatar is that it initially equipped the infrastructure of the country and established itself as an independent country and for its people. For itself as an independent country and for its people, it established buildings, towers, tunnels, bridges, existing and floating hotels, facilitated the movement of travelers and developed towers for residents, as Qatar's preparations for the World Cup may have a tourism and productive impact on the economic level and the development of trade, work and luxury in all its forms
Indeed, the stadiums of Qatar are beautiful, wonderful and attractive. It will be the greatest World Cup in the history of football in all respects, stadiums, reception, luxury, cameras, and even at the national level. We are about to start the best World Cup in an Arab country, Qatar 🇶🇦 Good luck, God willing

  • We always used to say Planet Japan
Currently in our Arab world there is a planet called the State of Qatar
God willing, the Arab countries will remain to regain their strength and glories
It is a matter of pride for the entire world to choose an Arab country to prepare for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. It is interesting and joyful at the same time to equip all stadiums and stadiums with a religious touch and an Islamic character mixed with the art of architecture, construction and modern decorations. Experts from all international, Arab and foreign countries were used to come up with this huge event in a way that the whole world is proud of. Qatari creativity in terms of urbanization, structure, splendor, splendor, beauty, art and creativity readiness, capabilities, and elements of innovation and respect
Qatar and the World Cup is a historic achievement
Exactly 10 years ago, the State of Qatar signed the lottery to win the right to host the FIFA World Cup 2022 .. Where the State of Qatar directly started implementing the necessary infrastructure projects to host an impressive historical version of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and harnessed all its capabilities as a host country for the tournament to accelerate The wheel of development and the achievement of the development goals of the state..and leaving a permanent legacy for Qatar and the Arab world..the World Cup 2022 is a great achievement to be held in an Arab country, because it is a great and unusual event at all, and this is something that makes us all feel proud as Arabs. Organizing the tournament in the State of Qatar is an opportunity for the whole world to learn about the cultural, intellectual, heritage and historical aspects of Qatar and the Arab countries.

    1. Qatar hosting the world cup marks a new beginning for the world. I was having a discussion with one of my very good friends who is passionate about football on this topic and here is what she said:
"This is very good for Arab nations and I think this marks a new beginning for the world as we are learning to embrace other people from different walks of life and big plans such as this. The world is changing for good. I pray the next world cup will be hosted by an African country too for a change."
I feel this world cup topic is linked to the topic Black Panther: Representation and Diversity because the world cup is now being hosted by diverse countries now its rabian the next might be African. Who knows? This is a practical example of what we have been learning on the hub. This is good for the world. It marks a positive change.

    2. I agree completely with you because Qatar with its good financial status managed to prepare well for the World Cup competition as you have mentioned many of them.So I think Qatar is the best representative of arab and Muslim country.
Thanks Qatar for your efforts to make it happen in this successfully way

      1. Can you give an example of how you think Qatar prepared well for the World Cup?

    3. I agree with you every word. Holding such a major sporting event in the State of Qatar makes us, as Arabs, feel very proud. It was impossible to hold this World Cup, but Qatar surprised us and provided all amenities for tourists. Qatar deserves appreciation and respect because it made a wonderful effort and introduced people to the Islamic religion and Arab culture. Qatar is an example to follow .

  • I think an Arab country holds and hosts the world cup matches on their lands is pride for all arabs in all the world.
Through my following the news I'm surprised from the amount of preparation for this event which proves that Qatar deserves this choice, can you imagine the cost price exceeded 200 billion dollars this reflects that Qatar deserves, because it prepares the stadiums ,hotels, roads ,airports and markets in high qualities.
The chance of this choice to host the world cup will not always come So Qatar will be a goal for all tourists to to know and recognize this country and this will achieve great financial returns and will be a famous country in the middle east or all over the world
From 20 of November to 18 December Qatar will be the most dynamic country in the world as imagine that 1,500,000 visitor in this time, Qatar will be the most important country in the world
I hope from this great country to reflect morals and cultures of Arab societies.

  • I think the legacy will remain with a bad reputation about the LGBTQ community but will still stand a brilliant world cup.

  • The World Cup will strengthen Qatar's position on the world tourism map. A huge increase in the number of visitors to Qatar. A bout 3 billion people watch the World Cup. A bout 40million people may seek to visit Qatar after the tournament is over. It's more than just a sporting event, but it's a major marketing launching pad for Qatar in the long and long future.

  • Sport nourishes the souls before it is the achievement of trophies. Sport motivates the players and makes their spirit one, filled with a sense of cooperation.
Also, there are fans of sports, especially football
They come from all over the world to watch and encourage, which leads to an increase in the number of tourists in the countries of the world and an economic recovery occurs, but every team or fan must have a spirit of competition so that friendships and love abound in all parts of the world. It is football

  • The first tournament will be held in the coming cold days due to the very high temperature of Qatar in the summer. There are questions, why Qatar and not any other country?
Most say that it bought votes in order to benefit it politically, economically, and in all respects.
But the Arabs supported Qatar on social networking sites and issued the hashtag # I am_ an Arab _and I _support _Qatar.
What is happening may be distortion from the West. It is the right of any Arab country to participate in the World Cup or any competitions or challenges. The West speaks in the name of democracy and freedom, but when it comes to the Arabs, protests, distortions, and opposition campaigns arise.
Qatar has always provided the appropriate atmosphere for the World Cup, and hosting others from all over the world, so why not take place in this great event?

    1. Thanks for joining the discussion @glorious_lake. This World Cup has made differences in laws, societies and world views between different countries very clear. Do you think hosting a big sporting event like this changes the host country? In what ways?

      1. The occurrence of a global event in our country means that there will be millions of visitors coming from different countries of the world, in addition to many millions who will get to know our country better through print media, radio and television networks, and from social media publications that will be issued by fans. And the participating teams and journalists present in our land, and hosting the World Cup in our country means turning it into a global community and providing a higher standard of living, as well as the size of our country’s economy and making it a commercial and tourist center in the region, in addition to the prosperity of strong tourism revenues during the World Cup and beyond, which will strengthen the position of our country on the world tourism map.

  • Hosting the World Cup is essential to achieving ambition. Qatar dazzled the whole world with the distinctive designs of the stadiums that will host the tournament and the facilities available for the comfort of the fans who will attend the match. The countdown to the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup matches has begun, with the special edition that will dazzle everyone, and everyone expects a distinguished organization ❤

  • It's a too bad that for the first time an Arab country is organizing the World Cup, there are so munch controversies about the LGBTQ community and the working conditions of the builders

  • Qatar's legacy will be great and clear after the World Cup in many areas.
First, as Qatar is the first Arab country to host the championship, this will add a change in the future way of thinking, as the percentage of participation of the countries of the Arab world in these activities will become higher, which gives an opportunity for the population and countries to mix, participate, support, exchange cultures and enjoy at the same time.
Secondly, according to what I have read, Qatar is seeking to transfer itself from the periphery to the center through the media. From my point of view, it is a point in Qatar's favor, as many media networks and groups talk about the World Cup, which is the most important event, and this will attract a good reputation for Qatar, which will earn it an economy. Aali from behind social media and ,As Qatar News reported, the World Cup event could add $2.2 billion in tourism revenues.
But on the other hand, there are some negative returns on Qatar, including the emergence of many differences between peoples and the spread of hatred among some due to the different cultures and fans. Also, from my own point of view, I see that it is possible for some countries to aspire to the results that Qatar will obtain after the end of the World Cup. It raises competition in reverse between countries

    1. As you say the World Cup is revealing big differences between people and societies @inventive_conclusion. Do you think events like this in the end can ever bring people of opposing views together? In what ways could hosting an event like this change the host country?

  • It led to the spread of the state, the development of the state and the development of infrastructure, and the World Cup enhances Qatar's position on the global travel and tourism map, and achieves economic, social and cultural diversity in the country and works to show that the number of visitors to Qatar has reached

  • The FIFA World Cup is the most important football competition held under the supervision of the International Federation of Football Associations. The World Cup has been held every four years since 1930, except for the 1942 and 1946 tournaments, which were canceled due to World War II.
The World Cup: It is an international football tournament that brings together the finalists of all the teams in the world, and one player gets the title.
Qatar News Agency recently stated that direct financial revenues from the World Cup are expected to reach $2.2 billion, and long-term economic revenues from 2022 to 2035 are expected to reach $2.7 billion, as strong tourism revenues are expected to flourish during the World Cup and beyond. Then.
The World Cup has greatly affected the State of Qatar in terms of politics, economic prosperity and material revenues for the state

  • What is the legacy of big events like the World Cup?!
The World Cup takes place every 4 years, and this year it was decided to be in Qatar. Being the first Arab country to host the World Cup, this event is controversial.
After research, I concluded that Qatar paid nearly $200 billion to improve its stadiums, and this is a huge number that the state can use to benefit from in other aspects.
I believe that the World Cup will benefit Qatar this year from several aspects, including:
First: the economic field. The tickets bought by people who want to watch the World Cup bring economic benefits to the country, and Qatar expects this event to add $17 billion to its economy.
Second: the political field, the state becomes of great importance among the important countries of the world
Third: the tourism field, after the end of the World Cup, it is possible for tourists to come to Qatar from many countries
Fourth: We know that people from all over the world will come to Qatar to attend the World Cup, as this increases the culture in Qatar
Fifth: If the World Cup is held this year, Qatar will be able to host the World Cup again

    1. Do you think hosting a big sporting event like this can change the society and politics of the host country too? In what ways?

      1. Yes, I think it has a great influence on the country hosting it, politically it becomes a great country and of great importance in the world, and tourists come to it from all over the world, and not only that, tourists can change with the culture or religion of the country

  • The 2022 FIFA World Cup provides an exceptional occasion for Qatar to present itself on the world stage, especially as its name will henceforth be associated with this most watched sporting event on the planet. The 2022 World Cup will indeed be a unique experience for fans and football lovers, as the eight stadiums are close to each other and to the city centre. Qatar found in hosting the World Cup the golden opportunity to develop its basic infrastructure and strengthen its main economic sectors. Through the events it organizes on the sidelines of the tournament, it hopes to showcase the latest transportation systems that it has built, and to provide all residents and visitors with rich recreational, artistic and cultural activities that reflect the Arab and Qatari hospitality.

  • With the countdown to the World Cup, Qatar hosted the 2022 World Cup because it will lead to a major sporting shift for Qatar. First: it will increase Qatar's investment to billions of dollars. Sports will recover and Qatar will thus be at the forefront of the countries that have a good infrastructure. Second: the services sector will develop greatly through tourism, hotel, communications and transportation services that will diversify income sources. Third: In terms of human development, it will provide Qatari youth with an opportunity to train and acquire skills in facilities management and how to organize international events. Fourth of the other gains is the convergence of world cultures and experiences in one spot, which is the greatest achievement of the Gulf, specifically Qatar. Fourth, the most significant achievement in its use of alternative and environmentally friendly energy sources, such as solar energy, will further develop Qatar's energy supply, which is second only to oil. When Qatar won the 2022 World Cup, the win was not only athletic, but also economic, social and cultural for the Middle East in general, as it is the first time in 90 years that the World Cup will be held in an Arab country. The World Cup tournament held in Qatar also has a great advantage, as its geographical location allows many to visit the World Cup. All success for the State of Qatar.

  • Since submitting the hosting file,Qater has sought to be Qater's vision for organizing an Arabe championship in the first place, and through its organization, planning and implementation, has worked to portray Arab and Qateri culture with its human, cultural and knowledge richness."
The tournament will reflect in all its details the culture and nature of the State of Qater, from the amazing experience that awaits the fans to the smallest details,in the design of the stadiums, each of which reflects the spirit of the Arab and Qateri heritage.

  • Selecting (Qatar) as the scene of the World Cup events was a dream not only for the Qataris, but also for the Arab Middle East
I see that Qatar's budget for the success of the World Cup was approximately more than 220 billion dollars, and this is a really huge number. But if we talk about this great legacy There is a tangible material legacy represented, for example, in the design of infrastructure, roads, modern clubs, economic performance and its return to the country and the beneficiaries later, and there is a moral and emotional legacy associated with bringing most countries of the world with their entire culture and languages and merging them with their culture, customs and traditions.

  • I have mixed feelings for this question

On one side, I know that the World Cup taking place in Quatar will be like a passage for them to many opportunities but won’t it be too much stress, making all these new buildings, stations, hotels? Of course, the little country will become extremely famous and if the situation is handled well, there is a chance that people will trust Qatar again and let more things take place there, but lots of money will be used, which can be used for other things that actually help people, not entertain them. For example, things like Climate Change or cancer research. There are so many things that need help in this this world. However , they ARE going to recycle 60 percent of the waste they get from the World Cup. This will leave a good legacy and when they make all those new buildings to fit in the 1 and a half million visitors, they will leave a legacy of hardworking people.

  • Holding a big event like the world cup is itself a matter not only for a certain country but also for the regional community to boast about in the times to come. The legacy of such an event becomes manifold if the title is won by the host country. If Qatar wins the world cup, then not only Qatar but all Arab communities will feel the pride to be the rulers of the soccer world.

  • Winning to host the 2022World Cup is not only sporting, but also economic ally, socially and culturally through the convergence of world cultures in one place, which is an achievement for Qatar, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Arab countries and the Middle East in general, in which this occasion has become obsolete for the first time after ninety years since the launch of the first tournament For the World Cup in Uruguay

  • The world cup is the most famous sport event in the world . It is an international sport competition supervised by FIFA the tournament of world cup is held every four years by a hosting country. It started from 1930 until now . In sush a world tournament 32 Internatinal team of football take part Millions of fans follow world cup competition via TV or in stadiums Actually. Brazil is the country that won the most cup of world cup followed by ltally. Qatar was selected to be the host of the 2022 world cup, Qatar spared no efforts in preparing world cup events like building stadiums and developing infrastructures.
In conclusion, world cup is not just a simple sport event but it is also a culture the brings nations closer and spreads peace and sportsmanship in the whole world.

  • The legacy of big events, like the World Cup
Is negativ In the sense that It will have a lot of pollution Of various handling
But positive in the sense that Tourists coming from all over the world
Outside the stadium they visit the country And that will Enrich business
And of course it will discover the history and culture of Qatar
Meaning forgotten Qatar will be written in the history of the world cup

    1. Well done for giving a balanced view!

    2. I agree with you. Qatar hosting the world cup is both positive and negative for the country.

But on the other hand, in my opinion, it can also have effects on other countries too. It is also positive for other countries in the sense that Arab nations are now represented by Qatar which shows that diversity is being included in picking countries to host a big event like this so African nations or other nations will also start hoping for their own turn to host the world cup. It will help to promote diversity and equal representation in the world which is important just like we learned in the topic, Black Panther: Representation and Diversity.

      1. I agree with you because having Qatar to host this year's world cup has showed equality between Europe and other continents in terms of big events hosting opportunity and in this way the idea of world cup being for all is well represented in such a diversity. It has also exposed the beauty and rich gifts in Arab countries like Qatar as well as shown capability because Qatar was able to put in place all the needed it infrastructure to host the event and this means millions were spent.

  • The world's greatest event has begun to spread its glow. It is the World Cup that takes place every 4 years. After years of effort, the Middle East had the honor to be this year in the State of Qatar.
That small country that defied a lot and made great efforts to show the World Cup in its most beautiful image, so it organized huge stadiums and built the infrastructure for the country and decorated the streets and displayed the culture of an entire nation.
Some may say that Qatar has spent many billions for this event, but what everyone is ignorant of is the return that will accrue to Qatar economically.
Humanly, equality and respect for all emerged, away from discrimination according to religion, sex or color.
Let us all work so that the Qatar World Cup appears in the best way
    Thank you, Qatar

  • Legacy is a tradition handed down from one generation to another because of the importance. It makes us see the bigger picture and gives room for achieving a thriving economic stability in the country beyond and over the years, notable progress can been made in other sectors like, finance, human health and social work. Looking at the tourism and hospitality sector it would generate revenue for the country since individuals from all over would be coming so it would be remembered as a milestone moment in the history of the nation and organizing body.

  • Hosting a major sporting event like the world cup, can boost a nation’s economy by attracting tourists to various wonders of the country, initiating important infrastructure projects and showcasing countries and cities as good places to do business . Sport is a powerful tool to bridge societal divides for example the most recent Winter Olympics showcased the ability of sport to mend differences when athletes from North and South Korea marched under a common flag.

  • Hosting a world cup in itself is a matter of great pride unless it comes at the cost of huge prices (and not literally money).

More than 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar during the construction process of the tournament, but is it actually worth it? There are many abandoned Olympic and World Cup venues across the globe like in Athens and Rio de Janeiro whose conditions are pitiful. I feel that the Qatari infrastructure may also end up like this.

Qatar may be constructing hotels and inns, but the truth is that the tourism will boost only for a short period of time. It will receive 1.2 million visitors for the World Cup (for one month) in contrast to the annual 611 thousand visitors. Is it actually expected that the tourism would be so high for the future as well, isn't it only a waste of people's money?

Environment is being neglected in this situation. The tournament will emit 3.6 million tons of carbon dioxide gas , lead to deforestation (land required for buildings) and use huge supplies of fuel in flights and other transportation.

Hence, Qatar World Cup may have numerous advantages but it comes with its own share of shortcomings.

    1. Well done for using numbers to support your points - however, please can you also share where you found these numbers so that other Topical Talkers can decide whether they are trustworthy sources or not.

      1. Sure Katie@Topical Talk
Here are the links I referred to-
        https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2021/feb/23/revealed-migrant-worker-deaths-qatar-fifa-world-cup-2022

        https://dohanews.co/qatar-to-attract-over-1-2-million-visitors-for-fifa-world-cup-2022/

        https://www.dw.com/en/is-the-qatar-fifa-world-cup-really-carbon-neutral/a-63753961

    2. I say that the matter will be the same in any country, where if the matter is in a European country, the same amount of carbon dioxide will be produced, the same amount of fuel will be burned, and the stadium that you built will end up deserted after the end of the league, unless you use it for something Another, for example, conducted national patrols in the country or made it a tourist attraction

      1. Good points, receptive_outcome. Are there any places where the World Cup legacy has been positive--where the stadiums have been successfully put into use for further events or tourism?

  • What will benefit the country that will host these tournaments and activities greatly, as there will be thousands of visitors in the country, and FIFA estimates that about 3 billion people will watch the World Cup, and it is possible that about 40 million people will seek to visit Qatar after the end of the tournament, which will lead to: 1 . Increases Qatar's economy (Qatar expects that Qatar's GDP will provide an income opportunity of $4 billion from tourist spending in the Middle East 2. Transforming World Cup facilities into new communities, schools and hospitals. 3. Launching tourism flows. 4. Promoting the World Cup Qatar's Center on World Tourism Maps 5. Qatar's continued investment in modernizing its facilities is also likely to expand its transportation, trade and economic initiatives.

  • From my point of view
The legacy of World Cup event is addressing several aspects , not only related to the football as the most important sport being practiced but also the cultural exchange and the reflection of country hospitality and ability to manage the peaceful life in the existence of multi origin peaople with different traditions and cultures , also giving a good message and presentation for the country and local people in the hosting country traditions

  • Hosting the World Cup in our country contributes to overcoming common stereotypes about society, and thus the world will see us and hear us like never before. It is an appropriate opportunity to change stereotyped impressions, and in the end someone will win the World Cup, and our country will win everything else.

  • Choosing Qatar to participate in the World Cup may not be a wrong decision, as some say
Qatar is an Arab country, which makes it a great pride for the Arab countries, and the World Cup event is a big and huge event because it is a global event that includes all parts of the world, and that makes Qatar talk among the tongues of foreign countries, and that spreads Arab culture to the foreign world
And that such an event takes place every 4 years, this is a wonderful representative for the Arab world!
As for Qatar, the World Cup is due to it with enormous political and material gains, which improves its economic and living conditions.

  • I think that Qatar should not organize this World Cup because the air conditioning already pollutes and the planes are very useful to go to Qatar and we have seen that the supporters take the hotel at neihghbord country because it is too much expensive in qatar and the take plane which pollutes a lot.

    1. Hi Freespirited_King - there has been a number of news stories of people staying in neighbouring countries such as UAE and attending the World Cup. The next World Cup in 2026 is across Canada, US and Mexico. Would this be good for the environment? Could you give a reason why people may think it's a good idea for the tournament to be split?

  • It is a great honor for Qatar to be the first Arab country to host the World Cup and one of the reasons for it to be the host country for it this year is that it contains environmentally friendly sports stadiums and that Qatar is a country open to foreign labor, as 30 thousand foreign workers have been contracted to build the stadiums, most of them from Bangladesh And India, Nepal and the Philippines, and that made Qatar care about its own infrastructure, and the evidence for that is that it built 7 stadiums to host the World Cup and 100 hotels.

  • In my classroom we spoke about the legacy of big events and the advantages. I then realized how the world cup itself could be positively used to influence all the topics we have spoken about on the student hub. It can help boost diversity and representation by incorporating a percentage of all races into the teams when they play, if people become aware of this the turn out would be huge and we could use the opportunity of the huge turn out to enlighten people. The world cup as a legacy of big events could help the COP27 I know it sounds far-fetched but this year maybe instead of using a pitch or a stadium we could just use a normal field and instead of all the fireworks that are harmful to the environment and wildlife we could just sing in together and march in in order to avoid unnecessary pollution. It could help fast fashion the most, instead of making new jersey's we could reuse one from last season and the athletes could even give out their old ones for little money, that will be used to pay fast fashion workers. Even the protest in Iran can be influenced they could speak out for the women by using slogans like ''MY BODY, MYCHOICE''. They could help raise awareness on the uses of internet and the importance of opinion and expression. The world cup could help raise space awareness; they could let people know that space is not a dumping ground, and that space could make a potential earth for us one day. It could dedicate a part of its income to underpaid doctors and even help create better facilities for the doctors in underdeveloped areas, so that those doctors could feel appreciated. It could have a positive effect on even the global food crisis, after the events for the day, they could hold a meet and eat where they meet athletes and eat too, or the food given to the spectators at the game could free. The general elections could be affected too, the advantages of other people's opinion could be highlighted during a session of the game. They could make young people political by allowing young people to lead they could allow kids plan out their strategy and they could then enlighten those kids on politics and even involve their own children. This is just a possibility from the world cup so imagine if every big legacy even does this, the outcome will be unbelievable don't you think.

    1. Hi Accurate_Wombat - sport has long battled with questions of whether there should be quotas for different criteria such as nationality or race! What could be the impact of requiring a certain proportion of a team to meet diversity requirements?

      1. As I listed above the difference when diversity is used could help to solve some issues. It could be used as a representative and diversity stunt. It can help us to understand why we have some issues.

  • The main motive behind organising any big event is the social, political and economic development of a nation or a country. It also aids in strengthing the regional and global relationships. Any big event also provides the opportunities to create positive social change across the region and around the world. Further, any big event like 'FIFA WORLD CUP' in an orthodox Muslim nation like Qatar , of course will induce changes in people's lives through reading, mentorship, skill building and sharing life lessons of renowed soccer stalwarts. Football will be one of the biggest tool of social inclusion of Qatar in the world. Infact, the legacy behind any big event is to bring prosperity in country and leaving behind a better place for the next generation to flourish and dwell .

    1. Hi Independent_Donkey - you say that hosting global events strengthens regional and global relationships. Do you think this is the case with the World Cup in Qatar? Could you say why?

  • The country that hosts the World Cup, so I think that this thing will benefit the host country. Imagine with me how many tourists will come to watch the match and the exorbitant amount of tickets. When the country hosts tourists, it knows its interest. Something if we cling to each other and make our hands one, and I expect that this great event will bring about a change in the Arab world, and I suggest that if the World Cup is held in two countries, meaning half the matches are in one country, for example, in Asia and the other, for example, in Africa, then this will make a big difference in the world that will change it and make it one hand

    1. The next world cup is being held across North America, Canada and Mexico!

  • I believe that it's a good idea to organisé thé World cup in Quatar because there are more touristes but there may bé a virus spread (COVID).

    1. forceful_violin can you please explain why you say that it is a good idea that there may be a risk of the spread of covid? Thanks

  • The legacy of such events like World Cup is Fame and pride.
I say these because such events are not held everyday so if your country gets the chance of hosting such them it all leads to those two things. Fame because the country gets know by everyone and is spoken about by everyone just like now everyone who talks about WC talks about Qatar as the host.
And pride because the country hosts a lot of people and these include famous athletes like Messi Ronaldo and others, politians and more important people which may make me as a citizen of that country feel proud of my country.

  • I think people are right to disagree about Qatar because the situations are not good, for example the workers are paid very badly, then the lgbt+ community is not very well received because of their sexuality and the way he shows himself (dresses). So that's why qatar is not the best place to organize the world cup.

  • That decision sparked allegations that FIFA officials had been bribed to award the hosting of the World Cup to Qatar, although an independent investigation commissioned by FIFA found no compelling evidence of this and Qatar denied the allegations.

  • It has become difficult to determine the exact cost of the World Cup, which will start in Qatar on Sunday, November 20. However, what is certain is that the World Cup in Qatar will be the most expensive since the start of the World Cup tournaments, amid estimates that the cost may be equal to what was spent on twenty-one previous tournaments combined.
According to estimates by a group of experts, as well as press reports, the cost of the World Cup in Qatar will exceed the threshold of two hundred billion dollars, and it may be much more than this figure.
It is worth noting that the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 was considered the most expensive, while the World Cup in Russia in 2018 ranked second, as the cost of the two tournaments together reached less than $ 15 billion.
In this, Dan Plumley, a football finance expert and lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, said that when Qatar was awarded the right to host the World Cup in 2010, initial estimates indicated that the potential cost would reach $65 billion.

    1. Hi Amicable_Buffalo - thanks for flagging the cost of hosting the World Cup. Do you think it was a worthwhile use of resources?

      1. It is expected that the World Cup organized by the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and hosted by Qatar over a period of 29 days will attract more than 1.7 million visitors to Doha, as there will be about 500 thousand visitors in the country on the busiest day in the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East and the Arab region. And FIFA estimates that it is possible that about 40 million people will seek to visit Qatar after the end of the tournament. If Qatar hopes for him from the World Cup ..
Qatar won the match and won the World Cup. According to what I mentioned in my comment, the cost of the cup is about two hundred billion dollars, and it may be much more than this number. It would be nice, but if you lose, it will be a huge loss
And about what Qatar hopes for from the World Cup, Mahmoud - who worked as a consultant to the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program and the International Union for Conservation of Nature - says that oil and gas exports are the pillar of Qatar's economy, which has the third largest natural gas reserves in the world, and is one of the largest exporting countries. for oil.

  • I see the world as an avenue for people to interact with the rest of the world . during the world cup people can see and appreciate different races and cultures.it can also be an avenue to taste foreign (Qatar) dishes and also go for site seeing. people can learn to appreciate Qatar as a different but beautiful place ,through the world cup.

  • I think organizing this event is a right for every country. So, Qatar just does its right. Then, the issue of is it coast this preparation or not?
In my point of view, the main theme is not materialistic side. It matches emotionally.
Qatar represents Arabs with their generouse, hospitality and good mannars. These ideas leave a mark forever. It is not a match for a short time. It is a historical legacy for Qatar and all Arabs.

  • Hosting the World Cup in Qatar will affect it positively because it will increase its economic situation and Qatar will become an important place for tourists and visitors to visit and other positives. Thank you for the World Cup because it helped unite Arabs and the West through the World Cup. This incident helped spread the Islamic call and steadfastness on its principles. The opening of the World Cup in Qatar was one of the most beautiful international openings. Qatar spent huge sums to prepare the place to host millions of people from all over the world.

  • One of the famous cup of football known as world cup has been held in Arab nation in Qatar for the first time. The question has been raised about the legacy of an event in planning process.Yes its important to consider the legacy of an event as it is played on 8 stadiums of Qatar.
For the visitors and football lovers who are going to stadium for the live match ,Qatar had made many beautiful infrastructures and buildings. But are these structures made for the time of 28 days world cup only? I have listened that many workers and LGBTQ community people are forced to work for their development to show in this time for other nations. But it's not the right way .According to my point of view many nations like Qatar, brazil, England had spend dollars of huge amount for the sport. But are these structures going to attract the visitors only??Are they going to be wasted after the time??The transport system will not work properly as now in the time of soccer? These types of Brian triggering questions are arises but it has helped the beautiful country Qatar to grow it's economy and their natural beauty. The beautiful state of Qatar an Arab nation which has the golden chance to renown through the world. When the country has opportunity to host the FIFA all the suitable conditions about temperature, geography also should be considered.
The match is going interesting for each and every football lovers and it will end in our love and sympathy for Qatar to host it in many beautiful stadiums.I hope these stadiums will not go as a waste after FIFA world cup is finished. It is very interesting to watch the match held in Arab nations.

  • From my point of view, I think Qatar shouldn't hold the world cup because while they were building all of the stadiums (which cost 200 billion pounds ) lots of immigrants who were building the stadiums died from poor work conditions. Qatar also known about having banned any support to the LGBTQ+community so if anyone who is supporting the LGBTQ+community could get potentially arrested prosecuted or killed . Qatar's football team also would have gotten automatic participation in the World Cup.

  • I think that Qatar should not hold the World Cup because they have spent millions of dollars on new stadiums when it is not necessary and Qatar are not really a football into country.

  • i do not understand football but i know that some pepole do and thay love it but i know that it is a very inpornent event

    1. Do you think it's good or bad for society?

  • I think it is bad that people died making the stadiums. But Qatar has bad records for human right and how they treat LGTBQ+ so county's like England who normally play with a rainbow strip across the arm can't do that because they might get arrested by Qatar police and wont be able to play because of there laws but we don't have power to change there laws because it is not are county so we can't do anything to it I'm not trying to say we should tell them to change there laws instead just help them.

    1. Players wearing the rainbow armbands would not be arrested, but they were told they could be fined by FIFA for breaking a rule around making a political statement.

      1. Oh I thought that would happen to the players I got confused

  • I think Qatar should do the world cup because its the first time the middle east is hosting the world cup

  • I think that a country like Brazil or England or France should host the World Cup.

    1. Can you explain why?

  • What is the legacy of big events, like the World Cup?
The legacy of big events is winning the World Cup, creating success, achieving excellence and goals, playing excellent football for us, worthy of our country, and adding respect for the referee and the players.

    1. Why is showing respect to referees important?

  • I think this is unfair for people in Qatar that are making the stadiums because they are not getting paid that much and that people are dying because of how much money they get. Also, that some people don't want to see the match because of sexism and racism because of their rules.

    1. Can you explain what you mean by racism rules?

      1. I am not too sure because I have just tried searching why but nothing came up. I think that the racism rules would be about why no one should bully anyone because of their race/the colour of their skin. Although, I know that homophobia and sexism have been really common in Qatar during the world cup and that it is really serious.

  • If any region, like the Arab world, has been kept away from hosting a mega event, then now is the time to share the love with every member of the global village. This is because no one should feel deprived of being recognized as an esteemed member of the global community. Everyone has the right to boast about being a reason for an event. Cricket was invented by the English and Australians, but today it is the game of the world. Pakistan, India, the West Indies, and many other countries have proved that they are equal custodians of cricket. Moreover, new members like Afghanistan are being welcomed and trained by the cricket giants. So, every nation has the right to become a champion and gather pride for it.

  • Personally I don’t mind bout the politics since fifa are there to play football and if we wanted to change it it’s way way way to late

  • This World Cup is going to be the last one for messi ronaldo buffon and mahrez and also ibrahimavic

  • Hello this is a comment on the negative impacts of the World Cup :

The last time I talked about the positive impacts of this World Cup. Today I'm going to talk of the negatives impacts of this event.
First, the construction of the stadium caused a lot of problems. For example, the enormous pollution of the air with the planes, the tourists, the public transportation.
And this consumes a lot of energy. The reduction of the space dedicated to nature to build the stadiums (concrete, size of the stadiums...). There is the noise pollution too with the differently machines and that disturbs the local community. While speaking of he local community, the qatari builders and immigrants buldiers are working in very
bad conditions. We count more of 6000 dead and this is problematic.

  • I thought that Qatar will benefits this event because it's economic benefit and from this event Qatar will earn many billions dollars and it will get back the billions dollars that spent in building the stadium.

But from my point of view, I think Qatar it's not the Appropriate country for this event , As an Islamic country, and this event received many negative opinions from several people , they say that Qatar spent many money and instead of that Qatar can help the homeless children and orphans and reduce poverty and famine as long as they have this wealth.

    1. Thank you, dazzling_tangerine, for your insightful comment.

You are correct that Qatar spent a lot on the men's world cup that could have spent on poverty.

Wealther countries - both Islamic and not Islamic - do spend money on sports, culture, pure scientific research (such as on subatomic particles and outer space) and so on. That money could be used on dealing with - and preventing poverty, famine, pandemics etc.

Should they continue to do so? Can countries do some and some? How should they allocate their spending?

  • Football is the most watched sport, and it is a great honor for it to be hosted in an Arabian country for the very first time. I feel that the legacy of big events are the hosts, the fans and the competitors. The hosts of the world cup play a very big role in the playing of the sport. Qatar is a country filled with oil and natural gas and they have invested in it and are the richest in the world. They used their money to build seven stadiums and refurbished one in four years which is a very hectic job. They have built one of the best stadiums in the world. The fans also play a big role in making the competitors perform better. Competitors are encouraged by their supporters to play better. The competitors who are the people representing their countries in the sport are the talents that are being watched. The show their skills and passion for the sport. Also, I feel that this world cup is a very special one because the artist of the theme songs came from three different continents which are America (Trinidad Cardona), Africa (Davido) and Asia (Aisha). This shows racial equality.

    1. What do you think about the social and political legacy of events like this @receptive_editor? What is the impact when people from all over the world visit a country for the first time, or when people like us have discussions like this?

      1. I feel that the social legacy of events of the is to support and strengthen global unity. Football is a game of equality where different nations from different continents compete to win the sport. This promotes global unity and brings racial equality. It also encourages and brings opportunity for people to show their talent by representing their countries. The political legacies are the infrastructures built in order for it to hold. The government spent a lot of money and it also created employment opportunities for the people.

  • In my opinion, hosting big events is really beneficial for example Qatar it is going to benefit in a way that it is strengthening international relations. In a sense that when people from all over the world come and meet for a common reason that is sports they get to interact and become friends, some might even get new international business partners and they develop their businesses to international.
The country is being exposed and people are getting to know about its beauty and some might get the urge to come back and tour entirely and that's a benefit to the nation itself.
The country is gaining prestige. It is so prestigious to host such a big event.

  • When I have read that Qatar spent nearly 200 billion dollar to host the World Cup competition, I was shocked. And I wondered why do they spent such amount of money on something will happen maybe once in its history. I told myself ,it is more worthy if it spent this money to support the environment sustainability. Then, I told myself that I have to find out the reasons behind spending this big number of money.
Actually, I felt so proud ,as an Arab person , of what l found. The results that I reached forced to respect all what Qatar did to host this global event because this great country thought forward and tried to be sustainable as much as possible. "The architects in charge of building Qatar’s new stadiums pledged to utilise modular elements when designing these structures. This has largely come in the form of stadiums with upper tiers that can be detached at tournament end." Moreover,up to 170,000 seats will be removed from these stadiums and donated to other nations to help develop their sporting infrastructure. Furthermore, The unique 40,000-seater of the 974 stadium’s design incorporated 974 recycled shipping containers in homage to the site’s industrial history, and will be completely dismantled upon the conclusion of the tournament.

The resulting materials will then be reused in other construction projects in other lesser-developed countries.
Those results and others lead me to say that this is the true legacy.

  • I agree with this event, as Qatar becomes a tourist country after the World Cup takes place in it, and also encourages tourists to come to it, and this event opens up horizons for it, an example of that enables it to host football finals such as the champions league.

  • I'm amazed as to how big and important the men's world cup is and it is good thing but I really wonder. We have been learning about diversity and representation and its importance on the student hub through the topic Black Panther: Diversity and Representation. I really learnt a lot from it but it got me thinking. Why isn't the women's world cup as popular as "talked about" as the men's world cup?

    1. You make an excellent point, amazing_computer!

I personally prefer the footbal competition currently in Qatar to be called " the men's world cup" to make it clear that there are two football world cups.

As for the women's world cup, it does seem to be getting more popular and with more money in it, but it is still, sadly, far begind the men's game.

  • If people wanted to watch the World Cup not at Qatar they we could actually get together and try to persuade them

  • This FIFA World cup event at Qatar is going to leave deep impact in many ways. First this may perhaps make the Nation accept other culture, religious practices, the individual choice, with open mind.
Two, this may make Qatar a global tourist destination just like Dubai, moving forward.
Three, the fantastic infrastructure, established by the Government of Qatar in shortest time, may help to attract investors from several other countries.
Four, this may also help them to build a fantastic, much stronger Football club of their country.

  • Better Infrastructure-Tourism-Increased investment-Increased revenue-Better standard of living and economic development
It's like a chain. The legacy that big events like world cups leave behind is huge.First of all to host a big event like this,a country needs strong infrastructural facilities. If they improve upon this, this would attract more people to tour and visit their country i.e. the tourism grows. With the tourism sector growing,it would attract more inward flow of investment. With these investments,a country can make use of these funds in productive activities which in turn would increase the revenue generation and employment opportunities. With an increase in revenue, there is a better standard of living and this would accelerate the economic development of the country.

  • -I belive that the LGBTQ+ community should respect the law of Qatar.

-I disegree if someone can’t says LGBTQ+ people due their gender but maybe it just has to do with the muslim religion.

-Maybe it is forbidden for LGBTQ+ to go in stadium in Qatar what if they enter discreetly…?

-People for the LGBTQ+ Community don’t really choose to be like so Qataris should accept the sexual orientation of others.

-I’m absolutely certain that in the Muslim religion it’s a sin to deny a person his or her rights,no matter the rason.

-In short,as far I am concerned of the organization of the world cup in Qatar on community LGBTQ+ are not good.

    1. I notice that two of the points you make contradict each other, can you see which ones they are?
I really like how you consider the different voices in this news story.

  • Qatar should not be able to hold the World Cup as the World Cup is usually held in the summer not winter and they won bids from the US and many more so they bid to get this opportunity. They also won the right to hold it in 2010.

    1. What evidence do you have to justify that they won the bid from the US? Why do you think it's significant that they wont the bid in 2010?

    2. Some countries are simply very hot in summer. If they bid to host the World Cup (or other big events such as the Olympics) how would you suggest that the events be staged in summer?

  • I believe that Qatar should not be holding the World Cup because they have not really got any experience with football and had to build seven new stadiums for the teams to play on. Usually, we would have the World Cup in Summer but this year, due to the extreme weather conditions; hot and humid and in basically a desert, this huge football competition has been held in Winter.

    1. Good point about infrastructure talented_raspberry. Why do you think the weather conditions should affect who holds the World Cup?

  • This FIFA World Cup event in Qatar will leave a profound impact in many ways. First, it may cause the nation to accept the other culture, religious practices, and individual choice, with an open mind. Secondly, this could make Qatar a global tourist destination like Dubai, moving forward. Thirdly, the impressive infrastructure, which the government of Qatar has built in the shortest time, may help attract investors from many other countries. Fourthly, this could also help them build a great and much stronger football club in their country.

  • Qatar won the World Cup after winning a ballot of 22 fifa executive members.
We are impressed bu the stadiums saved, more than 100 new hotels built and a half million visitors during the world cup.
We are worried about the conditions, the workers have been unfairly paid and forced to work in dangerous conditions.
We are shoked by the LGBTQ+ community, they were not allowed to play.

    1. Are you saying that LGBTQ+ footballers were not allowed to play in Qatar? Were LGBTQ+ fans allowed to attend matches? Or is this a matter of footballers and fans showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community?

  • Arab countries have Islamic culture ..so Qatar has also .being the first country to organise such a mega event is a great privilege so for each country. I think this world cup will b remembered long long after it held the reason they maintained a standard nd up to mark preparations for this event .

  • So The World Cup it is one of the biggest legacies in the world, and i personally think that it is a waste of money and how much that they spent on it.This is outrageous! Don't YOU want to stand up to this? Your letting Qatar ruin our future! If you truly care about the world then you should protest against what is going on in the world.

  • Hello! Qatar is a lovely country for its weather! But the reasons why it is controversial because lots of people’s homes got lost towards the stadiums. Qatar had no stadiums before the World Cup and spent millions on stadiums and hotels for people who are travelling to Qatar for the Cup! The impact it is going to happen to Qatar is a high chance,

  • Hello also! I think it shouldn’t be held in Qatar because the laws in Qatar are appalling and it is extremely hot and Qatar are not a football country as they had to build new stadiums when they didn’t have any!

    1. I agree because they wasted time building the stadium and the workers got poor pay for SEVEN new stadiums

    2. Conscientious_tradition, which laws in Qatar do you think are appalling? As you are in the UK, do you think that there are any laws in the UK which the leaders in Qatar might think are appalling?

  • I think it should not be held in Qatar because of the human abuses and the workers have had poor pay

  • I think the world cup benefit the country because the country is not civilized enough. The world cup really make Qatar very popular and this brings more benefits to Qatar. The last world cup that was held in Russia was not as interesting as the one happening in Qatar. But it is very sad that Nigeria can't make it to this year world cup. One thing I like about this year world cup is the way they make the stadium, the song they played and everything there is more beautiful than I ever expected. I wish all the players good luck.

    1. Thank you for your comment, motivated_tradition. How would you define how civilised a country is?
