How else could you debunk conspiracy theories?

Skill Description Competition Problem Solving

What actions can YOU think of that would help debunk conspiracy theories?

In this Headline's Learning Zone, we learnt about four actions that people already take.

But if anything was possible, what else can you think of?

Your action might be to do with social media, schools, newspapers, or something else!

How to share your action:

Explain what you would do, and then tell us why its a good idea.

Here's an example of how you could present your action:

Action: Conspiracy-theory busting assemblies and talks

One idea would be to set up an organisation that sends volunteers into schools to deliver assemblies and talks which debunk commonly-known conspiracy theories and how children can spot them in the future. These presentations would be really interactive and engaging, involving lots of audience participation. This is a good idea because students often remember something that they enjoy and that they can get involved with.

The idea is to create government that will punish those who spread false conspiracies and put in every school at least a teacher to help students understand the facts that are going on around then so that aconscious generation can be created and this government opens achannel on Tv that exposes conspiracy theories and I think it'sagood idea because the government trusts it will be easier for the people to expose conspiraoy theorios.

Yes, I see from my personal point of view that what draws our attention and draws us the most and takes our time is social media, which has the largest share in influencing the world's understanding of conspiracy theories, through which we can stop many conspiracies, but the role of the person who has the role of exposing these conspiracies must have the ability It is sufficient to expose those conspiracies and has the ability to persuade. Through social networking sites, we can make the conspiracies weaker than you had to.

As I am studying at school, there is an idea, which is to print brochures, for example, or small magazines that expose conspiracy theories so that they relate to writing the conspiracy and prove its falsity with evidence and distribute it to the students with the help of a group of my friends who have the same convictions and try to convince the students to read it carefully. This is a good idea because the students will have written material that they can review and read when they go home so they will take their time to think, analyze and get to the truth.

These are some of the measures that I suggested to expose these conspiracies, and I will divide them into communities, and each solution will target each community separately.
1 We must target places with great social contact, schools and universities, by teaching them ways to differentiate between truth, rumor and conspiracy by extracting evidence before judging whether it is a fact or a conspiracy theory that must be nullified.

2 Work intensively to raise awareness of the women’s society, as we know that the women’s society is more in contact with each other and more interconnected than the patriarchal society and has the ability to spread rumors and conspiracies in the blink of an eye, so if we work to educate this society about the danger of rumors and conspiracies and how to get rid of them and their response, it will actually be (note I suggested this solution based on what is happening in my reality and my social environment)

3 Target the social media that most people use, especially those used by the children's community. If we create a generation that understands the dangers of conspiracies and how to thwart and confront them, it will have a huge impact on how these conspiracies are thwarted and eliminated by publishing videos or articles appropriate for all ages. As cartoons or scientific articles...

4 Dissemination of articles widely in the community about the conspiracy theories and their invalidations using clear and prominent evidence and this evidence must be linked to reality to become more convincing for all people and ages

Thus, we worked on all societies, and all societies became aware of the dangers of conspiracies, and it is one of the most effective ways to confront conspiracies and rumors, because rumors do not spread and do not expand except thanks to the unconscious society.

I will suggest asking famous people, in all domains: art, music, politics... to speak about the dangers of non-reliable sources of information and their consequences. People are influenced by that kind of advice, mainly if their messages are repeated and shown everywhere. Speaking about this subject as a serious problem in some studios will step by step, let people acquire a kind of knowledge in their minds about this subject ... and over time, this will become a norm in every society.

    Action: Involving the Social Leaders

Nowadays people do no longer come to hold illogical beliefs through hearing logical arguments. The primary mistake humans make while countering misinformation is wondering that clearly reciting statistics will sway them. people love to assume that “the information talk for themselves,” however they don’t. They want an advise. And the excellent manner to do that is to frame them in a way the individual may be open to.

There are many people in the society whom everybody respects, loves and believes in them. So if those social leaders or celebrities motivate their community via logical arguments many people will be inspired and try to discover the real stories. Thus debunking the conspiracy theories will be easier. This method will require contacting those leaders and faces and make them realize the benefits of having a society without misinformation and fake news.

The worst thing about the so-called conspiracy theory is it's name, Which happens behind the scenes, and it does not have to be conspiracy exactly, but it may be just a plan that it's authors do not want to disclose because it is malicious in its motives and evil in the means of its implementation.

As a student, I can offer several suggestions. First, I suggest that my school allocate the morning school radio to show
Conspiracy theories and their refutation in various aspects of life, whether health, religious, political, or even sports, and distributing pamphlets and folders so that the student can keep pace with audio and visuals and be made aware, advised and informed of the facts of matters.
The second suggestion is that it be done in cooperation with social media celebrities and local actors to shed light on and refute the conspiracy theories so that most of the social media pioneers are now being followed by many teenagers who can be made aware of this effective method.

Involving local and national level influencers into disagreeing with the conspiracy theories would be a very sound option according to me. Secondly, we can make use of social media in such a way(sharing posts, stories, making frames for profile pictures etc) in a view to strengthen the claim of refuting the conspiracy theories. In this way the people will see the approach from both their known friends and family and also high level influencers and our aim may be established effectively.

If some kind of discussion session in different groups with one counsellor in each group can be arranged, where the students(specially the victims of any particular conspiracy) will share their experience. First of all I believe we need to work on basic grass-root level in debunking such theories. Educational Display in school, team work or even a wall magazine program related to such topics can bring newer dimensions to students about such theories and improve their general knowledge aligned with such conspiracies. However formation of clubs that works on physics, chemistry and scientific ideas can make the students far more logical ideas about debunking such myths. In some remote areas of the United States, measles has spread at unprecedented rates. Last year, 58 confirmed cases were recorded in Minnesota, the highest rate of epidemic spread in the state in 30 years.

Also in 2008, the epidemic spread in California, and it was said that its source was a seven-year-old child who had not received a vaccination. Less than a decade ago, the United States eliminated measles. But researchers attribute the resurgence of its spread now to people who have not received a vaccination against the disease.

Some people, of their own volition, refuse to receive vaccinations, and are called "immunization opponents." They believe that vaccinations harm health, and that pharmaceutical companies deliberately hide the harmful side effects of vaccinations.

One of the ideas is to expose the conspiracy by collaborating with the phone manufacturers and sending messages to all users with evidence of truth and full articles , prove that the conspiracy is a lie and was a game under the tables, and also talk about the purpose of this conspiracy and how the evidence was reached because we have to convince people , because it will be difficult for them to leave a news that they believed and then said until it spread to the widest scope and this is what will happen, evidence will be sent and then made to believe it and then publish it until it becomes the subject of discussion on all media ,thus, we can expose the party that fabricated the conspiracy and free people's minds from illusions and incorrect news , and I chose to publish it through the phone manufacturers, because they already control the most used and addictive way for some people, so we will deliver the news where it will reach all users ,thus, it will become a topic of debate among the media, citizens and the outside world, and it is true that it will be difficult to convince the phone companies to send the plot to the phones , But we can do that if we involve politicians in the matter and make them reassure that they will not be given any wrongdoing if they expose this conspiracy, but that they will be supported and defended, and also if all the companies expose the conspiracy, neither governments nor any party will be able to assign them violations because this is a matter that includes most companies, and companies can protest

Social media programs are the thing that attracts the people and draws others in. It is possible to create pages that publish about conspiracies because this is an indication that we are talking about the danger of “belief” of conspiracy, and although the reality, historically and presently, is witness to the existence of real conspiracies, but that does not justify us to accept rumors and conspiracy theories. : "Being a kind of sterile beliefWhich is useless and counterproductive, even if it comes from opponents of the system, since it is not based on evidence, and therefore replete with the possibilities of lying”, asserts Professor Pascal Wagner-Eiger.
In other words, a rumor may be proven true (although most of them are not), but throwing accusations haphazardly and without real evidence is pure slander.

Then he: "If a rumor turns out to be true, it is thanks to the efforts of dedicated investigators or researchers, and never thanks to people on the Internet who believe every reasonable and unreasonable rumor.

I think doing something which students like most might be helpful.Online is very effective nowadays. But we also have to consider about the students from rural areas who are not really connected to online programs. So the best way is to make students aware of conspiracy theories are to hold programs in school and I would try to focus on the conspiracy theories in every co-curricular activities which students normally like to participate in like, song, dance etc
Another way to make students aware about conspiracy theories might be to make them aware about the life of celebrities.Because everyone has a certain person as their inspiration and those famous people are many times affected with conspiracy theories and rumors. So sharing their experience about conspiracy theories of their life might be really useful.

For me, the idea of news literacy should be used in every school possible because no matter what we do, at the end of the day we will need our knowledge to fight these off and news literacy would be the basic of it. Moreover, we might as well engage ourselves in knowing what informations to receive and what to ignore. Since teen time or even a younger age is the time to learn things, schools should take initiatives about this and thus educate them as much as possible so that there are no more believers of this conspiracy theory. We might as well start awareness in social medias too.

As I am a student right now so according to my point of view, creating some short video clips on conspiracy and showing it to the students will be effective. In every week, a session for students have to arrange where conspiracy and it's bad effects will be discussed and in this way students will be able to create awareness among them and in their surroundings. Another thing we can do that is writing some short articles on conspiracy theories in magazine which might be effective for us.

Action: Arranging meeting with the help of multi-media projectors in the school about debunking conspiracy theories.
teachers should take steps to show slides which is about debunking conspiracy theories with the help of multimedia projectors. so that we can understand easily and better how to spot conspiracy theories and how to debunk it because it is said that a picture is equals to 100 words. As we can see the slides in front of our eyes, no need to spend words behind it. our eyes have the most ability to understand the situation. So if we are able to show slides about how to Debunk conspiracy theories, it would directly impact our mentality and we would be inspired to the debunk this theories.

I have an idea that may cure this phenomenon, and I will take several steps _ First: I will distribute papers written on it with several evidence to expose these conspiracies, for example, I will choose a famous conspiracy and start putting the evidence one by one, and at the end of the paper I will write the negative effects it produces and the risks it leaves to the individual and society. Second: I will ask my teacher to explain and clarify to students the negative effects and explain them in a special and active way because it is more influential on students.

I will add to this some suggestions:

As a student, I would be really grateful and happy if my school dedicated some time to help me debunk conspiracy theories. They can do this through broadcasts and updating students of what is happening around them through simple plays or short pamphlets. My main idea is make students tell students about what is happening around them, of course by the help of teachers. As a student I will comprehend the massage from my classmate easily. This will help us connect and understand everything around us.

The state must integrate lessons about how to spot fake conspiracy theories and debunk them. However to make this opinion better the teachers have to covainc their students who believes in a false conspiracy theories it's wrong .certainly these pupils will spread what they learnt in their grate family and it will be spread threw many peoples .then step by step it could be civic culture.

Palestine suffers from a scarcity of natural resources and mineral wealth, but the suffering of the Palestinians the most lies in the scarcity of traditional energy sources, such as oil and gas, and in their high prices, comparable to the most expensive cities in the world. Moreover, the Israeli authorities control the quantity and prices of fuel, when it is allowed to enter, and when it is prohibitedInspired and due to this suffering, the Palestinians seek to overcome this dilemma by finding alternative sources of traditional fuel. They have found what they want, as the civilized world does, in alternative renewable energy sources, through which they hope to reduce their dependence on Israeli fuel, which has recently become a string on their necks, and a tool of pressure and political blackmail. The most obvious example of this is the fuel crisis that the Gaza Strip suffered in mid-2013, which negatively affected people's lives, especially the health and transportation sectors, until Gaza became as if it was living outside the age, using primitive methods of movement and lighting.

It is easier to spread conspiracy theories than to refute them, given that correcting deeply held beliefs is extremely difficult. Therefore, it is better to prevent falsehoods from taking root from the beginning than to try to uproot them afterwards, which requires looking beyond the content of those lies, and tracking the platforms and algorithms that fuel their spread. We need to investigate the reasons why people are susceptible to lies. We should study the influence of psychological traits and motivations on beliefs. Ideological beliefs are the product of signals from politicians and the media (top-down) on the one hand, and psychological mechanisms (bottom-up) on the other.

It is noted that people who are defensive are more likely than others to adopt conspiracy theories, perhaps in an attempt to avoid blame when they experience failures. There is a relationship between conspiracy thoughts, feelings of helplessness, anxiety, isolation, and alienation. People who feel that they are worthless cogs in the big political machine tend to assume that there are demonic influences that cast a shadow over their lives.

Responding to people's psychological needs may make conspiracy theories, and other misinformation, less seductive, as well as raise the level of general well-being. Education also contributes to countering conspiracy theories, given that it develops the faculty of analytical thinking in the individual, and thus makes him more willing to confront those ideas. Other measures enhance a sense of shared identity, feelings of belonging, and meaning in life.

Businessmen and politicians resort to spreading the conspiracy theory when they feel threatened. In the midst of elections, economic disasters or unilateral measures, they say that anything against them is supported by forces aimed at overthrowing the state, and that there are indications that its members have received specialized training.

I advise opponents of conspiracy theories to be patient, because the road ahead will be long and hard. But they need media support. And not allowing conspiracy theorists to have a different opinion to be hosted. What that means is giving equal areas to truth and lie. On the other hand, the role of raising awareness about the importance of the vaccine is not limited to the media alone. Political leaders, presidents, and public figures have a great responsibility. That's why they should urge their supporters to get -for ecample- vaccinated , saying that this will make a big difference. The clergy also have their own resounding word.

We should explain why the information is false, draw attention to strategies used to deceive, and present the actual facts, rather than just calling the information false or misleading. A more effective method is the proactive correction strategy, which serves as a vaccine against misinformation. This method aims to warn people that they may be exposed to misinformation, before it knows its way to them, and they are convinced of it. Online games such as Bad News and Go Viral show how fake news spreads and seem to reinforce people's tendency to be suspicious of the news and information they receive.

While I was attending a television interview on the screen, I had an idea that might have a strong influence, I think, given that televisions, the Internet, and screens have the greatest impact on societies. Therefore, I suggested setting up a program that receives influencers in society, such as writers, journalists, and personalities that have the greatest impact, and I chose these personalities for their proximity to the base. Popularity and its strong influence and the ease of conveying convictions have become required, which is to clarify the falsehood of these conspiracies and their dangerous impact on peoples and what they cause to oppress them. This dangerous falsehood, perhaps that idea will appeal to you...

There are ways to deal with conspiracy theories. First, it must be accepted that conspiracy theories will always exist, so it is important to monitor the private information space. Undoubtedly, removing these theories from the media will not solve the problem, but will only push them underground and make them more difficult to monitor. The danger, of course, is that continuing to host them on our platforms doubles the message of extremism, and thus achieves what conspiracy theorists want. However, I am not convinced that the vast majority of the public will not be attracted to conspiracy theories.

Second, building trust within our mainstream media. While it's not perfect, we can't reinforce the idea that the media is hostile to the population. These perceptions can lead individuals to seek information from notorious sources, and even from extremists. But this is a two-way street. While we need to be confident in challenging conspiracy theories that portray the media as an entity serving a small clique that is hostile to most people, the media themselves should be more responsible to avoid giving credence to this idea.

I think that there are ways to protect ourselves from conspiracy theories because I have a relative who believes anything presented on the Internet and I tried these methods with her and the result was effective
    1- Speak instead of writing
Managing personal dialogues in private with the other party is a key factor in its success. Direct confrontations should be avoided as much as possible, especially at the beginning of the conversation, because they may lead to the hardening of positions and the adherence of each party to its opinion. It is better to calmly listen to the statements and allegations of the other party first.

2- Asking questions and making presentations

Refuting the claims of others and rejecting their ideas as absurd or just nonsense does not contribute to the success of the dialogue. Even logic and facts don't work in conspiracy theories in most cases. Honest questions about conspiracy theories are often the best way to motivate the other party to reconsider.

Then, for example, you should instead suggest readings, audio files, or movies on the topic in question, allowing the other party to go to the topic again slowly and privately. This may allow the person concerned to question conspiracy theories and find a way out of the thought associated with them. You can then take the opportunity to invite the person to discuss

Questions I would like to ask someone who is very much involved in conspiracy theories
Why do you believe in conspiracy theories?
I ask you to verify the authenticity of the news before publishing it?
I want you, if you spread a rumor that was not true, would you be the reason for the discontent of your community?

How do we protect ourselves from believing conspiracy theories Some of my friends believe in conspiracy theories in the sense that they believe anything presented on the Internet and I have some ideas
To reduce it 1- Knowing things well
Before entering into conversations, you should look at things as best you can. People who are familiar with the workings of conspiracy theories are also better protected from them.
You can find more information about conspiracy theories, for example, on the websites of the Federal Center for Political Education, the European Commission and the Baden-Württemberg State Center for Political Education.

    4. Ask for help

In some individual cases, it may be right to seek help, for example if the other party is hurting themselves or directly threatening others. In this case, you should contact the local counseling centers. In some countries, there are advisory centers specialized in this matter, and frankly, the results were effective.

It is good that you organize a meeting and gather a large number of my friends and students of my school and talk about the danger of the conspiracy theory and its negative effects on the individual and society and make them ask me questions that revolve in their minds so that I explain and explain to them their questions and we suggest and exchange ideas on ways to confront conspiracies. Or represent realistic stories about the seriousness of the conspiracy that may draw everyone’s attention and raise their awareness of its danger, or make posters explaining the seriousness of the conspiracy and paste them in places where people gather, and using social media, I will make a group on Facebook. We collect a large number of people and do games, challenges and competitions about the most people who reveal conspiracies. .
