What's your idea?

This week's Learning Zone told us all about the greenhouse-gas emissions from particular foods.

Greenhouse gases are contributing to climate change and so it's clear the world must reduce them - and as 26% of greenhouse gases come from food, this could be a good place to start.

How can the world reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced from food?

We'd like to hear any idea you have - this could be to do with:

  • What people eat
  • How far food travels
  • How food is grown/farmed
  • Rules on what people are allowed to eat
  • Advice governments could give to people

...or another kind of idea entirely.

For example, one idea could be:

"An idea to reduce the greenhouse gases produced from food is to limit the fruit and vegetables that developed nations transport in from other parts of the world. This would reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced through the transport process."

The idea of reducing greenhouse gases resulting from food, I say, must change the prevailing food patterns that depend on eating meat, and relying on sustainable (healthy and safe) food as the easiest way to combat climate change.
ABC News reported that some people are asking themselves what lifestyle they can implement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as temperatures continue to rise around the world at alarming rates.
The US network said that governments need to make major changes to meet targets to reduce carbon emissions that lead to global warming, but that families can contribute to it.
She added that the easiest thing to do in everyday life is to control what is known as the "carbon footprint", which is the amount of emissions that result from an activity.
Experts say limits have been crossed in the consumption of meat, which is notorious for producing high levels of emissions, and they note that beef in particular accounts for the majority of the carbon footprint of the diet of the United States of America, which is the second largest consumer of beef after Australia.
Experts stated that people do not have to become vegetarians or give up animal products completely. "We don't want to turn people vegan, we're just telling them to eat something that has an average carbon footprint," says Marty Heller, a senior specialist at the University of Michigan Center for Sustainable Systems Research.
Heller explained that researchers at the University of Michigan and Tulane, asked consumers about their diets and found that 56 percent of the carbon footprint of all meals in the United States comes from meat, especially 45 percent from beef, while the rest of the footprint comes from fossil fuels. Meat, especially beef, in your diet makes a difference.”
The researchers said that countries could achieve 10% of their climate goals of keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius if the 20% of the population who eats meals with the highest carbon footprint eat average-productivity meals instead.
The Washington-based nonprofit Animal Outlook estimates that eating meat just one day a week can cut carbon emissions by 8 pounds a day, saving 28 wild and 175 aquatic animals per person per year.
And advises Gidon Eshel, professor of environmental physics at Bard College, that the ideal meal consists of legumes, lentils, chickpeas or even soybeans and not focus on meat.
Kathleen Merrigan, executive director of the Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems at the University of Arizona and a former deputy for the US Department of Agriculture, said buying local food also reduces the carbon footprint by reducing emissions from transporting food, pointing out that 30% of the fruits and vegetables Americans eat are imported. .
Experts advised eating organic and local food to reduce the carbon footprint, as organic farming consumes about 45% less energy than conventional crops, and the US network indicated that the European Union is focusing on reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides used in agriculture.

I think that a way to reduce greenhouse gases when growing food is to start making food more locally and have a limit on the amount countries get from overseas and even though a lot of people are doing sustainable farming now there is some places which aren't so they should try to do whatever they need to do cut the emmisions that they are letting of when growing food and people shouldn't eat meat too much and swap for plant based options which is one of the biggest ways to cut your carbon footprint so maybe only eating meat once or twice a week could really help.

idea that can help not waste food and therefore not decompose and emit gases that affect our climate. I think it is an essential and the first step to reach the consumer and it is that wholesalers, retailers, and restaurants can play a prominent role in reducing waste piles, if they require suppliers to use more food coming from local renewable farms; Ensuring that food products are sold after placing a uniform and clear label on it bearing the words “sold until / used until” would help store managers know when they can reduce the price of these products, and help consumers know when to keep or dispose of them. Restaurant owners provide different sizes of plates, reduce menu items, and encourage their customers to take leftovers home.

As for the community in which I live, there are some lands where planting trees is not correct, or the soil is not compatible with food. Also, there is no doubt that there is a mistake in the fertilizers. This leads to global warming. Lemon is eaten by people in the world in various cooking.. The food we eat is what was originally a seed on the soil and then this plant grew to be eaten As for growing food or plants, I do not know how to grow something from food, whether it is present or fruits, but I know that the seed that will sprout is placed on fertile soil and we also put fertilizers and then chemicals on it and then it grows and grows to grow a plant.. As for global warming, according to my point of view, I think that it is a mistake in the fertilizers, or that the fertilizers are not usable, or that the soil is not fertile and unsuitable for agriculture.

I myself am asking governments to provide some useful advice that is relevant to this cultivation, because agriculture is important and every farmer must be aware of this behavior in his cultivation. Governments must confront these lands and remove soil that is not suitable for cultivation. Also, when spraying pesticides and fertilizers, we make sure of their validity and date. Produce it so that it does not cause global warming and is not harmful to many people

. I think we as individuals have to take our own responsibility but certainly no one is in any position to tell others how to live - we must all find a balance in life that does not absorb life either. I think it should be about one compensation account. If I choose to take a trip for example, what will I do to try to compensate for my own behavior and my contribution to global warming. I can't give up on traveling abroad. But just as with my thrift (saving money for travel) habit, I am now engaging in my carbon offsetting habit to allow me the luxury of making that trip abroad.

From my point of view, I think that in the future, substitutes for meat will replace natural meat in people's lives, but it will not become like this out of the blue. We must try to improve it to meet people's needs. It is known that I heard processed meat stained with negative effects between types of meat, so some improvements must be made. It is an essential thing in people’s lives and depends on them in their lives to help the climate:
1- Attempting to improve the taste of meat alternatives so that it tastes similar to the taste of natural meat in order to attract all people
2- Awareness of people about the dangers of raising livestock in a large way and its damage to the climate
3- Attempting to promote alternatives to meat among people and in The world is using real facts to avoid the spread of rumors and false news
4- Conducting scientific research to see whether it harms the use of meat substitutes in the long term. If it is harmful, we try to improve it to make it healthy and harmless. Thus, we have worked on everything that might try to attract people to use meat substitutes and adopt them in their lives to help the climate and the environment. Second: Yes, I think it will include the needs of climate change and climate assistance The main and main objective of using meat substitutes is to help the climate.
Third: Taking into consideration the machines and raw materials that will be required for production, as I am a company that manufactures meat substitutes for the purpose of assistance, it is natural for my factories to be green, i.e. friendly to the environment and do not produce gases and harm the climate, otherwise people will not believe us and people will say “Meat substitutes are made for the purpose of assistance climate and it harms the climate, so it is a false company that aims to raise money and works to promote alternatives to meat in order to make money"
Since factories’ main goal is to help the climate, they must be green and environmentally friendly factories. They do not buy their raw materials except from environmentally friendly companies to be helpful to the environment and the climate in all respects.

As the machines calculate the amount of gases that can be caused by food, it is also possible to create meals from excess food, make weekly meals with the food that must be eaten, and make lists of food allowed to be eaten during the week.

Perhaps my idea is to encourage the purchase of local produce knowing that our global food system enables millions of people to access food from all over the world, but the more distance your food travels, the less nutritionally it is and the more likely it is to harm the environment.

Be mindful of the "dietary tendency" of your food. Food miles refer to the distance your food has traveled from the field to the plate.

The fewer miles your food travels, the better it is for your health and your environment.

Simply; The more distance your food travels, the higher the greenhouse gas emissions, the lower its nutritional value, and the more processing, storage and preservation it needs, which increases the amount of fat, salt and preservatives in it.

To reduce your food miles, you can buy local produce, grow your own fruits and vegetables or even raise chickens. You should also use fresh ingredients in your cooking and buy fewer processed foods.

An idea to reduce the greenhouse gases produced from food is to generally eat less meat, to be honest, I love meat but according to interactive.carbonbrief.org "food production accounts for one-quarter of the world's greenhouse gas emissions and takes up half of the planet's habitable surface. Meat specifically accounts for around 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions".

Basically, my idea is instead of going for a bucket of KFC Chicken or a Mcdonald's burger why not have coleslaw and rice? This is what everyone can do, now let's move on to what the government can do.

"The production of red meat accounts for 41 percent of those emissions, according to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization." 41 percent! this is more than double normal meat products. In my opinion, the government should not ban red meat, but reduce the amount of production and consumption.

    Thank you.

Global warming is caused by environmental waste, such as factory and car smoke. I know that we will ask ourselves what is the relationship between eating and global warming. He has a great relationship. I think that people should be aware of eating healthy food, not meat and oily foods, and staying away from fast food. Fasting travels to a range of weather conditions, for example, fruits if the weather is hot, milk will also rot, ice cream will also rot. If it sits for a long time in the sun, it will melt and become inedible. Food is grown in these cases, and if nothing is available, the soil, water, sun and drying of the seeds will spoil. Rules allowed to eat healthy food. Stay away from oils. Exercise to burn fat. and others. The government should put money to buy fruits and vegetables. They advertise healthy things Useful and make the market to make discounts on the prices of useful food. In this talk, I did not do research, but gathered my family and took ideas from them.

But you know, I think that what is meant by food here is food waste in the world. Annually, about 135 million tons of greenhouse gases are produced from food waste only. Food remains in landfills and there it rots and greenhouse gases come out of it. It is also true that environmental factors work to spoil food in homes, but There are several ways to preserve food and vegetables without spoiling for a long time. Also, each person can buy only what he needs so that he does not have a long period of time and spoils, and thus does not harm the climate.

Eating healthy food reduces your carbon footprint, as animal-derived foods produce much higher greenhouse gases than grains and vegetables, due to the highly inefficient transfer of plant energy to animal energy.

Animal-based agriculture is responsible for 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

One great way to reduce meat consumption is to dedicate one day a week to eating vegetarian meals, so sticking to this day does not mean an eternal commitment to switching to a vegetarian diet.

There are many ways to reduce global warming as we knew them previously, but now we will know how to reduce global warming by following a system that determines the appropriate food to reduce this phenomenon
I know that there are questions and a question mark in your heads, which is what food should we eat to mitigate this phenomenon?

Foods that reduce global warming, such as eating more vegetables, fruits, legumes and grains, help reduce emissions by up to 80%.
Emission of gases If you say that you make us vegetarians and keep us away from animals, this is a misconception.
It is good to eat one day a week of meat and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

I suggest to the government to issue shocking orders to follow the necessary nutrition to reduce warming and also must
Taking measures and penalties for those who violate this law in order to reduce emissions and global warming.

I think when the government tells people how to eat, emotions will appear and they will feel that the government is controlling them, but after explaining and explaining to them, I think they will be convinced that this is the best solution they can help their country with. They will understand their government care about them and their lives. Therefore, people will assist and help their country to get rid of a lot of problems caused by global warming and other issues.

The idea of reducing greenhouse gases resulting from food is to reduce meat from beef, which contributes to a consumption of 604 kilograms that countries transfer between each other. You can compensate for meat, legumes and grains such as beans, beans, lentils, etc., and eat foods rich in protein such as legumes, as we said earlier To reduce the amount of greenhouse gases resulting from the transportation process.

I believe that food production may cause about 29% of greenhouse gas emissions, twice what the United Nations has estimated to come from agriculture. More and more work is needed to reduce climate change emissions from food. Food production is responsible for between 19% and 29% of all human emissions, which is much higher than the UN estimate of 14% based on a narrower definition of agriculture.

The world can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced by food by rationalizing the use of chemical and organic fertilizers and pesticides used in agriculture. In addition, low-cost inhibitors should be used to regulate nitrogenous processes in the soil because agricultural activities contribute about 30% of total greenhouse gas emissions. The world must follow nuclear rather than conventional techniques in terms of measuring the impact of climate change in order to identify nitrous dioxide, a greenhouse gas with a global warming potential 300 times as much as carbon dioxide. It should also follow the carbon sequestration theory, meaning capture Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and stored for long periods in education. This is one of the best solutions available to offset the increase in greenhouse gases. This includes enhancing biomass production, using low-cost materials as plant growth regulators and biofertilizers, and conservation practices in no-till agriculture, using organic fertilizers and biochar, and nitrogen fixation using With leguminous crops, reduced use of pesticides, crop rotation and mixed crop-livestock production, in addition, energy flows and emissions can be reduced by adopting optimal animal feeding practices and managing organic fertilizers.

I think from my point of view that carbon dioxide is the most greenhouse gas, but it is not the only one of the gases. 1- Getting rid of non-renewable energy, such as oil, fuel, etc., and relying heavily on renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind, water, etc., because this energy does not pollute the air, and therefore it will reduce the increase in carbon dioxide emissions, and global warming will be reduced..
2- There is a way that I think will succeed in reducing global warming, but I am not sure about this.. It is the interest in planting trees in different regions of the world because, according to my knowledge, the increase in cultivated areas, this compensates for the destruction of forests 3- Reducing the use of transportation and transportation .. Sometimes people are very tired and need to use transportation periodically .. I do not deny that sometimes I ask for a car because I may be tired from walking, but I realized the importance of reducing transportation .. This does not mean that we do not use Transportation never, but to reduce it so as not to increase the pollution of the environment. Thus, these solutions that I propose, I believe that my community will benefit from them, and God willing, I will suggest these ideas to my friends so that they realize the importance of reducing global warming

Environmental waste is the main cause of global warming, for example, smoke that is harmful to the respiratory system and lungs
The person must be more knowledgeable and aware of the healthy foods that must be eaten, and their food is not limited to red meat or fatty foods, and the use of fast food must be reduced, which causes diseases in the stomach and intestines, as well as in terms of air and pollution that occurs as a result of smoke rising from transportation. People need transportation to go to restaurants, and there has been a development, so online ordering has become fast, which leads to air pollution as a result of smoke from motorbikes.
We can also use alternative foods on fatty foods, as there are many alternatives to this food for

There areany ways to reduce the greenhouse gas . One way is to stop wasting food beacuse food that’s thrown away decomposes in landfills and emits methane. Next , using less plastic wrapping, plastic bags, and plastic containers which are used by consumers to store, and transport food. Third, eat less meat and beef . Fourth , eating more plant that are based in protein such as nuts and seeds

There are many waysstop wasting in food production because extravagance leads to getting rid of food in the garbage and thus decomposing it and producing methane gas, which affects global warming 34 times more than carbon dioxide.

One of the problems that increase the phenomenon of global warming is environmental pollution and factory smoke only. This is what most people think, even those who are interested in the problem of global warming and who seek to reduce it, but this problem in itself is that they do not know that food is related to global warming, and this increases the problem of global warming And if I suggest that we carry out awareness campaigns in schools and public places and present this problem and ways to reduce it on social media because it is the fastest way to deliver information to most people, it has become 99•/•There are people who use smart devices, so we must exploit this phenomenon for the benefit of the whole world. It can also make celebrities pose the problem and solutions to their followers, and also publish their healthy diet that has been carefully chosen so that the followers can imitate them because people are imitating celebrities in everything. In this way, we can guarantee large numbers Many people follow a healthy, carbon-neutral diet.

An idea that can help not wasting food is that there are some lands where the cultivation of crops is incorrect and this leads to (global warming). Also working to improve the taste of natural meat would significantly reduce the number of livestock animals that produce (greenhouse) gases and reduce gases during the process of raising livestock.

My idea is to use lower-calorie alternatives: It is recommended when cooking and preparing foods to choose alternatives that are lower in calories, for example: skimmed milk can be used instead of whole milk, and the amount of butter used. In general, it can be said that eating a few sweets, potato chips, or other unhealthy foods from time to time will not cause harm to health, but it should be noted that some people may find eating a few of these foods an excuse or a reason to leave their diet completely healthy, and this is wrong. Even if a person enjoys a few of these foods every once in a while, this does not mean staying away from the healthy system.
