"It is impossible to live in a country where they shut your mouth" My reaction is THREAT. The main reason I choose this word is because the people of Ukraine feel threatened that if they should say a word they would get killed or arrested by the Russian government.

Thank you for contributing, diligent_library. I think that quote was referring to Russian people feeling that they cannot speak out against their own government. Why might Russia have a law that prevents people from speaking out?

Because people are going to expose the truth about what is really happening and they would know that all of these is not propaganda

The quote I picked was,"they said black people should walk". I am not shocked at this , even during war there is still racism. In the world today we battle against racism and gender inequality but it seems like it is only gender inequality that people are fighting against . It seems like they have forgotten all about racism. Racism is a very bad attitude, I believe that transport is for everyone then why are the blacks meant to WALK!? All the people leaving Ukraine for other countries are all refugees but all of a sudden blacks are not given food, why is that?
The reason I picked the fourth quote was because we need to start fighting racism in the world.
And also, if we do not eradicate racism, who knows if it will not become the reason for World War 3.

"it is impossible to live in a country where they shut your mouth" My one word reaction is MUTISM. I chose this word because the Russians are trying to keep their people quiet because, in Russia it is illegal to oppose the governments opinion, they are trying so hard to convince the people that what they are doing is right but the people are not falling for that. They do not want opposition because they know the people are nothing without a government and a government is more of nothing without people.

Them: "They said black people should walk."
    Me: Racism!

I choose this word because this is a racist speech that shows unfair treatment and a lack of concern for the life of black people. It is also insinuating the inferiority of the blacks to the white.

The quotation that I have chosen:" We don't  know when we'll see him again"

My one word reaction: " TRAGEDY ".
"Tragedy" seemed most appropriate to me because it can express the complex situation of family separation with prevailing feelings of uncertainty, despair, and loss

"They said black people should walk".
    RACISM!

The quotation that I picked was the one that said, 'They said black people should walk.'
My one word reaction was 'wow' because as I watched the video, I literally exclimed 'wow' in amazement that they had treated normal people so unfairly. Also, I have seen how far they have to go, it is far enough by vehicle, but by foot, that is very upsetting, even to me.

          inventive_analysis's comment 21 Mar 2022

Sadly to say, inventive_analysis, racism has been around for a long time. On a global scale, there are improvements, such as civil rights for black people in the United States and the end of apartheid in South Africa. Martin Luther King Jr once said that "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice", which means that things are improving and racism is reducing gradually.

I think in my view that it is normal for refugees to be present in any war, but in Russia’s war on Ukraine the number of refugees increased, and many of them were deserted, but in this tense atmosphere, what is the fault of the innocent child, what is the fault of the woman who suffers in this war, what is the fault The old man who is not able to defend his homeland, what is the fault of the land that is targeted by the enemy, what is the fault of buildings and infrastructure with all this, why war in the first place?? Why is the world not peaceful? Why do Ukrainian refugees suffer at crossings, train stations, and borders with other countries, even though they have a home, a neighborhood, a city, and now children, women, and the elderly lack many rights, such as:Freedom, housing, food and education. But why are they exposed to these things knowing that they do not participate in combat operations, and there is also no basis for this war, but they are exposed to danger with every step and with every breath, so I put myself in their place and say forgive me, I am not guilty!

I think that I chose the first quote that is content so that we don't know when we will see them again, I think this quote touched my heart, because I live in the same condition, so I feel them, and their departure from their land, their home, their friends, their family, and these things Which they were deprived of, I was also deprived of it, but no one looked at me or took pity on me, so I do not want anyone but me to feel this painful feeling, which destroys the morale, this painful reality, to be away from your relatives, away from the people and things you love, of course You will feel an inner emptiness, alienation, because you do not know when you will see the people you search for, so I hope this situation ends quickly so that it does not increase, and so that the refugee does not feel the pain of separation, and thank you for your question, but I want to know when this will end??

I chose the phrase (we feel for you) for all the quotes
We have been besieged for more than 75 years and feel no one cares about us. We were abandoned from our lands in 1948, families were separated, and we did not feel safe or peace since that time. The Israeli occupation continues to practice all kinds of violence and genocide against the Palestinian people. We do not practice our human rights and do not live our childhood as it should be. But we are still patient, brave and optimistic about the near victory, and we hope that you will be likewise and that you will release us all.

The quotation that I have chosen is " They said Black people have to walk".
My one word reactions would be ' bias'. I chose this word because even though they might have different coloured skin, they need enough food and drinks for them to survive and live. Also, it is very unfair that they have to suffer so much that eventually, they might even die since white people get a very efficient amount of supplies but they don't.
This is the reason why I chose this statement.

I have chosen the quote "It is impossible to live in a country where they shut your mouth." My one word reaction is : Disempowered.
I chose this word because a citizen that has being disempowered has lost his or her fundamental human rights such as right to speech/freedom of speech or freedom of expression. In situations where we cannot speak freely our liberties are restricted and the capacity to take part in decision making is weakened.

Of course, you will love them and consider them your friends, but in return they compliment you and praise you when you are with them, but in your absence they turn against you as if they are your enemies, spreading rumors and slandering you in front of Everyone, in my society, we call them "two-faced", in order to avoid this category, be nice to everyone and accompany only a few so that you do not suddenly feel like you are alone in the middle of the sea trying to sail to survive but you can't.

The quote that affected me "Black people should walk" Although they are fighting while they are in a war, but they still discriminate against racism. We are now fighting the world and fighting those who distinguish women from men, but we have forgotten that there is racial discrimination. From my point of view, whites are human beings and blacks are human beings. I do not think that there is a difference other than the color of human beings, and I hope that this racial discrimination will end because this Discrimination turns into bullying for children, and what is their fault if they encounter black skin, then we must break this racial discrimination. Thank you.

I choose " They said black people should walk " My reaction: This is not fair. They should not differentiate between white Ukrainian refugees, African refugees, and black foreigners. They are like some of them human beings, created from clay. The other is that everyone should be treated the same and not differentiate between them. I chose this saying to respond to it because it refers to discrimination and is called " racial discrimination ". Racial discrimination is through the distinction between white and black,so they treat people with black skin badly, like what happens in Ukraine,as they are forced into the cold and given to them .less food than black people and prevented them from emigrating.

The quote I chose is (It is impossible to live in a country with their mouths closed) and my reaction in one word *expression* Article 19 of the International Covenant states: “Everyone has the right to hold opinions without interference, and everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right includes freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers.” We should not shut our mouths from telling the truth and expressing our opinion as soon as we submit to an unjust government. I really thank the journalist Marina, who was arrested for expressing her opinion on her government’s false propaganda and telling the truth, and although she knows the punishment she may face when opposing her government, she did not give up Regarding the right to express an opinion, Marina is a role model for all people. You have to say your opinion and everyone should respect that, whether it is a government or a people.

The quote I chose is 'When we started reading the news we said' right away, we need to take someone in, to give someone peace, because it could have been us' and my reaction is with one word: SYMPATHY, most people like me who are not in the heat of the war feel pity and sorrow towards the situation, especially that of the refugees who have indirectly been denied of their right to own and live in a home. Even though the situation may be temporary its heart-breaking knowing that there are children like me who are not comfortable and forced to face this type of trauma. Even my country faced this type of situation but it was not war but attack on people and they had to build internally displaced persons(IDP) camps and this caused a lot of pain for both the government and citizens.

The quote I have chosen is "Black people should walk" and my reaction is 'unacceptable'.
This is totally unacceptable because the only difference between a black and white person is just the color of our skin so why should black people walk?. The war is between Russia and Ukraine and not the blacks and whites. I believe we were all created by the same God so I see nothing special about being white and nothing wrong for being black because we were all made by the same God and placed in the same planet so black people should equally be treated as special.

"It's impossible to live in a country where they keep your mouth shut." Of course, because the expression of opinion is a right guaranteed by all international conventions and defended by all institutions in the world. If a person is educated and educated, he cannot live without expressing his views on the issues surrounding him in his society, whatever their kind. The issue that currently occupies a space is the war of Ukraine and Russia.3. Of course, when a person lives in a homeland that guarantees his rights and makes him feel safe, this person will definitely belong to this country, recognizing his rights and performing his duties, where he feels safe and secure and faces death as a sacrifice for him.

It is difficult to force a person to choose between two things dear to his heart (his family - his homeland), forced to concede one to the other, and also the height of pain and suffering. Whoever deposits his family in the shadow of his ignorance of their fate and the date of their next meeting.

It is very heartbreaking to see people leave their families, homes, and memories. They actually lose themselves because country means existance, history, culture and civilization. The original country means the place where you belong to and owe alot. It is the coming future . Can you imagine you leave all that ? Whould just put yourslf in tge Ukrainians shows when they lose everything they like an eye blink! It is a miserable situation, it is even hard to expect or imagine! Is it that easy to oblige peaceful people to leave thier homes by force? And fir trivial and unrealistic justification! How does the world want peace and racism still exists Are black people not human beings? No, those who spread the policy of racial discrimination and implement it are not human beings, and just as the matter was not limited to the people of black skin, but to everyone who does not have blue eyes, whoever has blue eyes is the one who has the right to go to a safe place. Because this is real tragedy caused to honest victims who suffer the terror and the tension. The Russians' abuse is affecting their lives badly. Unfortunately, they are insecure and they seek safe and peacful life.So the Ukrainians are facing a very complicated crisis, however they can feel each other. EVEN in the critical circumstances through which they suffer, you can find people who sympathy with each other and put theirselves in the shoes of others. They are peace makers and freedom seekers. That is rare in the Russian people who are violently damaging others and breaking the hearts of mothers, children and eldery people. This is contradictory and the sarcasm of irony . The quote I chose is "It is impossible to live in a country where you shut your mouth" and my reaction in one word is "dictatorship". I see that this word matches perfectly with this quote because its meaning suggests that the government controls its people and prevents them from expressing their opinions, and this is very bad because among the human rights that he should enjoy and stipulated in Article 65 of the 2014 Constitution are the following: Every person has the right Expressing his opinion verbally, in writing, in a photo, or otherwise, assuming that there is someone to prevent him.
By what right does the government prevent its people from expressing their opinions?? By what right do you force them to remain silent?? .
I chose this quote because it pissed me off when reading it because it infringes on a human right, which is to express an opinion.

They said black people should walk. My first reaction is discrimination. The world almost shocks me every time. I didn't expect someone who was about to be killed by war to care about black and white discrimination. I'm not black, but why? Why all the hate! Will the black people die and the blonde will still be alive? Will blond and black-skinned marry not? Are they human? This is what we have to pay more attention to than violence against women, because many people, men and women, the elderly and children are responsible for it, and it is not limited to women only!! very angry.

The quote I chose is “It is impossible to live in a country where they shut their mouths.” My first reaction is “the truth.” As long as the truth is buried, and freedom of expression is lacking, how will the world know with whom defending, how will we distinguish the oppressor from the oppressed, and distinguish the truth? Therefore, it is impossible for us to find a solution to the problems as long as we do not know their truth. Russian journalists suffer a lot and work hard and put themselves at risk in order to convey the truth of what Russia is doing to its people and to the Ukrainian people, but Russia knows perfectly well that this will expose it, so it will imprison or torture them. The Russian journalist (Marina) showed us the clear picture of what is happening with the government's opponents from the heart of the event It is not limited to Russia, there are many journalists who have been “killed” because of their opposition to their bad government , such as (Khashoggi), who was very clear and very frank in telling the truth, whether about his government or others, and the government killed him in a hideous way, this is what happens with those who stand With the truth, as my grandmother says, “the word of truth hurts.” And the brave are the ones who can speak it. We must cooperate hand in hand to suppress a hand that stifles the truth and shuts the mouths of those who speak it.

Do they pose a threat to their lives? Their fault is that they were born with black skin! I really don't understand!!!! We are in all books and movies and everything... We are called "humans" I have not read a book that says (white skinned and black people whose father is Adam and their mother is Eve) No, no, we are human beings , we have the same fate, we were created from the same God, we live on a planet One. We have to think about more important things that threaten our extinction, including "wars, environmental pollution...

"We don't know when we'll see him again." This saying affected me in particular, because I know this feeling well and I live in Palestine. This happens with us every day. It may be a normal saying for some people, but behind it is the loss of family, loved ones and friends. You are about to die and you do not know if you will meet your family again. You do not know if you will see your wife and children again, you know nothing, you do not even know if you will live or die, when it is not your decision to survive in this war.

I choose the quote "we don't know when we'll see him again" and my one word reaction is "dilemma". I choose this word because each and every man who has been conscripted is facing a moral dilemma of choosing between family and homeland. This quote appealed to me because when I listened to Tom's explanation of the quote, I realized that I would be very confused on what decision to take if I were in the same situation and would probably have a mental breakdown. The fact that many Ukrainian men are actually willing to stay behind and fight for the freedom of their country is testimony to the fact that their mental fortitude is strong to an incredible degree and the sacrifices of each and every one of these men is immortalized within my heart and I daresay the hearts of every other person around the world.

I have chosen to quote (They said black people should walk)
and my response to it is equality. Equality must be between white and black, the poor and the rich. No person is born with an atom of hatred or racism in his heart, but he acquires it from his life, from his friends, or from his society.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights declared that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and the rights and freedoms established in it, without any discrimination as to race, color or national origin.
The General Assembly Resolution 1514 stressed the need to put an end to the practices of discrimination quickly and unconditionally.
    The equality very important

They said "black people should walk" what a biased cruel way of treating humans.I describe it as "a stigma". Is that the way of civilzed developed countries?!
This is a shame! How could they think of people this way?
This is the the most racist way of humans which indicate their ignorance. What do you expect from a country that still practice racism based on colors? I think this shows alot about their background and culture. This mistreatment is refused from all real humans!

The quote I chose is "It's impossible to live in a country where they keep your mouth shut." Well my word is *to demonstrate*, or to protest in other words the right to demonstrate and protest is a human right that stems from several different basic rights that human beings enjoy. While no human rights law or national constitution grants the absolute right to demonstrate, this right may be a manifestation of freedom of assembly, freedom of association, and the right to freedom of expression, and protests will continue and restrictions will continue to be imposed on them by governments.
Many international conventions contain a clear wording of the right to protest, and this is an important topic for individuals interested in protesting to keep informed of new legislation. These conventions include the European Convention on Human Rights in 1950, in particular Articles 9 to 11 of it. and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in 1966, especially articles 18 to 22. Article 9 states “the right to freedom of thought, feeling and belief.” Article 10 states “the right to freedom of expression.” Article 11 states “the right to freedom of association with others, including the right to form and join trade unions in order to protect the interests of persons.” However, the rights to freedom of assembly, freedom of association, and freedom of expression in these and other agreements are subject to some restrictions. For example, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights includes provisions on (propaganda of war) and advocacy of (national, racial or religious hatred). The Covenant allows for restrictions on freedom of assembly if necessary. Articles 20 and 21 state: “Freedom of assembly in a democratic society shall be restricted in the interest of national security, public safety, public order, the protection of public health or morals, or the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.” . It is important for people interested in demonstrating to note that various states have issued their own clarification of these rights.

I feel like I didn't explain myself clearly in the previous comment so I will now.
I chose "we don't know when we'll see him again" and my first reaction was denial. I said that because the teller said "when" which means they still have hope even with all the things going on around them, which I think is a kind of denial, because they still convince themselves that there is still hope even if it is impossible.
Choosing "when" makes it sound like they think they'll definitely meet "him" again but they don't know when. Maybe if they had said "if" instead I wouldn't have had this thought, because "if" shows a possibility without a particular outcome, which I think suits wars better (because you have to expect the worst, it's war after all).

(It is impossible to live in a country where they shut your mouth),respond to this quote: Freedom is the basis of everything, freedom in all respects, freedom is the basis of life, so a person must enjoy freedom no matter what, if it is different from the country in which he lives, or his color is different, or his religion, or his customs and traditions, or His race, his language, or whatever it is, he is in the end a human being who must be characterized and have rights and express everything that is pleasing to him. This is his opinion and he has the right to do so to gain his freedom and live in safety and peace.
