The Friday vote

A refugee crisis means that countries have to support more people than usual. Some experts predict that this war could lead to more than 4 million Ukrainian people leaving their country to live somewhere else. Most refugees arrived in the countries that share a border with Ukraine: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Russia, and Belarus.

Should countries accept all refugees that want to enter?

Vote in this week's poll and add your reasons in the comments.

There are benefits for refugees that can be brought to their new country, such as: 1- Most of the refugees who came to their new country had low academic and professional qualifications, and they needed many preparation and education programs in order to be rehabilitated and integrated into the labor market. Migration expert Brocker expects the situation to be different for refugees from Ukraine. "Half of the Ukrainian immigrants who came to Germany previously had university degrees and were well-qualified. I expect most of them will work in the service sector, etc.)

My answer is that countries should not accept all refugees that want to enter.
I said this because although most refugees are harmless, and are just seeking safety and shelter, some of these refugees could be could be criminals who have broken out of prison because of the chaos in the country. They could take advantage of the fact that there are open borders with neighbouring countries, and blend in with the thousands leaving the country. These criminals could cause crime in the country they have arrived in.

I said no, not all refugees are in one country. The issue must be discussed globally regarding them. One country will not be able to tolerate a huge number of refugees. Each country has its maximum burden for the population. Refugees are in addition to the original population, and taxes will rise to support them and problems will occur.
There are overcrowded countries that are not suitable for the original population, so how about the refugees? Therefore, I think that the countries of the world should consult on this issue and choose appropriate solutions to this problem.

I think that all countries are equipped with backup places for these urgent cases. The countries that are ready to help open their doors to them for a period that allows them to study the situation well, and if no one helps, they should protest urgently and reject what is happening until the world hears and rises to help in various parts of the earth.

I think that they should accept a class of people, but not all of them. They accept children, the elderly, sick men, unable to fight. If the men of Ukraine do not fight, who will fight?
Like our state, Palestine, we can win if we are one hand and we all defend the homeland.
Palestine is not a developed country because of the emigration of scientific competencies and the inability of the state to promote the mujtahids
I think that they should survive and defend and the state should encourage them and support them all and my opinion can be right or wrong

Should states accept all refugees who wish to enter? Yes; Because the refugees must live in peace like the rest of the people. Also, Ukraine has become an occupied country. The rest of the countries must support them and provide aid to Ukraine. The European Union has also promised to receive all refugees from Ukraine. Does this mean even residents of Ukraine from other countries or university students from African countries, for example? Switzerland also grants special protection to victims of the war in Ukraine, so all countries must help and support. In the end! I wish safety to the innocent and the refugees, and I hope the war will stop.

Yes, I feel that countries should accept all refugees that come into their country because if you do good to someone, it will come back to you. Just like the old saying, "What goes around, comes around." If other countries accept Ukrainians now when there are in need, anytime that particular country needs help, the good that they have done will come back to them.

These are words from a resident of one of Ukraine's border countries...

"When we started reading the news, we said, right away, 'we need to take someone in, to give someone peace, because it could have been us'."

This individual is right it could have been anyone or any country. It is best to help someone when the person is in need because the good you do to others will come back to you. Where I come from, it is believed to do good to others.

    Why not!
I think that all the neighbouring countries should adopt solidarity with the Ukrainians. This is a humanitarian issue, so all the independent countrues are supposed to support the Ukrainian just cause. They should also unite together to save protection for those victims as they are obliged to leave their country by force. The war in Ukraine is not a matter of the Ukranians only, it is about all the neighbouring countries who will be affected by this war in a way or another. It is wothy to say to that it is expected from these countries to stand with the victims of war and provide them with all their psychological and physical needs like respect, acception, and accomodation. The war could happen to any country, and it could influence other countries negatively. The refugees issue should be taken into consideration as it is a global crisis no matter how and when. We are all humans and we should advocate freedom for every person in our life.

I said this because, on the one hand, states must help citizens who have no part in the war, were harmed by it and were forced to migrate against their will without provisions or any shelters to protect them, and the state is busy defending lands and cannot help them, especially with the attacks of Russia, and perhaps Many of them die during migration (especially women and children groups) so they need help very much.

On the other hand, it may be a danger to countries, or the inability to receive a large number of residents at the same time, and to meet their needs in addition to the original population, will require a lot of effort and money, and also there may be some criminals or dangerous people who migrate to countries The other without knowing it, spreading riots and harming the population in the form of poor refugees.

I think that the issue of Ukraine and Russia is a global issue, so all countries of the world must cooperate to end it, and neighboring countries must embrace the refugees because in the current time they are the only ones who can provide real help to the Ukrainians. What is happening now likeThe burning fire. If we keep looking at it and screaming, we will die burnt. But if we run to the river and take practical solutions, we will be able to put out this fire, and one bucket is not enough to put out a burning fire, we must cooperate together, each with what he can bear to be able to put out this fire. And as I explained earlier, the problem of neighboring countries not bearing the surplus of refugees is solved by distributing them to multiple countries, which reduces the burden, and how much I would like the men who are able to fight to remain to defend their homeland , because there are only two options (either staying and defending the homeland) (or leaving home and make it an easy morsel for hungry enemies).

One reason why countries SHOULD accept refugees that want to enter, The more people participating in a country's economy the better it becomes. Economic activity alone is one of the many benefits of taking in refugees. There is an initial investment required when allowing refugees into a country. In countries with an aging workforce, complement their work and allowing them to retire.Being able to work and make money, In general allows refugees to stimulate the economy of their host country. They assist to generated demand for goods, created jobs and paid taxes. One reason why all countries SHOULDN'T accept refugees that want to enter, Is that the cost of receiving refugees may seem shockingly high, often leading people to fear that accepting them will be an economic burden for their country. There are some kinds of arguments people give against taking refugees; (1)SECURITY ARGUMENTS. (2)SCARCITY ARGUMENTS. (3)NO BENEFIT ARGUMENTS. They consume resources that are already in short supply. (eg.money, housing, etc). OVERALL, I support that the countries will accept the refugees that want to enter.I think ,it will assist us to demand or create something special for the country. There is an adage:"what ever a men sow is what he reaps meaning ,when we do good to others we do for our selves.

Yes, peoples and countries should receive Ukrainian refugees to help and protect them. We must join hands and help them because it is a humanitarian act that each of us should characterize. Any country that a Ukrainian comes to must help, protect and shelter him.
A person must help and open the door of his house to any Ukrainian who may come, because when the Ukrainian comes, he has nothing.
But a solution must also be found for the Ukrainian refugee problem, because currently most of the Ukrainians immigrate to Poland and the neighboring regions of Ukraine, and these regions may be filled with immigrant people, so we have a bigger problem, which is unemployment that we are basically trying to fight and reduce, and it could increase due to immigration.
In my opinion, the appropriate solution is to combine international efforts and humanitarian organizations to help the Ukrainians, facilitate their way and travel, and secure roads to reach different countries and balance them so as not to produce other problems.

i think that countries should accept all refugees, that's because everyone deserves living in a country, with a roof above their head, food, water and a law to protect them. Those basic human rights that people lose in wars, so they might find them through being a refugee.(Put in mind that they may not find them, and maybe face racism/discrimination because of living in a country that "aren't theirs").
But, i kind of understand why some countries doesn't accept refugees, let me explain:
1- accepting refugees cost the country money, so most countries avoid accepting refugees because they don't want to be responsible of refugee's outlay, because it may effect their economy.
2- some countries already has a huge population, so accepting refugees will be a problem for them, because, refugees need a house or a camp to live in, food and water. And because the country already has huge population, it'll not be easy to afford these things to "other" people.
3- Jobs chances, even in the country itself, people fight for a job so they can live and take care of their family, so refugees coming will also affect jobs chances, because they also need jobs to afford their basic needs!
Those are 3 reasons i think countries might reject refugees for.
Overall, i think countries should accept all refugees, but let's be realistic, not every country will accept refugees, and even if they did so, not all refugees will be accepted.

I "personally" think that human souls are more important than ANY other thing. So no, I don't think any of thise reasons are valid. But i, in fact said those as how presidents "mostly" react to these situations. Because i don't really think presidents would take the risk to lower their people's chances to give other people chances. (That doesn't apply on every single president)
So basically, I don't think these reasons are actully good enough; but some presidents might find them enough to reject refugees.

Where countries have to help each other. It receives refugees from neighboring countries if there is a war, and assists and protects them. But the refugees must be distributed over more than one country, so that there are no problems such as: The indignation of the indigenous population from the refugees. 2- The occurrence of problems in the economy, as when the demand for resources increases than usual, there will be problems. And this problem must be resolved between countries, as each country must be equipped with places to live in the event of the arrival of any refugees because of the war, and specifying for each country the number of refugees that it can bear without any problems.

When it comes to refugees, we do not know who is who. Some may be harmless and some can be as dangerous as those they are running away from. I feel neighbouring countries should check and examine each refugee properly before letting them into the country. Every one is trying to keep safe so if any refugee is caught with anything that can endanger lives then he should not be allowed to come into the country. In a nutshell, countries should not allow all refuges for safety purposes.
On the other hand, countries should be able to allow all refugees irrespective of their race. Aside from countries trying to keep safe by not accepting all refugees, they should be able to accept all refugees even if they are black or white. Countries should not be bias when accepting refugees, there should be no segregation.

I think it depends on the country's ability to take responsibility for refugees like: education, medical care, work, place to live and other than that. And the most important is that it mustn't harm the rights of the people's country. So if the country can take the responsibility for the refugees and make them live safe and happy, that's will be a very nice behavior from the country.

  • British Council.jpg genius_gazelle | Beit Lahya Prep Girls | Occupied Palestinian Territory
    19 Mar 2022

According to the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention, every individual has right to seek refuge if he is unable to avail the protection in his own country.

This convention was created for the protection of refugees in the aftermath of the Second World War. Tens of millions of people in Europe were displaced by the Second World War, followed after 1945 by a further exodus of millions of people fleeing communism, during the Sino-Japanese War, Partition of India and in the Middle East Palestinians were displaced by the creation of Israel.

However, we need to answer the question:" whether  countries should accept all the refugees that want to enter?

This subject has two sides to discuss:
First: Definitely, they should accept them, because saving human lives above all else. No one should die while he desperately trying to get some help and cross the borders especially from the nabours.
They are people who escaped from its home under attack or immediate threat. they seek asafe place to recover and when the situation gets better, refugees return home.

Second: Returning people by force or placing huge barriers in their way only leads to them taking more dangerous routes to safety.

    Third:
Resistance to accepting refugees is often due to misconceptions. Native citizens fear a disruption in their economy and culture. But in actuality, refugees stimulate the economy, enrich culture and supplement the job market. Better understanding the benefits of hosting refugees will hopefully mean that countries globally will be more accepting of this vulnerable group, realizing that benefits are provided on both sides.

Forth: Simply  the 1951 convention obligate these countries to have these refugees.

    On the other hand:
Refugees should not always be accepted by other countries. No country can have an open-ended commitment to take an unlimited number of outsiders. Most successful, modern  democracies are relatively open to outsiders but are based on the principle of fellow citizen favouritism.

I think Accepting refugees will cost the hosting country many things such as: providing shelters, food, clothes, healthcare and jobs may be.

Accepting refugees is not that easy for some countries which had already many problems in economic, education, the unemployment and eventually the Covid pandemic, they would be a heavy load for the hosting country.

Because of that everyone should contribute  according to their ability and the richest countries must take responsibility by conveying financial support to the countries that have received millions of refugees and experienced agreat pressure than the others.

The presence of displaced refugees fleeing from death coming from all directions due to the aggression of a powerful neighboring country, is a tragic matter that causes sadness and pain. They are looking for help, so I think that anyone who is classified as a human being will feel sad about their situation, and angry at those who caused them to do so.
Therefore, all countries and peoples should come to their aid, and the closest of these countries to extending assistance are the neighboring countries of Ukraine. The simplest principles of humanity are to receive them, because we are all human equal as the teeth of a comb, and everyone has the right to feel safe and comfortable.

I think that this is an exceptional case in which countries should prefer emotions rather expenses. There is no doubt that the coming refugees will coast the hoasting countries alot, considering the prices of accomodation, food, taxes and work, however, their should be a kind of recognition for their right for having a safe place to resort to. I mean those countries have to pity and enbrace them. What is happening to the Ukrainians is out of their hands and they flee as a result of emergency and they are not leaving their country for tourism. The refguees have their orginial countries that they are proud of and wish to return to but they are afraid of death. The war has deprived them of their right to live freely .Their land has been stealed and their houses have been damaged. Destruction is everywhere there. The women and children are in real danger. So the least thing those countries can do for them, is to accept them and respect their issue and support their rights until they get their freedom.

Ukrainian refugees are looking for safety and stability . So why don't these cities accept them?
We expect from these closest countries to the borders of Ukraine to protect and provide aid to them . That because they have no guilt and are obligated to do so . We must deal with them in a human manner . That means not to differentiate between them , treat them as our own people and support them . Doing this could reduce their suffering from war .
And not only the neighboring countries, but all countries of the world should support them and help them ,because this is a global issue.

    My answer is... Yes
I said this because Because all refugees deserve respect and access to their human rights that are stipulated in many international and international conventions, and seeking asylum is an emergency and exceptional event and requires standing by them and supporting them, because they endured a lot of hardships and troubles to save themselves, and since they fled from war and persecution, this does not mean depriving them of their right To enjoy and respect their human rights, they must be protected from racial violence, discrimination and exploitation. Here, governments and states must respect their joint responsibilities to protect the rights of these migrants and provide support to them, and condemn all policies that hinder refugees’ access to their rights, and give them the opportunity to rebuild their lives anew. There are many laws and campaigns that support refugees and welcome those who seek safety in the world, and there must be a political administration capable of protecting refugees from conflict and persecution. An example of this is the “Welcome Campaign” launched by Amnesty International, which urges giving refugees their full human rights without Exceptions, providing community service to them, resettling people and families and welcoming them....

    No
I think no because we should let them in our country but not all at once. If we let them all at once then there would be no room for the country and they could put the people ,who had no business of the war, in danger and harm them. Some of these refugees could be criminals who have broken out of prison because of the mayhem in there country and each country has its maximum population for there country.

Therefore, this is why I think that we let refugees in our country but not to many of them.

I said this because if we don't accept them we will be biased as a country, this will mean that we have no sympathy, no love and that we are a country that rejects refugees. The international treaty gives the refugees an important right, that is refugees have a right not to be sent back home into harm's way, so since refugees are not protected by their own government the international community ensures that they safe and protected. Refugees have a right to life.

I said this because the refugees can support their host countries and help in their development. Refugees bring a lot of benefits if they are given opportunities to work in their host countries, when the host countries loosen restrictions and allow refugees to work and open up business, there will be increase in productivity. The more people participating in a country's economy, the better for the country, the refugees can help in stimulating the economy of the host country. Young refugees working in an aging workforce compliments the workforce, they contribute to social security. When refugees are allowed to start business, they can employ locals, pay taxes and generate wealth for the host country.

I think that there are many common and misconceptions that refugees fall victim to because of them, that countries do not accept arrivals in the image of a refugee as if he were an outcast person, and this bias and discrimination is based on wrong societal ideas, and some countries contribute to financial aid to refugees while exempting them from bearing the burden of refugees on their territory. And there are those who view refugees as a resource that drains state funds and need a lot of support and spending, which affects the state’s economy, and the fear that refugees will transfer their crises to the hosting countries, as well as their fear of settlement and permanent empowerment in the host state... I said this because I think countries should accept all refugees because they were forced out of their homes into another country or state due to crisis, war, natural disasters or anything that violates their human rights. I think countries should give all refugees a chance, they should be allowed to work in various sectors of the economy as they might have different opinions and vast contributions to help build the economy system. Every country and culture has something that makes them stand out, something that they can teach and share with others. Many already have professional qualifications from their home countries. Most refugees exhibit a high adaptation potential, a skill that is important in every industry. Even as it is known that refugees are not the only way an organization can become more diverse, the experiences, skills and perspectives gained are some of the greatest benefits of hosting refugees.

I said this because even if they are different from us, they deserve respect and homes just like us. Just because someone is different from us it doesn't mean they should be treated badly. They should be given homes because they might die if they are not given a home or house to live in. If people are not given houses, they will not have any food or water to have and might therefore be ill or suffer. This will not be very good for them. If they do not accept 4 million refugees, there will be too many people in the borders and some people might not be accepted due to this.

If people don't want to accept the people, the government can say that if you take someone in, you will be paid 200 pounds for 3 days of them staying in your house. This way, people will want to take in refugees from Ukraine or anywhere else. With this rule in place, many more refugees will be able to stay in its bordering countries and cities.

I said this because I think all countries should not accept all refugees that want to enter. Over the years some refugees have proven to be dominators, they come into a host community and subsist on benefits. Refugees have tried to claim ownership of their host communities for instance in my country where refugees have taken away some political aspects, land and properties from the locals of such communities. Refugees aims to disrupt the culture of their host countries. Accepting refugees means that the native culture will disappear as they may bring with them different practices, foods and religions. If refugees are allowed to work they will take jobs away from some of the citizens of the country. Accepting refugees will lead to overpopulation of the host country which will result in shortage of food supply, raw materials and congestion.

I said this because a lot of people have suffered because of this war, the refugees want a place they can feel safe in, enjoy the peace of that land and a place they can feel at a home in. If all that they want is refuge then I think countries should let them come in. I said this because most of these refugees have suffered a lot from loss of their family members to loss of properties and loss of their homeland. If countries let them in, the countries will be giving them hope for a new life as one consequence is that people lose touch of their families, in trying to get to safety, sometimes mothers lose touch of their children as they get separated, siblings decide to go on different routes to arrive at the same refuge camp and most likely one sibling does not make it. As often is the case family members might never get united again, so if countries can take them in and help make them stay together it will help families stay together and put their minds at peace.

But before we say why should certain countries open its boarders to them, they should know that those Ukrainians have a land, a house and a job but they lost them all as they made many sacrifices for their just cause. When countries commit to protecting refugees, the refugees can move on with their lives in good time. Every individual deserves the right to life so do the refugees, when these refugees are given opportunities in the host country, they can be assets rather than liabilities. In some countries where refugees have been allowed to entered, refugees have been seen to be successful in the arts, sports, media, sciences and business, they have been seen to contribute greatly to civic and community life.

In situations where there is an out break of violence in the host communities, the refugees might be the first target by the locals. The refugee camps can also be used by combatants to draw refugees into cross border conflicts which will definitely increase tension in the host community. It has been recorded in some countries where refugees fleeing their countries have been housed alongside combatants and guerrilla forces in the refugee camp, with the relative safety in these camps, this enabled the combatant and the guerrilla forces to launch attacks against their own countries.

In my country Nigeria, there was a time when other countries like Ghana lived amongst us, most as refugees. Initially it was all good, but eventually, some criminals started taking advantage of the hospitality and started stealing from the citizens and so many more criminal activities. It became a national issue and the leadership and citizens had to call for them to go back to their country. Although there was no war at that time, the situation was still the same. SO in my opinion, I wouldn’t be in support of these countries totally accepting refugees.

I said this because every refugee deserves the right to life, we also know that sometimes some refugees with a not good intention can come into the host country, I think government should have the right machinery in place to check for criminal records of the refugees. Such that a refugee status of someone with a criminal record should be revoked and deported. Accommodating such a person tends to pose greater risk to the peace of the host country. But such person can apply for a record suspension and promise to leave a crime-free life. There should be laws made to govern the rights of every refugee by the government.

I think they should accept Ukrainian refugees, because they have no guilt in the war, and they just want to live in peace and security, and because people are for people, and we don't know, is it possible that this crisis will go through with the countries that receive refugees in the future, it doesn't have to spread refugees because of war, it could be because of a natural disaster, etc ... And if these countries support each other now, you will find people standing by them when they need help, and it will also increase the strength of the interdependence of states, and certainly also Ukrainian refugees will need work that is not necessary at the moment, because states provide them with assistance at the moment, but in the future to provide their income and livelihood, and they will be employed in the workplaces of these states, and this will increase the labor force in the countries receiving Ukrainian refugees and will work on their economic rise.

I said this because countries are just divisions of land but the people that live in each country are all from the human race and in reality they are just the same. I realized that about 250 to 350 million years ago, the continents did not even exist because they formed one super continent; pangea. I then realized that if the pieces of pangea didn't float apart we would all be members of one large country. In situations such as war, we should ignore the things that tear us apart and instead we should look at the big picture and and focus on the things that bind us together . As such, all refugees should be accepted into countries.

I think that if the continents had stayed together, humans would still divide themselves into factions albeit larger ones than the countries we have today, they would still be considered divisions. There would still be divisions because humanity is a race ruled by emotions and the failure to rule over these emotions would lead to conflict. However, situations arise where the emotions that are the reason for our separation could bring us back together. Emotions such as compassion, sympathy and love will usually triumph in the times where they are needed the most. An example of this how people are empathizing with refugees and doing everything they can to help them. I would say that emotions are humanities greatest flaw an yet their greatest strength.

Which wishing to states must accept all refugees wishing to enter? Yes; Because now all Ukrainians have fled their country to countries including: (Germany, Britain, etc.) and that countries should help each other, if other countries do not help them, who will help them! I also think that some countries refuse not to accept the Ukrainians, and the news that was circulated is: (There is no obligation for countries to accept refugees for their resettlement. Not all refugees are automatically considered for resettlement, and recognition of refugee status does not mean that a refugee is granted on a file for resettlement!! The other reason is:) Some refugees are safe and shelter, some of these refugees may be criminals who escaped from prison because of the war now. They can take advantage of the fact that there are open borders with neighboring countries, and integrate with the thousands who leave the country. These criminals cause crimes in the country they arrived in. This is a possible reason for not accepting all refugees. There are also benefits for refugees that can be brought to their new country such as: 1- Most of the refugees who came to their new country have low educational and professional qualifications, and they needed To many preparation and education programs so that they are rehabilitated and integrated into the labor market.2- Some refugees hold university degrees and are well-qualified, and I expect that most of them will work in the services sector and other businesses.

Yes, I feel that countries should allow refugees in because every person is entitled to his or her fundamental human rights which are the right to life, clothing, shelter, food, and health and this should not be overlooked. These refugees should not be discriminated against based on their ethnic group, race or religion and should be protected from these. A person's secondary needs too should not be overlooked, in the sense that their emotional and mental state of health needs to be catered for (the refugees have just experienced a terrible war and the refugees will most likely still be anxious and in shock). These needs should not be neglected either. Accepting refugees too has its benefits on the economy as refugees pay taxes, they use their skills, talents and experience to help develop the country, they also lead to an increase in demand for goods. They also create jobs leading to a reduction in unemployment.
A study from the economic impact of refugees in Europe between 1985 and 2015 showed that "in just two years of an increased inflow of refugees, the economy in the 15 countries studied became healthier and unemployment decreased". More about this can be seen in the link below.

    https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-05507-0

Similarly, a 2016 Tent Foundation report found that" in the European Union, each euro invested in refugee support programs produced two euros of return in economic benefits". This can also be seen in the link below.

It is not good to be selfish and think only of your own interests and issues. It is worth to note that collaboration is needed for the Ukrainian refugees. They are in a great need for a helping hand as they are forced to face the war with the Russians. All countries are blamed if they give a cold shoulder to the Ukrainians' just cause. The countries have to accept, welcome, and support them. It is worthy to show soloidatory and advocacy with their crisis. In this context, it is expected from all confident and free countries to respect and value the refugees and not to close the doors infront of them. It is an international and ethical duty to cooperate and show sympathy with the Ukrainian refugees.

I said this because our human nature demands that we reciprocate kind gestures. For example, if I were in a similar position as this, I would want to be offered any form of help available because at this point in time, I am struggling for survival and I need as much help as I can get. Compassion is a gesture that is reciprocated over time even though it may not be by the same person.
Secondly, it is because the earth does not belong to a particular group of people and so we need to first consider that we are all humans and we deserve at least a roof over our heads.

I think the countries which should accept refugees are wide countries with a lot of space so there can always be space but I do also think small countries should accept them but not all.

    My answer is... Yes
I said this because even though they are from a different country, they deserve a chance to live their lives happily. Nobody should be refugees or be homeless. Even though we all have different personalities, you shouldn't judge people just because of their appearances. It is not fair. We should always accept and trust people no matter what. The reason why we should let them go into different countries is because if they live on the streets, they might die of hunger. But, we have to control the amount of people that come in so that there will not a be a big rush. Overall, I think that we SHOULD let refugees in different countries so that we can provide a family and shelter for them.
