Meet Mary Lawlor, an expert on human rights

We are delighted to introduce the first of our experts on Afghanistan - Mary Lawlor.

Mary was named the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders in March 2020.

Mary established an organisation called Front Line Defenders in 2001 to meet the immediate security and protection needs of human rights defenders at risk around the world.

Does the Taliban movement in Afghanistan respect the rights of all its citizens?

If an Afghan woman or an Afghan girl or a man were to speak out about what's going on in Afghanistan, they would be at very big risk because if the Taliban find out what they are doing they could arrest them.
