Dear members of parliament,
I oppose this motion because you as MPs have a duty to represent the public that voted for you in the last general election.
Direct democracy is when all national decisions are put to the public to vote on. If this were to happen all the time, MPs would have no role, as it is currently their job to make decisions on behalf of the citizens who voted for them.
Therefore, as I'm sure you will agree, citizens should trust the leaders they voted for to make the right decisions for them instead of directly voting on the issues themselves.
If this were the case, MPs would instead have to attempt to deliver what the people want, similar to the situation created by the EU referendum in 2016.
Due to these reasons, I am sure you will agree with my opinion. Thank you.
