What is the point of democracy?

Definition of democracy:

This ensures that decisions work to the benefit or have the support of most of society.

decisions can be made that only benefit a small segment of society,

Decisions also wouldn't necessarily have the support of much of society, causing discontent.

When people are shut out of the decision-making process, often their only recourse is violence.

Democracy creates the best conditions possible for broadly improving the standard of living and creating a stable government that is supported by most of society.
