Welcome to this week's cluster conversation! Not sure what cluster your school is in? Check here.

There are different ways to "build back greener". Here's a recap:

  • INVEST IN GREEN ENERGY = Stop using fossil fuels (coal, crude oil and natural gas) and start using environmentally friendly energy sources. For example, renewable energy or nuclear power.
  • SUPPORT GREEN BUSINESSES = Give money to businesses that are environmentally friendly
  • HELP NATURE = For example, by planting trees, reducing pollution or protecting habitats
  • SUPPORT GREEN RESEARCH = Give money to help experts find out how to slow climate change
  • INVEST IN GREEN TRANSPORT = Make transport more environmentally friendly. For example, make more electric cars or a green public-transport system.

Which of these ways to “build back greener” is the most important for your country?

Top tips:

  • We want to hear about your experience where you live. The best comments will answer the question and explain why your experiences have led to your opinion.
  • A cluster conversation is small group of 30 schools that you will get to know really well. Try to reply to other people, ask questions about their answers and learn more about what life is like where they live.
  • A new cluster conversation question will be posted every Monday.
  • You can use this to help start your answer, "I think the most important way to "build back greener" in [your country] is... I think this because where I live..."

I think INVESTING IN GREEN ENERGY is the most important to build back greener here in the UK.
I think this because, although I live quite far away from any big, polluting cities, they're still there, like huge monsters trying to destroy the planet. They house many factories, which burn loads of fossil fuels every day. We need to stop burning so much coal, and creating so much carbon dioxide! It is slowly killing the earth!

I think the best way to get back greener is to encourage eating organic food and use bicycles instead of cars for short distances and public transport for long distances because if we do this there will be less exhaust fumes in the air moreover we should promote education about climate change and start campaigns to plant more trees in urban areas. Only trees can absorb the carbon monoxide and give us enough oxygen

These are some great suggestion focused on problem-solving. Most of your examples are things we should start doing. Are there things we should also STOP doing?

Yes I think there are many things we would stop doing such as throwing used up batteries because there are toxins that pollute the water moreover people should stop throwing rubbish in the rivers and seas otherwise we won't have the opportunity to enjoy a swim on a hot summer day the seas in my country are now full of jelly fish and tourists no longer enjoy swimming I also think that people use less packaging because it has become a very serious problem. Factories are also requested to use filters on their chimneys to reduce the amount of carbon monoxide in the air. People on the other hand should encourage endudtries that care for nature by buying cosmetics that are not tested on animals and foods with organic labels on them and boycott clothes made of animal skin. I personally think there are many easy things we can do immediately to help save our planet.

Among the ways to build back greener the most important ones for my country are:
    i) support green research
    ii) Help nature

I am sure my country will be able to support green reseach. As this can help bring awareness to people, people will understand and care for the environment after the researchers found solutions on how to build back greener such as by planting trees.

We as a country can also help nature, through helping nature we will be able to help the universe to fight against climate change.

My advice to the world leaders, they should should discuss on
    i) supporting open business ii) invest in green energy iii) invest in green transport
because these will have long term effects positively.

Hi Focused_Leaf - you make some interesting suggestions about what world leaders should focus on. One of your suggestions is to support open business. Could you say more about how open business could help in the battle against climate change?

For my country it is easy to build back greener by helping nature through planting trees and to support green research.
Help nature can be done in my country because it is easy and cheap to do. Whereby many people in my country are able to plant trees, flowers and to protect the habitat of organism. Helping nature is not expensive due to the economic value of people in my country.

Supporting green research can be done in my country, the government can support researchers by providing money to green research experts so as to help the environment at large.

Leaders when they meet they should discuss how to support green business, how to invest in green energy and investing in green transport.
We can also stop using cars that uses fuels so as to help decrease pollution.

Hi confident_perspective - thanks for your suggestions. One thing that you suggest is that the Tanzanian government should support green research. Are there any particular areas of research that you think they should target? Why would you prioritise these areas?

In my country we can change the climate through helping nature. whereas we are able to plant trees around our homes.
Trees will have a lot of benefits such as helps in rainfall formation, reducing soil erosion as well as provision of oxygen gas.

The ways which are most important to my country are, first is help nature and support green research.
Help nature is important way of build back greener in my country because it is simple to do and many people in my country have the skills to plant trees which will help us in formation of rain and gives oxygen gas and this way is not expensive.
Also the government might be able to support green research in order to make the environment clean and remove pollution. Examples are air pollutions caused by industries and cars, environmental pollution caused by deforestation and water pollution by using different chemicals/ drugs in fishing.
But I think if countries are able to support green business, invest in green transport and green energy then the world would be a better place for everyone.

I think the UK should support green businesses since Ecosia is a search engine that plants trees per every search. I think that this company should be supported so it can grow and plant even more trees.

Hybrid are special becauseQuite simply, a hybrid combines at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine to move the car, and its system recaptures energy via regenerative braking. ... The result is less gasoline burned and, therefore, better fuel economy. Adding electric power can even boost performance in certain instances.Even if hybrid cars are fast there are some soloutions likeFirst, acceleration in hybrids is generally very poor, even if they are capable of a reasonable top speed. Second, the batteries degenerate faster than one is accustomed to with a standard car battery, and need to be replaced every 80,000 miles or less. These batteries cost several thousand dollars each.

I think the main issue is that hybrid and electric cars cost more than normal diesel or gasoline cars so people will consider buying hybrid and electric cars less

In London, I personally think that to invest in green transport and to help nature are the best ways to build back greener. We should invest in green transport because majority of families have not got electric vehicles, meaning there is air pollution. With "greener" vehicles we can have cleaner air, which naturally makes us feel better. We should help nature as it helps us. An example of this is that trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen for us. This means both humans and plants benefit as we breathe out carbon dioxide which helps the tree grow and in return, it emits oxygen so we can breathe.

    Hello Alice,
well I suggest the research should focus on how we as a nation can change into using green energy and green transport.
These research should focus on giving us facts, as third world countries can we afford these? can a normal citizen earning a few coins per day afford to use green energy?
Is it affordable or not. If not then they can give some suggestions on how to go about it.

We could even solve the climate change by this
Renewable energies. Changing our main energy sources to clean and renewable energy. ...
    Sustainable transportation. ...
    Air pollution prevention. ...
    Waste Management & recycling. ...
    Sea and Ocean preservation. ...
    Circular economy.

Even if we can't solve climate change we can reduce it by these ways:Choose just one of these and start doing it now.
Drive less. Lace up those boots for shorter journeys and take public transport or cycle when you can. ...
    Brush with bamboo. ...
    Power shower. ...
    Go green. ...
    Off means off. ...
    Stay put. ...
    Properly insulate.

Plants are considered a critical resource because of the many ways they support life on Earth. They release oxygen into the atmosphere, absorb carbon dioxide, provide habitat and food for wildlife and humans, and regulate the water cycle

I think that climate activists and scientist can make a bigger change because they can give detailed explanations for what will happen if we don't react to climate change so it is likely that most people help the Earth fight climate change. However, business owners are less likely to help with climate change as factories are the places where they get their money from and they wouldn't shut down their business or they will face a loss of money. Business owners would also choose money over helping the Earth.

More frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans can directly harm animals, destroy the places they live, and wreak havoc on people's livelihoods and communities. As climate change worsens, dangerous weather events are becoming more frequent or severe.
