Hi BNC, it's Rose here. I visited The Economist HQ yesterday to find out what's happening with Brexit. Here are some answers from John Peet, the Political Editor. Watch the video and have a go at answering the questions!

  1. Why are MPs unhappy with Theresa May's Brexit deal?
  2. Do you think postponing a vote because you aren't going to get the result you want is a good idea?
  3. What are some of the reasons people want to stay in the EU and what are the reasons people want to leave?

We've added this special post about Brexit because there is lots happening around Brexit at the moment. The outcome will affect all of us significantly, so it's important to think about it.

Hi Tiff, I think that if Theresa May gets voted off we're going to have another giant election meaning that we'll have a brand new prime minister such as Jeremy Corbeyn. May needs 158 people to back her argument up but like harmonious seahorse said 48 MP's have written letters meaning that she only has 118 supporters. If we vote for May to stay, many people won't be satisfied and will decide to leave the European Union aka Brexit. I would vote May off as her choices are affecting many members of public and some MP's. She has taken charge of the UK once but maybe it's time to hand it over. What do you think Tiff?

My thoughts about brexit are mixed. When we all had to vote to leave or not to leave, most people didn't know what brexit really meant. Theresa May has tried to get a deal with the EU and got a ( very bad, in my opinion ) deal. The rest of the government does not agree with her, especially not Jeremy Corbin.

For me, on one hand, leaving the EU could be OK because it could allow Britain to be more independent and do trading with other countries.
On the other hand, the deal Theresa May's deal is not what I think should happen. I think Theresa May should be voted out and there should be another general election. Or another vote for brexit. What do you think??

Well done, you've made your point clearly!

Some people might say they did know what brexit really meant when they voted. Do you have any evidence to explain why you think they didn't?

Why might some people be against another vote on brexit?

I think people may be against another vote on Brexit because it has already been postponed by the vote of no confidence (in the end May was not voted off). If there was another vote on Brexit, this may take a long time and as Jeremy Corbyn has already asked for another vote of no confidence Brexit will be delayed even more and I think that many MP's will not be happy. The public will probably not be happy either because the people who did vote for this they would just want to get it over and done with. Also the people who voted for Brexit to happen may change their minds because of the disruption of the last few weeks; if there was another vote on Brexit it might get less votes. But on the other side it could persuade more people to vote for Brexit this is because people would probably want Brexit to happen much quicker, but right now Theresa May is in a sticky situation. This time for Britain is very important because this could be the make or break for Brexit.

Theresa May faces a vote of no confidence from the Conservative party. This means the party will decide if they want her to still be their leader or not.

    How might this affect Brexit?

I think Theresa May might be voted off this is because 48 MP's have already written letters. This has lead to a vote of no confidence. They have done this as they are not confident in May. This might postpone Brexit because if she gets voted off we would have to vote for another person to be the primeminister. If there is a new primeminister they would postpone Brexit and would have to start all over again. May needs 158 people to vote for her and she will still be the leader. May is going through a tough time as she had to call of the deal from in Parliament yesterday and many of her MP's were not impressed.

You've summarised this well. Is it a good or bad thing to postpone Brexit?

I think it is a bad thing because if May gets voted off we would have to do an election to find another primeminister this would be bad because the deal would go on longer and the new primeminister if there is one then they would have to negotiate with the deal. This would be a bad thing as Parliament may have to do an election after Christmas and this wod postpone the whole of Brexit and I think many MP's would not like the whole of the deal to be delayed.

    1) MPs are unhappy and are disapproving of Theresa Mays deal since they believe that her decision is to close to the European Union and inter cepts with their different rules and practices which they think will affect peoples day to day life and how they live. Also it allines Britain's to much and they attempt to avoid any border controls which will be a problem for anyone in the UK. On the other hand, there are already plenty of MPs on her side unhappy with the deal and willing to rebel. However I believe that Theresa May should follow up on the MPs argument about her deal. She should do this as some of the things that they are willing to rebel against may be helpful for Theresa May to take on board while deciding.

To begin with I agree that what Theresa May has done is very selfish and Vacant. Also by postponing the vote she could have possibly affected the numbers in numerous ways which I personally don't think is fair. If the vote had gone ahead as planned, the prime minister would have been defeated by just over a little bit, but as she has put the vote on hold that could change in the blink of an eye. Many people are arguing against her about delaying the vote. Surely taking her anger out on the votes isn't such a good idea. Although if she did get more votes my opinion on what would happen next it that there would be a big issue with Brexit about how she post poned the vote, and made the numbers drop. This could cause a big chaotic confusion. Doing so would eventually cause people to start blaming Theresa may and causing Mayhem, however people do think that she made a good choice for her to put it on hold as they believe it will give her time to focus on how to persuade people to change there opinion on who they should vote against. Many others still need Time to think about it and delaying the vote has caused many side affects for those people.

I think that Theresa may did a good job with brexit but I wish 🌠 that Jeromy Corbin was our primister but if she got a bigger vote my opinion would be there would be a big issue and every one will start getting upset and they would be a big argument. And brexit would be worst this could cause chaotic confusion so I think that Theresa should calm down a little bit . People are starting to balm Theresa may and it would cause mayhem

1). I think that the MP's do not like Theresa May's deal because the MP's must or might be feeling urged to agree with May and the larger amount of members in the committee in fear that they might get kicked out or in other words fired.
2). It most certainly is not correct because just because Theresa is PM it does not mean that she can postpone a date and not just any date but an important one just because she fears to get the answer she did not want because it is not fair on the citizens.
3). As I read in The Independent (
that one reason people want Britain to leave the E.U is because of all the people that come from foreign places to England to start their lives again.
On the other hand, some people want to stay and able to travel around the E.U and be able to trade things with other countries.
But sometimes l wonder ... ... ...will Brexit ruin the generation that awaits?......

Brexit may seem very complicated as things are not going well. For example the MPs are quite furious as on Tv I've seen them arguing and making negative facial expressions. The arguing will get to a point where the scale of opposition will crystallize.Lots MPs disagreee with the statements that Theresa has been saying, for example she said " I firmly believe, with my head and my heart, that this is a decision which is in the best interests of the United Kingdom." we postpone the deal we would have to restart the elaborate deal which is not all helpful.I personally think that people who live in the UK and don't have job voted to come out of the EU. Reasons why would be that mostly immigrants and some refugees are taking there jobs away from them and they probably think that it would harder for them to come in to the country legally and take there jobs.In addition there are others who want us to leave the European Union so that we could make our own laws and one important thing that people into wanting to leave would be setting our own tax rates.Explanations for staying would be to have a good trading system and holidays won't be so expensive when we travel out the countries.I just wanted to mention I want to stay in the EU
