How could robots change the world of work?

Featured Image - Future of Work 9

Though robots are nothing new in the world of work, with robotic arms helping make cars and manafacture different things. But what would happen if they were introduced into jobs which involve contact with humans? This is what I am going to discuss in this post. I have thought of these questions to answer:

  • What are the advantages of robots?
  • What are the disadvantages of robots?
  • Who would robots benefit?
  • Who would benefit least from the use of robots?

What are the advantages of robots?

There are quite a few advantages of using robots in the world of work, and here's a few reasons. Firstly, let's look at an example of robotics being used instead of humans to do certain things. In Milan, there is a bar called Makr Shakr, you will not be greeted by a human bartender, but before your eyes will be two robotic arms working behind the bar! You have to order via an app and the arms cleverly make what you wish. Emanuele Rossetti, CEO of Makr Shakr, explains that the robot can be up to four times faster than a real-life bartender in preparing customers' drinks. This is very good because this means that they can be more productive when working. In addition to this, more people will come to that place when the robot first is launched, as they think it is unique and amazing, but after that people will have already seen it and the number of customers visiting will decrease. Popularity for that location will rise quite a lot, as not many people have seen a robot actually working. Also, they do things at a constant speed, never slowing, and they work accurately too. These are reasons why robots are good.

What are the disadvantages of robots?

There are also a few disadvantages when it comes to using robots to do work. Firstly, the company that wants to use the machine must pay for it, which is very expensive. Complete with controllers and teach pendants, new industrial robotics cost from $50,000 to $80,000. Once application-specific peripherals are added, the robot system costs anywhere from $100,000 to $150,000. When the robot is broken, they will have to pay even more to fix it again. Another reason is that it will take people's jobs, which makes employers make them redundant, just for a robot to take their place. My final reason is that if something goes wrong, it will take time to repair it, whereas a human, even if they get it wrong, will learn from their mistakes, and machines do not have a creative mind, unlike humans.

Who would benefit from robots?

The people who would benefit from the robots are the employers. This is because the robots will bring in new business so they will get more money. They also benefit because they cannot say no to anything, making them the most obedient things, which leads to my next point. Robots save workers from performing dangerous tasks. They can work in hazardous conditions, such as poor lighting, toxic chemicals, or tight spaces. They are capable of lifting heavy loads without injury or tiring. Robots increase worker safety by preventing accidents since humans are not performing risky jobs, so in this case the workers benefit.

Who would benefit least from the use of robots?

The people who would benefit least from the use of robots is the employees. This is because robots are stealing their jobs, so they will get no money, and will be replaced by a robot. If I was in that situation, I would feel furious because it would have been the thing I depended on to live, and now it was taken away from me. They know that robots are better than they are, and may feel envious of the robots.

Finally, I think that robots are really great, but can affect people's jobs. Do you think robots are good to use to do jobs? Can you think of any other advantages or disadvantages about robots?

This was a very reassuring and excellent post, had lots of ideas and very good explanations
I really acknowledge The fact that you said robots are good in some ways because. In some countries like China I think they have already started developing robots in their country to run in places like cafés, Restaurants and more places and these are very helpful because they are basically human they listen and they do what there meant to do and they can be very useful in some condition so to terminate is robits can be used and it good but only in good situations and I’m times that we need it.good job on your work

This is very good! I have heard that some doctors are being replaced by robots as well(if I was a patient of a robot doctor I would be scared.) I really hope no robot will take away my job when I am older.I think that robots will become common in the future because they are more accurate at doing things like you said. It probably would be good if I had a advanced robot because it would mean no more chores for me! Or my mum.
Robots are also scary because in the early 1900s robots were just a dream. And to think that robots might replace the purpose of humans is just a thought now, but considering how fast technology is growing that will probably happen in the 2100s.

Robots probably have more skills than robots

Robots probably have more skills than humans: quicker, more consistent, no toilet breaks and rechargeable.

I mean that if all the robots do human work, such as growing crops, building houses and generally doing things that humans aren’t bothered to do, they will kind of become slaves in a strange way. I am also sure they were made for their intelligence so if robots are doing all the work then humans wouldn’t really be needed any more.

I think robots would be bad because people will lose their jobs and not have enough money to live or eat. This would be very sad. The business owners at a hi level would increase their money but the people that work for them would lose money.

Thanks for your contribution, composed_planet. I think that a lot of people would share your concern that workers might be harmed by the increased use of robots. Do you think that this has happened when robots have been introduced in the past? For example, do you think that the car-making robots that eager_reflection mentioned have been bad for workers?

I think robots are a real advantage working in nuclear power stations handling nuclear waste as it prevents the risk of human contamination and exposure to radioactive material or chemicals which can be fatal or cause long term illness.

It would change it because everyone would be busy around all the new technology they wouldn’t go to work and then they would get no profit

I don't really know what to think of robots doing jobs ,I think it would be useful but it would change lives make people redundant so there is a bad element in robots doing people's jobs. Then again robots could change work for ever if people could still get paid so everyone is happy.

In this article, I will talk about three topics, the most important of which is the meaning of robots and the advantages of robots. Two: How bad is a robot. Third: What do we benefit from robots in our life? We start a robot that is a mechanical man or an electrical body and it is able to work or program with a signal from a person or a computer device, and among the advantages of the robot is that it increases production, and the use of equipment effectively, and the ability to work in conditions Dangerous and other advantages. Second: What are the disadvantages or disadvantages of robots in our life: 1- It increases poverty due to people not working 2- It does not have the power of human labor to understand and work 3- Robots need a coherent and integrated plan. 4- The high political cost and the need for higher expertise. Third: What is the use of robots: It performs actions on behalf of humans, keeping dangerous actions away from humans, and completing routine work on them, and also saves money, and so on. In the end, I will say that man will not give up his work because it is the source of his livelihood. For robots replaced man, life would be difficult to live because of not finding money.
