What position are the buddhist people in?

2018-Issue1_Featured-Myanmar_3.jpg

We all know about the BNC issue, which is based on the situation including the rohingya people being injured and murdered for having a different religion than others.

After my class and I had a visit at the local Buddhist Centre, we found out a lot about what the buddhist do and what they want to achive.

They told us that they wanted to achieve 'world peace.'

They don't seem to be doing that, relating to the fact that they are one of the many reasons why this is happening.

Well done for finding out more about Buddhism - this shows excellent curiosity! I wonder whey there seems to be a contradiction here between beliefs and actions. Can you think of any other examples where this has happened, between what a religion teaches and what their follows do? And what might the reasons be for this?

  • I think the Buddhist people aren't succeeding in make World Peace because they're not KNOWN enough. Almost EVERYONE has heard about religions like Christianity... People mainly only like things which a great majority of others like as well. You wouldn't talk to your friends about a song they've not even heard of! There are lots of sections in popularity: Music; Religions (Christianity); People (Aung San Suu Kyi) and more! Budhists aren't known enough throughout the world so they're news aren't spreading fast enough. Lucky for them, Christians are making peace in the world! The Rohingya wouldn't be treated badly if they were more known, more people would stand up for them and care about what's happening. The Military wouldn't even TRY to attack them!

  • I think people like popular things more because I've seen that in some schools, people who are more 'popular' have much more friends than those that 'are not'. Songs that are 'popular' are watched and talked about and viewed more than those that 'are not'. e.t.c
