Activity 1: What is a refugee?
This is the first in a series of activities to help you recap the knowledge from this Project and complete an activity.

What is a refugee?
A refugee is a person who is forced to leave their country to escape danger. For example, to escape a conflict or climate change.
A refugee crisis is when many people need help at the same time because they have been forced to leave their country.
Next, watch this video (you might have seen it before):
Your activity:
Pick ONE thing that you have learnt from the video. It could be a piece of information, or a statistic, or something else.
Explain why it is important for other people to know this, too.
Try to explain your answer in FIVE sentences or less.

The most important thing I've learned is the concept of a refugee
In general, he is a displaced person who has been forced to cross a national border and leave his country, who cannot return home safely nor is he able to return there in the foreseeable future.
And I think that this is important for others because some may think that the refugee left his country for reasons such as tourism and so on

A refugee isany person who has been forced to cross an international border in order to obtain safety as a result of a war, natural or man made disaster in the place in which he or she has been living.
As for the Palestinians, the term refugee symbolizes the Palestinians and their children and grandchildren who were forcibly displaced by Israel from their lands and homes during the Nakba in 1948 and during the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands in 1967, and then prevented them from returning.

Refugees are people who have fled their countries because of a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion or a dispute , and are unable or, unwilling to seek protection from their country of origin .
What do you mean by "unwilling to", grateful_map?
That is, they are unwilling to return to their country because of the instability of the situation there and the lack of safety and a suitable environment for living, so they seek refuge in other countries.

Refugees are people fleeing conflict or persecution, recognized and protected by international law, and may not be expelled or returned to places where their lives and freedom may be at risk. It may be difficult for us to imagine life as a refugee, but even more difficult is the fact that there are 26.4 million such refugees around the world

What I learned is that about 2-3% of the population has left the Ukrainian borders, and since the war between Russia and Ukraine is the talk of the hour, many people must know this information. This leads to inciting public opinion against Russia, which constitutes great pressure on it and may stop this war
This is certainly a shocking statistic, creative_seahorse. Actually, it looks like the number has gone up recently. According to the UN, 4.7 million refugees have fled Ukraine as of April 13th. In 2020, Ukraine's population was 44 million, which means about 10% of the country's population has fled. How does that change your answer, if at all?

Welcome!
When I watched the video and saw your explanation of the meaning of refugees, their bitter truth we always understood!
In fact, all refugees, without exception, have suffered greatly in their lives!
Like the Syrian refugees in Turkey and Lebanon, they may have accepted his bitter truth that he was forced to leave his country because it was their government that killed the country...
And also the Afghans, as we have heard and seen in the news, how they leave in large numbers from the airport to other countries. This will make them feel alienated, even if they receive them with love, but they still remember the fact that this is not their country and those people they see are not ....
But from my point of view, I "have duties" towards refugees from all over the world!
We must make them feel a sense of belonging to their homeland to which they have sought refuge, and make sure to get rid of their feeling of loneliness and alienation!
I think in my opinion we can help the refugees to integrate
Take them on a city tour and offer them activities such as watching football together or having dinner.
2. We can also help refugees find work, as we can hire a refugee, support a refugee-owned business, or provide training or volunteer opportunities for refugees.
3- Of course we must be supporters and defenders, joining a campaign to spread awareness of refugee issues and solidarity with them.
4- Allowing people to study
Universities and schools can provide visas for refugees to start or continue their studies in another country. Such an opportunity can turn people's lives upside down by completing their education, integrating, making a living and contributing to society.
5. Reunion
Family Having a close family can make a big difference to people trying to adjust to a different life and culture, often while recovering from deep trauma. Governments are obligated to allow refugees to join family members already settled abroad through family reunification.
Perhaps these things make him feel a sense of belonging and comfort to the country in which he has sought refuge....

I think a refugee, in general, is anyone who has been forced to cross an international border in order to gain safety as a result of a war, a natural disaster or a man-made disaster in the place where he lived.
a refugee is a person that has not had a choice but to leave there country to find safety either caused by war, natural disaster or man made disaster.

Dear friends, the issue of asylum is not new to us. We have recently noticed many refugees from different countries from the effects of wars, including:
Syria, Ukraine, Russia, Iraq and other countries...
The ranking of these five countries according to the highest asylum rank in the world speaks:
1)_Pakistan the number of refugees is approximately 1702,700
2)_ Iran and the number of refugees is approximately 996468
3)_Syria and the number of refugees is approximately 1254634
4)_ Germany and the number of refugees is approximately 571685
5)_Kenya and the number of refugees is approximately 566487
This data was recently released
The concept of a refugee is: a person who is forced to leave his country, and there is a difference between a refugee and a displaced person.
Refugee: is the one who basically leaves his country, as for the displaced person
Displaced person: He is the one who leaves his governorate, not his country, but rather moves to another area of his country
This problem can be solved:
1)_ stay away from wars
2)_Agreement between heads of countries
3)_The alliance between peoples and the agreement among them
Thank you all ❤️❤️
Can you tell us where you found this data?
Yes, I can. I have already said that these are expected results, but can these statistics be confirmed?
Of course not, from time to time the refugees change and sometimes they become displaced. We can say that asylum is a state of unstable statistics.
Do you think it is always easy to "stay away from wars", strong_bird?
The answer is no, as long as there are heads of state and rulers who can make decisions themselves
But we can say that the wretched can tell us one word which is the solidarity of the peoples and our unity, and campaigns can be launched that enable us to make our voices heard to our superiors, and in this way wars can be reduced. .
There are other solutions: the solidarity of the states, I mean the states should contradict Russia and Ukraine, they should restore their political, economic and social relations because the two peoples are accustomed to solidarity and unity with each other, and there are also Arab states. Like Jordan and Palestine, whose population of Jordan, whose origins are in Palestine, is 70% of the Jordanian people, but we left our homes because of the Zionist occupation
But I have a question, is it possible to find other solutions to peace and not war?
Thank you
I agree with you strong_bird 100% that staying away from wars and agreement between heads of countries are the safest solutions to attain for stopping people's suffer as refugees, but I'd like to ask you a question my friend strong_bird, are those solutions even possible to achieve under the shadow of conflicting interests between the countries, and in the presence of the race of which country is going to lead the world? Now every country is seeking to sit on the throne of this world by developing their economies, military, technologies, and so on, and this is what makes these solutions quite impossible to achieve.
I do not think the differences may end. This life from the beginning. You find disagreements everywhere, but the goals of these disagreements vary from place to place. The problem is that everyone is trying to control to be the leader of this world, and this results in people fleeing to a safer place, despite the international agreements to protect individuals, but unfortunately people pay the price for the disagreements of governments.
my dear
The answer is yes, as long as we are a people hand in hand, the impossible can be achieved with unity and solidarity
I do not agree with you strong_bird when you said that a solution to war would be to "stay away from wars" because I don't think that is possible. No one ever wants to experience wars, but some people have anyway. It was not their wish to do so. My suggestion to you strong_bird is that instead of saying people should "stay away from wars", you should say that people should "prepare emergency measures for relief in case of wars" in the sense that people can store up food, healthcare equipment and supplies and so on in case there is a situation of war in a country.
I agree with you in this opinion. It is necessary to take all measures to protect individuals in the event of wars, such as securing safe shelters for them and providing them with the necessary needs. We cannot prevent wars, but we can mitigate their impact on individuals.
This is a really nice sentence that should be rephrased
thanks dear

One thing I learnt from the video or rather noticed is that Poland who didn't take Syrian refugees is now taking Ukraine refugees I noticed this because maybe Poland who didn't take Syrian refugees had a problem either their religion. But them accepting Ukraine refugees means they have noticed their RESPONSIBILITY and want to help the REFUGEE'S.
14 Apr 2022
I've learned that Ukranian refugees are migrating to poland, and that poland belongs to the NATO. Then, the NATO Allies agree to further strengthen and sustain support for Ukraine .
15 Apr 2022
The thing that I learned from this video is that refugees do not have anything to eat or drink or even a place to bathe in, and others should know this because ordinary people enjoy many rights that refugees do not enjoy, and however they are demanding in the marginalized rights.
15 Apr 2022
It is a painful thing to force a person to leave his home and become a refugee who needs a lot of moral support more than material. War and conflicts force many to flee to preserve themselves and the safety of their families, so they become homeless, which causes many problems for them.

This video is full of useful and considerable information, but what caught my eye is that although the polish government refuses to welcome syrian refugees, they're opening their arms for the Ukrainian ones. It's important for the whole world to notice this, to observe the racism against different nations of the world and what we can see here is the racism against Syrians from the polish side, so it's obvious that Poland is just faking its mercy as being a part of humanitarian organizations. According to that, laws should be legislated to make all nations equal with no one preferable to another.
This is an important point to make, amazing_reflection. You used the phrase "faking mercy" which caught my attention. Is this fair?
Hey Mrs. Katie, so if we get back to the history of Poland we can see that it is one of the original members of the United Nations, and and it is an active member in the UN in each of these three pillars: human rights, peace and security, and development. let's sink deep into this, isn't the one who is defending human rights supposed to practice it, then where is the human rights in discriminating between Ukrainian and Syrian refugees, where are are the human rights in showing racism between Nations, and what caught my eyes hardly is that goal 16 of UN is “Peace and Justice Strong Institutions”, but I can't see any justice in welcoming Ukrainian refugees but refusing for the Syrian ones and that is exactly what I meant by "faking its mercy".

A refugee is a person who used to live in his country safely, but was forced to move to another country, in order to obtain safety from any danger that might threaten him. I think that others should know this because of the psychological state and the panic that the refugee reaches
16 Apr 2022
A refugee is: Every person “every person outside his country of which he or she holds a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinions, and because of this fear lacks the ability to seek protection from his country or not.” ". He has the desire to do so."
Others should know this information because they believe that the refugees have left their country of origin for another country because of entertainment or left by choice and do not know that they left by force.

One of the most important things I learned from that video was that he number of refugees fleeing could reach 4 million very soon. This is important because with so many people seeking a haven away from the bombs and attacks of Ukraine, their mental health (as well as their physical health) will be declining. With the fear of death, the worry about where and how your family are, the stress that you might be turned away back to your demolished homeland and the conditions of hardship with losses in food quantity and sanitary availability, the Ukrainian refugees must be in a constant state of almost breaking down with it all. It is a major problem that millions have had their lives ruined, the lives of their family ruined and their mental health scarred forever with the prospect of fleeing their homes for a place unknown and never knowing whether the world as they know it could be crumbling under the weight of foreign soldiers and shrapnel falling on their homes. This is a blot on world peace, world happiness and how we can claim to treat our world's inhabitants well. We have seen this before, I thought we would have done something?
I agree with you encouraging_elderberry when you said that the increasing number of refugees can experience a decline in mental and physical health as they are constantly worried about friends and family and they are always afraid and filled with uncertainty about the future. This is a very crucial issue that needs to be solved. It is something that affects the whole world not just a country and if this issue is not taken care of it can have disastrous consequences on world peace.

The one thing that i learned from this is that how polish people are helping Ukrainian people by the relation of humanity.
It is important for others to know this too because it would inspire them to help the needy one's irrespective of their country, religion or from which of the countries taking part in war they belong too.
With all due respect, what about the Syrians refugees that were denied passage into Poland?
20 Apr 2022
What caught my attention is that Polish government refuse to accept Syrian refugees, but they're opening their arms for the Ukrainian ones. It's important for everyone to notice this, to observe the racism against different countries of the world. I mean it's a stupid cause actually what are we loosing lives for what the people and the government fail to understand is that the people are nothing without government, more so the government are even more nothing without it's people so sure kill people but at the end of it all its all a lost cause, people fail to understand that war does not determine who is right but only who is left after it all, people thing war shows bravery or power but no, it is a cowardly escape, when I see war all I see is uneducated people who cannot communicate efficiently, and these refugees have no choice.
20 Apr 2022
A refugee is a person who leaves his country because of wars and expelled them from their homes, so we must take care of them and provide them with their rights, and they are our brothers.
20 Apr 2022
I would like others to know that the refugees, although they are displaced, are expelled from their countries of origin, for one reason only, which is to protect themselves and their children from death and destruction because of those who are exposed to the refugees in any place or any country. By themselves, no matter how tired they are of troubles and pains, and that we are also with them to struggle in the name of the refugees for their stability, and that we will not leave our brothers in pain and do nothing for them and we are one hand against others.
20 Apr 2022
I salute you for your noble qualities Or not
Refugee: A person who has left his country to another country by force I hope that all these wars will end and everyone will return to their country of origin, subject to occupation I am a refugee student and I hope that the war in Palestine will stop and I will return to Palestine I wish I could see Palestine for just a second
Finally, thank you for your interest in this beautiful topic ❤️❤️

One thing I learnt from the video is that a refugee is a person who used to live in a better country or who left his country due to a war or any problem ,like Ukraines that go to Poland , and Poland accepted them. People should know this to help refugees whatever they are (black, white ,different religions, girl, boy )because this shows our humanity that we have. But one important thing to mention is that countries who host refugees need help, or the economy will collapse like the case in Lebanon. Syrian refugees added the burdens on the Lebanese economy without any sort of help.

The thing that I was impressed by is the fact that 2-3% of Ukraine's population seeked refuge into Poland. That brings up to the point of importance and the aftermath of this action in the future, in regard of the financial, social, development atmosphere. As we know some of the refugees might settle for the rest of their lives in Poland forming a massive diverse generation, that could be a cause of wars in the future, just as one of the reasons Russia invaded Ukraine in the first place. Adding to that the financial pressure on Poland's economy could turn into hatred from the Poles to the Ukrainians. Moreover crime rates might pop up, due to the incapablity of Ukrainians to find proper shelter and decent life eventhough with the support of Poland.

Refugees are people who have fled war, violence, conflict or persecution and have crossed an international border to find safety in another country, Also theres 4 types of refugees : Migrants , asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, stateless persons. All refugees need to be treated with respect and given their rights but at the same time the international community should help the host countries since refugees add more burdens in the economy of the host countries.

What could be done about this, noble_dinosaur?
Some measures could be taken, such as to have the International Community supporting also Poland's economy so that as the Poles are helping out the Ukrainians, their financial status doesn't get down to the ground therefore the tendency of the Poles hating and discriminating the Ukrainians is reduced massively. In summary Ukraine's neighboring countries should not take the burden all by themselves, even so refugees should also be transfered to another countries so that every supporting country receives its fair share of refugees.

A person who is forced to cross an international border in order to a btain safety as a result of a war , natural or man - made disaster
his is just my opinion but I think that there is a element of racism in Poland. why take-in the refugees from Ukraine now but leave the refugees in Syria out of the country. I think it is unfair and needs to be addressed by the world.
Poland is not the only country who has made different rules for Ukrainian refugees and refugees from other countries. What would you say to the leaders of these countries?
I think it has to be addressed by a group of people, but I think a (peaceful) protest for the refugee Syrians could be set up to send a message. I think this might be a effective way to get the word out since this subject is probably looked over.
29 Apr 2022
i have learnt that refugees are people who have to leave their countries without wanting to, they only do it to be safe. they don't feel safe in their own homes and feel unsafe in their country for fear of being bombed or attacked.
29 Apr 2022
My opinion on the situation is that refugees who have fled their countries because of war or any other reasons should be allowed into any country, especially if they are forced out of their country.
29 Apr 2022
isnt there still a lot of russians that support ukrain and not putins decision of starting the war?
29 Apr 2022
The thing I learnt in the video is that a refugee is a person who leaves the country because they are in danger. I think it is important that people learn that a refugee is not someone who leaves their country just to visit a place (tourism). I think we should respect refugees as they did not really have a choice about where to go and by accepting them into society. A problem that can occur is that there will need to be more volunteers helping out in countries accepting refugees and eventually there won't be enough people to do this.
29 Apr 2022
I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed in the country if they have good intentions or if they are forced out of their own country. I extremely admire people who welcome refugees into their home especially in these recent times with Russia and Ukraine. No person should be forced out of their country because of war, violence, conflict etc. All refugees should be treated with respect but at the same time the community should help the host countries.
Agreed, it is unfair for those whose houses have been destroyed by the war and have no where to go.
04 May 2022
I think that the Polish are amazing, it isn't directly their responsibility to help or take in refugees but they have done it anyway. We should never not help with a problem just because we did not create it, if we don't help people and at least try to fix a problem then who will?
04 May 2022
I think the most important thing i learnt is the concept of a refugee.
A refugee is where someone is forced out of there own country because there lives are at risk and they are escaping for safety.
No person should be forced out of there own country because of the threat of violent. The problem is some refugees are treated with more respect then others and this isn't right, all refugees should be treated equally.
04 May 2022
I think one important fact that most people should know is that only 2-3% of the population of Ukraine have fled so far, this shows that we still have a long way to go until this war is over and that other countries than just Poland need to be accepting more people into their homes. If the other countries do accept more people then it means a lot more of the population will be a lot safer than before.
04 May 2022
Everyone should respect refugees and welcome them. After being forced out of there country through war they should be greeted with welcome in there new country.
04 May 2022
one thing that stood out to me is the fact that Poland did not accept Syrian refugees but are accepting Ukrainian, there could be many reasons for this maybe religion? I also admire the fact that Poland says they will give food to any Ukrainian refugee.
04 May 2022
The polish are welcoming Ukrainians into their country I think it is important that other people know this so we can do the same and provide them with supplies they need. If we welcome them into our countries then they will have a safer place to live and they will be able to live their lives without being in fear. We need to help them because otherwise they are going to suffer. I think we should welcome them and play our part by helping them.
04 May 2022
What Russia is doing to Ukraine is highly unfair, as Russia is bringing up something that happened just over thirty years ago and Russia almost immediately resulted in war leading to I homes lost and even lives lost of the innocent Ukrainians.
04 May 2022
Poland are welcoming Ukrainians to their country to help them feel safe. I think that everyone needs to be aware of this as its very important to do our part to help those who have lost their homes and much more.
04 May 2022
From this video I have learnt that a refugee is a person fleeing their country to escape conflict and are seeking safety for their families and themselves. In this case many people are fleeing Ukraine and escaping to Poland to avoid danger.
04 May 2022
I was appalled with the amount of people that had been forced out of their country and I think that it is important other people educate themselves on this , I feel that if they did they would be more welcoming and accepting towards refugees and open to having them in their country.
04 May 2022
The bond between neighbouring countriesis amazing this act of kindness will be respected gratefully for years t5his shows how being kind will always come back around .
04 May 2022
Something that I was shocked at was how many people have been forced out of their country. I think that if more people opened up their homes to refugees, there wouldn't be as much worry for them. Also, education should be provided for people of all ages as they might not have the privilege to learn. Many countries have done their part by letting them into their homes but more and more people are escaping each day and communities need to do what they can to make sure they feel safe.
04 May 2022
A refugee is a person who flees their country to escape the conflict between their country and another. They usually have to leave their belongings behind in their country because its to dangerous to stay there any longer to pack. It's really hard for the unfortunate people as not only are they leaving behind some of their belongings, they have to suffer travelling with bags across countries. On top of all of this some countries don't even accept the venerable people.
04 May 2022
a refugee is a person that has been forced to evacuate their country that once used to be safe and flee to another area due to this. People who have become refugees due to the circumstances suffer from vivid emotions. The enforcement to evacuate is due to conflict that is being held within the country that was once lived in.
