Climate calamity

Is space travel effecting climate change?
Recently, Tim peake travelled to the iss and stayed there for 6 months. At 150 billion dollars though, I personally dont think it was actually worth it. Now NASA are thinking of travelling to mars, giving space tourism and thinking of an army in space. Now i'm not dissagreeing with them but i do think that with that much money you could be doing something permantly good to the environment instead of going to space and coming back down again.
As you may know, climate change is becoming more and more of a problem and rockets launching and burning fuel is not going to help. If they do decide to do something about it though then there would be no point wasting that money and launching rockets all over again destroying all of the work you done. Thank you for reading and i hope you agree

It's definitely affecting climate change because when you go up to space your polluting a lot.
thank you dedicated_strawberry and yes i do agree

It is playing a part in climate change because the fuel you use to power the rocket is going into the air and polluting it. Also they have to eat and drink out of plastic bottles and use plastic straws and they are not reusable. Even though the ISS is solar powered i still think it is polluting the planet.

I think it was a very good idea to bring up this subject incredible_snow, as it is an important matter that is in need of discussion. I have to say, I completely agree with you here as I know as well as anyone that climate change is a big problem. I think you are correct in saying that rockets burning fuel is affecting our planet, and what we can do to stop this is to try and prevent actions that will make the situation worse. Another part of this discussion you didn't mention was the amount of money going into it. $150b spent on launching a rocket into space that has been done already, could have been spent on something different, that could help save our planet, and much more useful. Personally, I think this is a very important discussion that needs to happen within the club. I'd like to know everybody's views on this matter, what do you think?
Can you expand more on what else the money could be spent on and back this up with some research? It would be interesting to see how much a country could afford to do with a similar amount of money.
