Some unexpected changes: what is happening to Mars’ atmosphere?

I read an article recently, NASA has spotted unexpected changes in the oxygen on Mars that scientists are currently unable to explain. The Curiosity rover has been measuring seasonal changes in the gas that fills the air above one of the craters on Mars.
The data that the rover has sent back to Earth has left scientists perplexed. Oxygen levels have been fluctuating and scientists have no idea why. The amount of oxygen in the air is constantly going up and down, which is unusual and appears to be happening at random.
But why is this happening? Can anyone suggest reasons why oxygen levels might be changing so unpredictably?

I think this may have to do with the way that Mars's atmosphere is made but I am no scientist

I also think it is important to debate for when we go to mars

I think mars' oxygen levels have been fluctuating because of a potential plant which is feeding on carbon dioxide and giving back oxygen, this then means that the oxygen levels should be going up, but they are not... I think this is because of another living creature which could feed on the plants which breathe out oxygen.

I think this is happening because of how different mars atmosphere is different to ours on earth. If scientists can't figure out what is going on and can't make technology to keep austrounauts safe , then I doubt that we will ever go to mars. Another reason this is happening because there might be a change in space eg. the moon might break in half to make a new planet.
