atrocious knife crimes

Shocking percentages
Sharp objects, blades and knives have been used as a weapon for thousands of years. But, after falling for several years knife crimes in england and wales have been increasing again! At the end of march 2018 there was a 16% increase in knife crime compared to the previous year.Under 18s were sent to jail for knife crimes 1180 times from April to June.
Interesting facts
Did you know, that if anyone is carrying a knife and didn't kill or hurt anybody, they can be sent to prison for 5 years? If they want to, police can stop and search anybody who they think is guilty of carrying a dangerous weapon. Isn't it interesting, how knives are the most common weapons used in killings of young people? Knife crime is falling in Scotland, fewer people are carrying terrible, horrifying weapons including young people.

I've given you a star because you've shown curiosity in your research.
Where did you find your statistics?
Why do you think there is a long prison sentence for carrying a knife?
Can you find out anything that Scotland has done in order to reduce knife crime?

Thank you for giving me a star, i think that there is a long prison sentence because if someone is carrying a knife it could fall out of there hand and hurt somebody who passes by. Next time i post, i will make sure to say where i found my statistics
The law is there because carrying a knife without a good reason suggests that you might use the knife as a weapon.

Additional to the knife carrying/ crime
Illegal
It is highly illegal to bring any sharp or pointy article. But it would be ok to carry a pocket knife as it only has less that 7.62cm (3inche) blade and a lock knife can not be folded therefore it is illegal to carry. It would also be illegal to sell knife of any kind to anyone under 18 and 16 to 18 year olds in Scotland can buy cutlery and kitchen knives.Selling, buying and carrying knives gives the maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and an unlimited fine of five thousand pounds. If this happens twice or more than that, it leads to sentence.

if someone is carrying a knife after buying it they can say that they bought it for the kitchen but lots of people lie about that so they can get away easily
What evidence do you have for this? The police would require evidence to prove this.
The evidence for if people brought a knife in a shop and lied is that if there was a camera there then they might caught it but aswell if there was a camera somewhere nearby, then it would spot where the person was standing if they murdered somebody.
