Reasons on youth crime

In this weeks burnet news discution we learnt why some youths do crime and feel the need ti have a knife. one of the reasons was that they didnt have many youth clubs. My group and i didnt think this was a good reason as there are plenty more clubs to go to and alot more serious reason. Another reason was that the goverment wasnt giving hard enough punishment. The majority of us agreed with this reason as when you see on the news that there has been an incident involving knifes and not much is being put on place due to age or trauma. In my opinion i think that there should be a more serviour punishment to hopefully stop teens from going out and grabbing a knife.

  • Violence in the media can influence young people and can cause them to act aggressively. A study done by several universities, The Influence of Media Violence on Youth, states, "Research on violent television and films, video games, and music reveals unmistakable evidence that media violence increases the likelihood of aggressive and violent behavior in both immediate and long-term contexts." Where you live, your teen's neighborhood can cause your teen to act more aggressively. Therefore, if you live in a neighborhood where young people are forced to join gangs to survive and fighting is the normal, young people are going to act aggressively and participate in violent behaviors. Peer pressure can cause youth violence when young people's friends are prone to act with aggression. Addiction to drugs can lead to violent behaviors as well if the person is younger than eighteen, therefore this is breaking the law and that could also lead to violence. Furthermore, if a devastating event happened it could cause aggression. For instance, if the young person loses a friend in a car accident that they were also involved in they could get angry at the fact that they were the one that lived. Also, mental illness is also another cause of violence among young people.
