Leadership for Change 2025 – live lesson

As part of the Leadership for Change Prize 2025, we celebrated Global Media and Information Literacy with a special event.
On Wednesday October 22nd, we brought together thousands of children from around the world for an online live lesson in partnership with Rolex.
Students:
- Engaged in lively activities on leadership and media literacy
- Heard from special guests Dr Sylvia Earle, ocean explorer, and Emilie Steinmark, Economist journalist
- Took part in polls and discussions with peers from around the world

What time do live lessons take place?
Live lessons take place at 10am and 2pm (UTC) to accommodate schools in a range of time zones.

How do I sign up?
Register your class via our Zoom links for the 10am or 2pm (UTC) lesson. Registration for this event has now closed.

I don’t have a Topical Talk account, can my class take part?
Absolutely! You don't need an account to access the live lesson.

Do I need to prepare anything?
To get the most from our live lessons, you'll need a screen, speakers and a stable internet connection. Ahead of the event, you'll receive an information sheet with all the details you need to ensure a smooth and engaging experience for you and your students.

Yes – the live lessons can be enjoyed as a standalone event.

What is the format of a Topical Talk live lesson?
Live lessons are delivered online by experienced teachers at The Economist Educational Foundation. We introduce key words and concepts, set polls and challenges and lead a range of discussion activities. Students hear from inspiring leaders and have the chance to get their questions answered.
