Prisons in Ecuador; Why are they so bad?

This post was written by a student. It has not been fact checked or edited.

In Ecuador, crime is in abundance all around. Therefore, it would make sense for there to be prisons located all around as well. Most of these prisons are filled with drug dealers and drug gangs. The problem is the amount of power these gangs still have while in prison! They still have influence, raw power, members, and contrabands although they shouldn't be remotely close to having these things since they are in prison. Ironically, some prisons are the reasons they get phones, drugs, and sometimes even weapons!

Ecuadorian prison officers are sometimes overtooken by the prisoners, bribed, and corrputed. When any of these things happen, the military usually comes to save them or eliminate them. The best way to prevent any of this from ever happening would be to simply heavily enforce the guards and officers with extensive backround checks or tests to ensure they will not let anything unexpected happen. It would also help it put gangs in seperate cells far away from eachother or possibly put them in completely isolated places. To ensure even more safety, it would be best to make strict rules in the prison for the purpose of knowing where eveything should be and how. This would be a good idea in my opinion to better ensure the safety of others incase the prisoners ever get out of control.
