Elon Musk - too powerful?

Elon Musk has gained notoriety in recent years for being a very influential person. Some say he is good; some say his power is too much for one singular person to wield. But how is it in reality?
Firstly, it is crucial to mention Elon Musk’s massive social media presence. For example, on X alone, he has amassed 200 million followers. This already shows the influence he has over millions of people. For example, when Musk promoted Dogecoin, a satirical cryptocurrency, through a series of jocular tweets in 2021, its share price increased by over 7000% in just over three months. Improvements in Bitcoin and Etsy stocks were also observed when he respectively made #bitcoin his Twitter bio and wrote a tweet praising Etsy. This shows his ability to control entire markets just through his tweets, which demonstates his dangerous power.
It is also particularly important to mention the wealth he carries. As of the 24th of February 2025, he is the richest man in the world. This fact adds on to his power.
Finally, Elon Musk’s entry into politics solidifies his power and why it is dangerous. Elon Musk was appointed by Donald Trump to lead the department of government efficiency (DOGE). Through this, Elon Musk influences US politics in his favour. In just two weeks after Trump’s inauguration, he has led efforts to seize access to the federal payment system, dismantled an entire agency and offered millions of civil servants an ultimatum - quit or face being fired. This shows his overwhelming influence on the American people. A few weeks ago, Elon Musk published a string of tweets supporting the far-right party in Germany known as the AfD. This party has gained notoriety for its members making many hateful statements. This shows that Elon Musk is ready to use his influence for bad.
Some might say that Elon Musk is a genius who has innovated many different fields such as electric cars. But his recent actions say otherwise. His scary amount of political influence and the parties he is supporting is downright shocking. No one person should be able to hold this much power.
In conclusion, Elon Musk’s power is characterised by his political influence, wealth, and social media presence, which draws me to the conclusion that Elon Musk is too powerful.
