Should a country’s first responsibility be to help its own citizens or to help people in need around the world?

International aid - Standpoint image

A country's first responsibility should be to help its neighboring countries instead of its own citizens. They can’t be corrupted because they have to give aid to their civilians. I believe this because if another country attacks them, the countries that they helped could help them back, because they are not hopeless anymore, and most likely have most of their resources back. If two countries are in a war, the weaker country can support the stronger country to win.

Another reason why countries should give aid to their neighbors first is to build trust to have more allies. A lot of people might say “What if the neighbors are the country's enemy?” The simple answer is just don’t give aid to your enemy. Many small countries will need this help because they don’t have a big army to fight their enemies. If countries can’t find another country to help them, they might need to stop looking and use the aid on themselves to stay alive longer than just giving up and leaving the aid for waste instead of nothing.

These are all reasons why a country should give aid to people in need around the world.
