Should a country’s first responsibility be to help its own citizens or to help people in need around the world?

Who Should Get Aid First?
Friendships Between Countries
Countries have alliances like NATO and they support each other, which could influence their decision to give aid. Some countries would take the easy option and save their country first. But some might think twice. Wealthy countries like the UK or the USA may save their citizens first as they have the supplies and aid to do so.
Who should get aid first?
In my opinion, Countries should first give their own citizens aid as this could have massive benefits, like long-lasting respect. Imagine YOU were the leader of a country. What would you do? Personally, I would spread aid across my country because we need to upgrade hospitals, schools and roads. Someone might disagree with me because some say that if the country treats other countries better, it will get respect and support when the country is in trouble.
Consequences
There are two different way this can go:
Choosing to support your own country could mean there might be a possibility that the country will get hate from other countries, which can turn into political disasters or maybe even wars. Although, the citizens will be happy for that their country puts it’s citizens first.
Choosing other countries. Other countries will respect your country more, but not the citizens. The citizens will blame the government and this may become political like Syria’s war outbreak. This may increase poverty rates and even death.
In conclusion, I would give my own country aid first.
