If all ages are influenced by misinformation, should there be any age limits on voting?

Lowering the voting age - Standpoint image 3

Have you ever received misinformation from someone? Many people have gotten misinformation before, but how can it affect voting? From my perspective, I think that there should be an age limit on voting.

One reason is that younger people don’t really think for themselves. Some young people listen to others on the internet, like on Twitter/X and TikTok. When younger people see someone they like, for example, Taylor Swift, they sometimes listen to or follow that person. Some people can use their fame as an advantage. If some people, like Elon Musk, said that you needed to vote for this person because of a specific reason, some people would listen. Some kids/young adults think that if a popular person says that this person should be voted for because of this, they should follow that person because they’re really popular, but that’s wrong. They might just be friends with the person, and since the person is running for president, they are probably trying to persuade people to vote for that person so that their friend can win.

Another reason is that some young people usually don’t research the people they’re voting for. If you don’t look into people, you won’t know what happened in the past with them. What if that person were a dictator in another country and you wouldn’t know? For example, if a person who has a bad history runs for president in our country, the young people won’t really look to see what the person has done in the past. Young people don’t do extra research on things. They usually let things go and wouldn’t really care or think about what would happen.

For these reasons, I think that there should be age limits on voting because young people wouldn’t think for themselves, and they don’t research on people.
