Would giving 16-year-olds the vote improve democracy or just change the way campaigns are run?

Lowering the voting age - Standpoint image 4

I think lowering the voting age to 16 is not a good idea because 16 is still very young, they do not have much life experience.

At 16 you can't buy lottery tickets, but if the voting is lowered a 16 year old could possibly decide who runs the country, would they understand the consequenes of their decision.

Another example to support my opinion is that at 16 or 17 you can't even stand in elections that you are voting in, so why should you be part of the voting process.

On the other hand, some people say that you can work at 16 and pay taxes so you should be able to vote. Also 16 and 17 year olds make up only 3 % of the population so it woudn't make a difference.

After looking at both sides of the argument, I still believe 16 is too young to vote, the disavantages out weigh any advantages. 18 is an age when most are mature enough to undertand the voting system and what it would mean for them.
