Would giving 16-year-olds the vote improve democracy or just change the way campaigns are run?

Lowering the voting age - Standpoint image

Since 16-years-old are impacted by political decisions and should have a voice, I belive that allowing them the opportunity to vote would strengthen democracy. Also, it would motivate young people to have an interest in politics earlier in life.

The first argument in favour of my point of view it that many political decisions, like those related to education, climate change and the economy, have a direct impact on youth, they should have a voice in selecting liders because these desicions will affect their future; the second claim in favour of my position is that granting a 16-years-old the right to vote might boost political participatory. Young people are more likely to stay involved in democracy and vote as adults if they being voiting at a young age.

Someone who doesn't agree with my opinion might argue that 16-years-old aren't old enough to undestand politics so they don't have to vote or that lowering the voting age would only affect the voting campaings because some politicians would center their attention on winning the vote of younger people; but since many 16-years-old are already mature enough to work, pay taxes and to study politics at school, I belive my case is stronger, they have been able to inform themselves to know what campaign they prefer to vote.

In conclusion, reducing the voting age to 16 would increase lifelong political engagement and give youth a voice, both of which would strengthen democracy. Young people should be granted the right to vote if they are trusted with social responsabilities.
