Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

I don’t think international alliances always make the world safer. They can create protection, but they can also create pressure.
When countries stand together, it can prevent conflicts because no one wants to face multiple nations at once. Alliances can also build cooperation and trust between member countries. That part definitely supports stability.
But at the same time, alliances can divide the world into groups. When strong blocs form, other countries might feel threatened or pushed aside. And if one country in the alliance gets into a dispute, others may feel obligated to support it, even if they wouldn’t have chosen to get involved. That’s when tension can grow.
So for me, alliances aren’t purely good or bad. They depend on how wisely countries use that power and whether they focus on peace or competition.
