Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

I have mixed views on this topic because it depends on how trustworthy the alliance is .
My first example is Greenland hasn't done anything to America's President Trump, Greenland has done nothing and recently I saw a video that said “Mr Trump “ he isn't that important in this discussion because it's currently him destroying the Nato alliance by stealing Greenland's oil .
My second opinion is , America is actually smaller than Greenland so if they go to war Greenland will actually have more allies than America because America's President Trump is in the wrong and is currently destroying Nato .
Others might say that it makes the world more unsafe because countries are getting into wars that they don't want to get involved in .In my opinion, I think it makes the world safer so we could try to make peace with the other countries .
In conclusion other people will disagree a bit . Personally, I think it makes us safer and a better world .
