Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

NATO - Standpoint image 4

I think international alliances make the world safer, and lead to more tension.

For the alliances make the world a safer example. There is the Nato. Because, Nato is the biggest alliance in the world. It still gives peace to Europe. Also, they don’t need a specific process to enter to other counties that makes them more friendly and trust each other.

Also, there is another good example in Asia. It is ASEAN. They are Southeast Asia alliances. They made it to prevent their conflict. It was still stable until 1967.

Some think each country can be trusted and it can lead to world alliances by the trust. But, it is kind of ironic. Because, each country can not trust each other fully. Also, you have to solve the religious conflict, territorial dispute, and ethnic conflict.

For the alliances can lead to more tension. There was a WW1 alliance. Germany, and Austria-Hungary were allies. But, the Austria-Hungary conflict with Serbia. Because of the alliance treaty the strong country had to join that war. So, it led to WW1.

Presume my thinking there is another example for me. That is East Asia. They were trading and fighting for over 1000 years. Because of those histories and geography, there is still tension between each country. If two countries alliance with each other, the other country will get threatened. For current news, the prime minister of Japan said ‘Intervention in case of emergency in Taiwan’ that led to Chinese tourists decreasing 45%.

To summarize, international alliances can make the world safer, but you need to solve a lot of problems, and it can also lead to more tension such as the example that I mentioned before.
