Do international alliances always make the world safer, or can they sometimes lead to more tension?

NATO - Standpoint image 1

300 alliances in the world; a really huge number. Alliances have been fouded since Prehistoric times, among the members of the tribes. They worked together to hunt, gain terrain, but above all to fight againts other alliances. Nowadays, the main purpose of alliances is to help and protect other countries. Of course, this is good, as they give protection, and aid from powerful nations; but is this going to happen forever?

In my opinion, alliances would be good if the member states worked together and followed the rules. Unfortunately, this does not happen now, and alliances can lead to tension both among the members of different alliances, or even among the member nations.

Why would a person believe that alliances can lead to tension? Many people can think this statement. Well, this is true, why would an alliance cause problem with nations, if the member countries protect each other, work together and try to prevent danger?

In my opinion, alliances can generate tension because they can lead to conflicts with other countries or economic problems; think, for example, in the Second War World in which organizations fought against each other; more recently, the war between the USA and Afhganistan, in which the NATO had to collaborate; or even, in ancient times, when the different villages and kingdoms fought with each other, due to the wish of power.

At the same time, your country does not have to enter the war and participate in it in case of battle, but it must help the country with who they collaborate, despite they disagree the action that the nation is doing, as aid is usually mandatory. A clear example of this, that also we have also learnt about during the festival, were the terrorist attacks and the war between the USA and Afhganistan, in which all the countries of the NATO had to get involved by sending military forces, and in which, many of them, also suffered some attacks.

Finally, as a third reason to my opinion, I think that tension and risks of conflict and economic problems can occur not only with other countries, but also among the member regions. This is due to presidents with different opinions, or, sadly, that want to take all the power and to rule the other countries. And I know that the festival is not about giving political opinions, but a really current and perfect example of this reason is Donald Trump. Trump have blamed the NATO of not sending military forces during the war of Afhganistan, has increased tariffs to many of the nations of the NATO, and also wants to buy Greenland, territory belonging to Denmark, a NATO member. We could talk more about Donald Trump, but with these cases, it is sufficient to know that the NATO countries have many opinions against this president's ones.

So, as result, I think that tension between alliances can occur due to the conflicts between other countries, the obligatory aid between countries, or due to certain presidents, their power and opinions. Am I going to change my opinion? Of course, I wish in a future alliances supported and collaborated more, following the real rules and aims of the organizations; by this way, there would be less tension, and I am sure that the world would be a better place for everyone. However, to do this, we have to collaborate with each of us, despite we are not countries' governments, but countries' voices. Forming an alliance to protect the good purpose of the other alliances? It sounds good, don't you think so? But first, to make a change in the way alliances are managed and the way everybody want, we also have to change.
