Is it safer for a country to have many different allies or to rely on one very powerful relationship?

I think that it is safer for a country to avoid having one big ally and instead have multiple allies for several reasons.

First, we have the USSR and North Korea. In the 1980s, the USSR was on the verge of collapsing, and North Korea, at the time, was sponsored by the USSR. The entire economy was built on that sponsor from the big, powerful nation. When the USSR collapsed, the entire economy collapsed. This is how poor North Korea came to be. Some people might say that the deal might be fake, but it is actually true. This shows that you should not rely on one big ally and should rely on multiple allies rather than one strong one. Even though today, North Korea is allied with China, it is still poor. Historically, it has some other allies, but they are not as strong as China and Russia (Used to be USSR).

Next, a country should have allies because a big powerful country could be pushy and you would have no support. The lesson says that Mr. Trump wants to control Greenland (Denmark territory) to protect it from China and Russia. Denmark and other allies said no and sent troops to Greenland to show what they mean by not letting Trump take it. This proves that having multiple allies is better even to the most powerful country in the world.

Then, 9/11 hit. On September 11th, the USA was attacked by a terrorist organization. During this time, the US was in NATO and article 5 was activated. All countries in NATO responded and attacked Afghanistan, which was where they believed the mastermind was. The USA would have struggled more without NATO allies. The USA benefited from the organization and proved that having strong allies is better than one big ally.

In conclusion, all allies should be depending on multiple allies instead of having one big ally. Not only is it a good political move, but it ensures you are backed up by many allies.
