Can technology make sports more equal, or does it only widen the gap between competitors?

Some people think that tech can help in certain sports but others think that the use of technology can ruin competitive sports.

The Halo is a titanium safety item that every F1 and F2 car needs for safety. It was designed to hold the weight of a double decker London bus. In F1 Lewis Hamilton was almost hit by debris in the 2025 US Grand Prix but the debris reflected off the Halo and went flying over Hamilton’s head. If Hamilton didn’t have Halo on his car, he would have hit his head very hard because he was going at 200m/h. Lots of people died before this was introduced in F1 such as Henry Surtees (who died in 2009), Jules Bianchi (died in 2014). With these fatalities we can see how halo has had a big impact on this sport and wonder what could have happened without it.

Although people complain about not being able to see the F1 and F2 drivers because of the halo technology blocking their view, I think the Halo is a good addition to both of the racing sports.

Does football a similar thing?

Football adopted VAR (video assistance referee) to catch things the human referee didn’t see. It also makes sure you have given a yellow or red card to the correct person. Sometimes VAR can go wrong. Some examples of this are:

1.(Spain v Germany) an incident occurred when Musiala shot the ball it reflected off Cucurella’s arm but the penalty wasn’t given. The Spanish players complained, Germany won the match.

(Man United v Everton) Bruno Fernandes shot the ball and reflected off an Everton defender. When the match was finished the players were called back onto the pitch just to find out it was a VAR check. After the check Man United was given the penalty and scored a goal.

In my opinion football should continue to use VAR because it leads to accuracy and fairness, for example, Real Madrid have the most goals disallowed because of VAR and without that technology this wouldn't have happened.

Overall, I think technology should be used in sports if it is going to be used fairly and accurately. We should be able to control how much technology is being used and make sure that it doesn't widen the gap in competitive sports.
