The Winter Games - Standpoint image 5

I believe that technology does not make sports more equal and could widen the gap between competitors. Someone who disagrees might think that technology does not guarantee success and still take skills to win. But, in my opinion, technology may does not guarantee a win, but it could boost the chances of you winning. Winter games is already quite unfair because of the difference in fundings for each countries. We can take the example from this year men winter olympics, where the favorite to win lost, and someone unexpected won. Many people speculated that the reason that Ilia Malinin, who is the most expected to win the olympics, suddenly fall after an attempted quadrupel axel was because of the peer presure and that the ice was too soft, and he landed in eighth place overall. Instead, someone unexpected won, which is Mikhail Shaidorov. I watched some of his interviews, where he always practice in the mall's ice rink, because of the lack of ice rinks in kazakhstan. That may be the reason that he could skate clean and won the olympics.

Now, let's use this example for our topic for today. I believe that in a competition, people competiting should have the same gear, technology, equipment, etc. So, if a person use a more advanced technology than the others in a competition, it is unfair. It would not make that person win instantly, but it would boost the chances of that person winning. Competitions, especially winter games are already imbalanced because of the difference of fundings. So, in conclusion, I believe that technology do widen the gap between competitors, and the solution is to have the competitors to have the same equipment and technology.
