Does the use of technology make new world records less impressive than those of the past?

The Winter Games - Standpoint image 3

The Winter Games are all about human skill, courage, and pushing ourselves to the limit. Today, technology plays a bigger role than ever. Better skis, faster suits, and carefully designed tracks help athletes go farther, faster, and more precisely than ever before. But these are just tools they don’t do the work for the athlete. The training, focus, and determination behind every performance are still completely human.

Some people argue that because of technology, modern records aren’t as impressive as those from the past. I don’t think that’s true. Even with the best gear, athletes spend years perfecting their technique, making split-second decisions, and pushing their bodies to extremes. Technology can enhance performance, but it can’t replace talent, strategy, or the courage it takes to compete at the highest level. Every medal and record is still the result of hard work, skill, and mental toughness.

In many ways, competing today may be even harder. The level of competition is higher, the differences are smaller, and every advantage counts. Breaking a world record now requires not only skill but also the ability to use technology effectively. Technology changes the way greatness is achieved, but it doesn’t take away from the human effort behind it. That combination of heart, talent, and determination is what makes the Winter Games truly remar kable.
