Standpoints: how to give feedback
Standpoints | This is for everyone
A Standpoint is someone’s final, evidence-based opinion.
Good feedback helps them improve their thinking and writing.
When you comment on someone’s Standpoint:
-
Start with something positive.
What did they do well?
-
Be specific.
Mention a sentence, example or argument that you thought was good.
-
Suggest one improvement.
-
Stay respectful, even if you disagree.
You could use these sentence starters:
- One strength of your Standpoint is…
- I found your example about… convincing because…
- One question I still have is…
- You could make this even stronger by…
Helpful feedback focuses on ideas, evidence and clarity, not the person. Before you post, ask yourself “would this feedback help me improve if I received it?”
