About this lesson

2025 has been a year of complex and fast-moving news. From global tariffs and cyber-security threats to the Kashmir conflict and the election of a new pope, these stories have shaped politics, economies and everyday life around the world.

But which stories mattered most to young people? And how can we tell what makes a news event truly significant?

Use this lesson to help students:

  • Reflect on the local and global news stories that shaped 2025
  • Share and explain their opinions on which issues mattered most
  • Practise listening to, questioning and responding to different perspectives
