The 24-hour news cycle makes it hard to switch off from the news. But instead of watching passively or blindly scrolling through a newsfeed, how do you "actively" watch and engage with what you see? Our active viewer poster shares the steps your students can take.
How to use this resource with your students:
- Familiarise students with the poster so that it becomes a habit for them to follow these steps when they read or watch the news
- Get students to choose a clip of a news story that interest them. Encourage students to work in pairs, where one guides the other through the steps on the sheet
- Share the poster with parents/guardians and ask them to watch the news with their child and then discuss it using the prompts
