It can be hard to ensure everyone in the classroom has their voice heard in every lesson. It can also feel like some students dominate discussions and leave little room for their peers. Use these tokens in any lesson to help give everyone in the class an equal voice.
How to use this resource with your students:
- Give each student one token each – if they want to share an idea, they'll need to "spend" their token. Everyone should be encouraged to use their token by the end of the lesson.
- Give more vocal/confident students a limited number of tokens. Tell them they are only allowed to contribute that number of times, so they must think carefully before they "spend" their token.
- Award tokens for contributions during a debate or discussion, based on quality not quantity. Better still, let students award the tokens to each other when they hear great points.
