Competition #2
26 January 2026
Making connections through creative thinking
Welcome to this week’s competition. Every Monday we’ll open a new competition, and the winners will be announced on Friday. If you win, you’ll get three stars and your entry will be pinned to the top of the discussion.
This week, you’ve explored how technology is used in sport at events like the Winter Games. Now we want you to think less about how the technology works — and more about how it affects behaviour, sportsmanship and the spirit of competition.
Choose one example of technology from the Winter Games (such as equipment, officiating or safety technology).
To enter the competition
- Explain how this technology changes the way athletes behave or compete
- Describe how it might affect sportsmanship, such as respect for rules, officials or opponents
You may want to structure your answer like this:
One way [name the technology] affects sport is [how it changes behaviour or decisions]. This can influence sportsmanship because [your explanation]. Athletes, fans or organisers might view this technology differently because [different perspectives]. This matters because it links to [a bigger issue] in sport.
Write up to 100 words. Winners will be announced at the end of the week.

I think that the technology affects athletes’ performance as it can be used to improve their skills which I think is cheating because you’re meant to use your strengths and not alter it.
Things that technology alter and change:
1. Performance and skills
2. Ability to overtake others
3. Make them faster or jump higher
4. It also changes everyone’s view and perspective on the player.
Hi charming_television. I'm interested in your thoughts on cheating - is the 'cheating' about the technology itself, or is it about the unfair access to it? i.e. if every athlete had the exact same technology, would it still feel like cheating to you?"
I'm not sure about this because... IT gives both cheating and unfair access to technology
I think it changes the way you do the sport if your not very good at running then you use technology then your become better I think it can change how people act they could say that there better than others
Interesting point - you are touching on the psychology of sports—not just how fast someone runs, but how it affects their ego and their character. Could there be any positive effects of them feeling that they were better at running?
One way the use of cars in a race affects sports because it causes accident this can influence sportsmanship because in a normal race the one in which we use our physical strength there are less accident and cheating but in formula 1 or car racing because of greediness people use the advanced sport technology to cheat and cause a crash with another race car and therefore end up calling it an accident so therefore
sports technology been used in race such as cars causes a higher rate of accident or cheating
