The Burnet News Club Awards Ceremony 2021
01 July 2021 - 01 July 2021On July 1st, we held our eighth annual Burnet News Club Awards Ceremony and for the second time (and hopefully for the last time!) we hosted it online.
We took the festivities online and hosted a virtual ceremony instead with students, teachers and parents invited to follow proceedings from wherever they were. Many Burnet News Clubs gathered stayed after-school and gathered in their classrooms. We had more awards than ever with categories honouring work, students, teachers, schools and volunteers!
This academic year, students have explored topics ranging from the American election to protest, to cancel culture. We also welcomed over 100 new schools to join the Burnet News Club in our Global Conversation between May and June.
You can watch the highlights of the awards ceremony below!
I am in awe of what teachers and students accomplish in Burnet News Club schools every year, but particularly this year. We know the challenges that you face every day this year just to keep the learning happening and in the face of that, you have continued to have thoughtful, lively, creative and well-reasoned discussions about the issues that are changing our world.

We couldn't be with Burnet News Club schools in person for our awards ceremony this year, but we asked teachers to throw their students a party! We loved this brilliant pic sent in by Michael Faraday School, winner of the Alastair Burnet Award!🎉 pic.twitter.com/ajCVywjR6R
