Teacher webinar: building media literacy in the classroom
10 June 2025
Tuesday June 10th, 4:30pm - 5:30pm (BST)
Suitable for teachers of 10-16-year-olds
The Curriculum and Assessment Review Interim Report for England flagged media literacy and broadening perspectives as focus areas, acknowledging the National Curriculum’s responsibility in supporting civil society and cohesion. This is more pressing than ever at a time when the world has never felt so polarised.
Teachers increasingly feel that schools should provide safe spaces for children to discuss sensitive and complex topics and to evaluate the news they are exposed to. But teachers also say they feel ill-equipped to confidently bring these discussions into the classroom and to safely support children to share their own perspectives as well as to engage with viewpoints different from their own.
Join this webinar to build your confidence in tackling difficult topics in your classrooms and to foster open-minded and media-literate critical thinkers.
The webinar will:
- Give practical tips for building media literacy and tackling misinformation
- Detail how to support open-minded discussions on divisive issues
- Share the pedagogies behind oracy-focused classroom activities on current affairs
