If prisons aren't fit for purpose, then prisoners should be set free

INTRODUCTION

I will be sharing my standpoint on prisons. This is an important topic because on January 7th 2024,Jose Adolfo Marcias Villamar, also known as Fito (notorious drug gang leader) escaped from the La Regional prison in Ecuador.Two prison guards are believed to have helped him escape. We believe he was informed of this, so made his escape earlier than he planned. In the prison, prisoners had a lot of luxury, such as being allowed phones and weapons.

FOR

Some people might agree with this statement because if prisons are not useful, why should the prisoners stay there anyway? Inadequate prisons should not even still be there to be a waste of space and money.If a prison is substandard, it should be knocked down.

AGAINST

Alternatively, some people might think prisoners should not be set free. They should be shipped to a prison that is more secure because if a murderer is let out of prison, they might start murdering people again because they haven’t learnt that it is wrong to kill people.

MY OPINION

In my opinion, if prisons are not suitable or do not fulfil the rules of prisons, prisoners in them should be sent to prisons that will teach them how to behave and perhaps even allow them to live peacefully in their normal homes in society. People should be allowed to live how they want to so I believe this is the best choice for them. They should be free and happy.“If prisons aren’t fit for purpose, then prisoners should be set free”
