With just a tweet, he can change millions of minds. In January, Elon Musk published a tweet talking about his negative opinion about a refugee charity. Since then, the organization has received lots of hateful comments.This demonstrates the immense influence he has, capable not only of controlling the economic market, but also people’s opinions, criteria and values. Lots of people follow his example, often without realizing that his ideals are not the only valid ones.
But Musk’s influence doesn’t stop there. He has also participated in a live stream with the candidate of one of the parties of the German elections, supporting his ideals and proposals. Although this upset European Union leaders, his opinion had been given, and a lot of people could have been influenced by it.
Elon Musk is aware of the power he holds, and he seems to enjoy manipulating public opinions. However there are still some followers of him that don’t realize how much harm he can do to society. Our world can not depend on one person’s opinion or ideas. We should not allow wealth, fame, or social media to determine our perspectives. Instead we must improve critical thinking, accept multiple points of view, and create our own opinions. That is the only way society can move forward.
