How Women in Space Inspire Me

Written standpoint on women in space

As I think about women in space, their exploration, and their great impact, I am filled with awe, wonder, determination, and aspiration. The powerful energies and courage these women have shown have not only shattered glass ceilings just by going to space, but also opened ways for future generations of women to make their marks.

Their outstanding victories have left me with a renewed sense of purpose and ambition, nudging me to say I would like to make a difference in the lives of children and contribute significantly to mankind. This, I hope to do by working hard and becoming a paediatrician.

I have seen that with dedication, hard work, and perseverance, I too can achieve my dreams. I have also learnt this by reading articles, watching, and listening to videos of how these women defied conventions and pushed boundaries.

To start this journey, I have come to realise and to recognize the importance of having a good foundation. I believe that by studying hard, asking questions when I do not understand, seeking guidance and advice from mentors and betters, and ultimately completing all the tasks assigned to me with diligence and attention to detail while putting the value of discipline and responsibility will be the foundation and secret to achieving goals.

One person I know who might not agree with me is psychologist and author Dr. Steven Pinker, he argued that the basic differences in interests and affinities between men and women may be overlooked by the attention on gender equality in STEM fields.

He further stated that this could lead to unrealistic expectations and undue pressure on women to pursue careers in fields that may not align with their natural inclinations.

While I appreciate Dr. Pinker's views, I strongly believe that women's contributions to humanity are significant and have gone a long way. The phrase "one small step for women, one big leap for humankind" speaks deeply to me. It connotes the impactful power and the overwhelming effect their contributions can have on society.

In conclusion, as I look at the women who have come before me, I draw strength from them and I make bold to say I will make my mark, I will be part of a new generation of women who will shape the future, I will also leave a legacy that generations of women after me can also draw inspiration from.
