Stereotypes, a problem to solve.

Written standpoint on women in space

My main question is, what is the most difficult problem to solve? From my point of view, they are all very difficult, but for me, stereotypes stand out. Honestly, this is a problem that has been fought for many years to change, little by little it has been improving but there is still lots of things to change. Many times we don't even think about stereotypes, they are simply so established in our heads that we don't realize when we apply them because society has always educated us that way. They are small unwritten rules that we have in our heads and they don't let us see behind them. We have to try to ensure that both boys and girls have the same opportunities without being judged by what "the majority" of our gender is supposed to be like.

Some examples that I would like to give are how colors influence boys and girls, especially in small children. Pink is usually associated with girls and blue with boys. But as colors are associated, toys also, it seems that girls can only use dolls and boys cars or dinosaurs. Another example is how the personality of boys and girls varies depending on many of the stereotypes that in this case can be generated by many of the films that are offered to society. We can see how girls have a calmer personality, they usually take care of small children, they do not make many decisions, and a man usually has to save them. On the other hand, boys have a stronger personality, they make decisions, they are brave and they have to protect the girl, without being afraid of anything or anyone. This is slowly changing and we can see how in the new films the girls no longer need anyone to save them and how boys can also be afraid of things. Morover, another example is how stereotypes also change according to cultures and countries. Probably the stereotypes in my country, Spain, will not be the same as in countries in Asia, Africa or America, for example. I think it would be interesting to compare and also see the things in common that we have between different countries, referring to stereotypes. Many countries still think that women have to stay at home doing housework and taking care of the children while men work and bring home the money. I could give many other examples, but to finish I will give the example of physical stereotypes. There are very marked standards for man and woman and if you do not follow them, many times in different situations there are people who discriminate others. And how this affects the fact that there are still people who think that, because of their physical condition, there are women who cannot do certain jobs.

I would like to give a example of how to change this. A child is not born knowing what is right for him and what is not, it is simply what he sees, what he hears and the education he receives. If from a young age both, families (which have an important role here) and schools teach them that we are all equal and everything is based on what each person likes.

In conclusion, it is a problem that, although it is slowly changing, we still have a lot to improve for future generations by trying to propose solutions, so why not do it?
