Should a country’s first responsibility be to help its own citizens or to help people in need around the world?

International aid - Standpoint image 5

I believe countries should focus on their own citizens first and in doing so they could save a lot of money. If it's one of the richer countries focusing on their own citizens they should just do both compared to other countries. The only other reason I see to support in aid is if you’re one of the smaller countries and you have the budget to support in aid and need allies to have more power and resources. The reason I chose to believe this is, as Corbin Duncan said, “The donor country immensely from military aid. One recent example of this is the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in which the American government gave the ukrainian government billions of dollars of Aid in the form of artillery shelves, drones, and other equipment. In fact, almost all of those weapons were manufactured in American Factories by American workers, And so those billions of dollars in military Aid were an investment in America’s economy.” This quote proves that if you have the budget to aid other countries you could benefit off of aiding other countries.
