Should a country’s first responsibility be to help its own citizens or to help people in need around the world?

I think it is a country’s first responsibility to help its own citizens before helping others. There are three main reasons for this.
The first reason is that a country must ensure its national stability. If a country becomes unstable because it gives too much aid to other countries before taking care of its own problems, it may lose the resources needed to provide meaningful and longlasting help. In the worst case it could even become a country that needs aid itsself because it couln't ensure its own wellbeing.
The second reason is that it is the government’s duty to protect its citizens. Political leaders are elected by the people because citizens trust them to make decisions that benefit their country. Therefore, governments should prioritize the needs and wellbeing of the population that elected them.
The third reason is that most financial aid comes from tax money paid by citizens. People expect their taxes to be used in ways that improve their lives, such as funding healthcare, education, and infrastructure. If the government spends too much of this money on others instead of its own problems, it could lead to protests, uprisings, and political instability.
Someone who disagrees might argue that another country could be in a more urgent situation and might need help immediately. However, it is still the government’s responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of its own country first. In addition, there are usually other stable countries that can provide emergency support.
