If all ages are influenced by misinformation, should there be any age limits on voting?

Lowering the voting age - Standpoint image

A lot of people believe that if all ages are influenced by misinformation, there should not be any limits for the voting age. But that's not completely true.

First of all, if there weren't any voting limits, even babies who can't speak would be entitled to vote and that would not be fair. That's because in effect it would be the parents voting, which would mean that people who have babies or young children would be entitled to two votes, rather than one, as opposed to people with no children or older children, who would only have one vote.

Secondly, it is true that all age categories are influenced by misinformation, but lowering the voting age wouldn't be a rational solution. It would just create more chaos. Young adults and teens are most of the time fooled by what they see on social media on different platforms and are very easily influenced by what they hear from their parents or their friends.

On the other hand, old people are outwit and easily manipulated by fake news which promise things that are not possible and by fake AI videos, which begs the question whether we should have an upper limit as well, not just a lower one. But middle-aged people are much harder to be manipulated because of the experience in voting and knowledge of politics.

In conclusion, if there were no limits to the voting age, democracy would become as chaotic as capitalism.
